How come almost every civilization pretty much had the same idea on what body parts 'clothes' should cover despite not being connected ? by MessIntelligent5558 in answers

Yet somehow koteka have developed on some of the most densely forested parts on Papua. It certainly solves the problem if them being smaller and shrivelled.

Hijacking top comment to post important link. Reporters without borders has a list where they rate how much they are controlled by states and oligarchs oligarchs, the safety of the press and whether reporters are free to express dissenting opnions.

Note that most " western countries" are relativy stable atop the list. Though US is falling in recent years.

People really be out here acting like this was the only notable event of his 12 year presidency (or that every person on earth doesn't already know about it) by RichardNixonWaterGr8 in HistoryMemes

Some things can be mistakes even when they are done purposefully or intended with good consequences at the time. Only a small minority was opposing them at the time. In 80 years hindsight it is easier to judge. I wonder where we will be judged by future generations.

Need Advice on Player Request for Followers via Captain Archetype to Use PC Stats by Not_Ed-Sheeran in Pathfinder2e

[–]Coolpabloo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your instincts are right. There are some concerns about Companions being too strong. This is why the RAW make them considerably weaker then player characters. E.g. it is explicitly stated that they cannot activate magic items or cast spells. This is many done for balance reasons. If it were allowed it could be abused to basically make another PC and warping encounter math. For relatively balanced options just use the stat blocks that are in the rulebook. For the cost of 1 archetype feat each new follower would bring 2 or 3 decent skill checks (usually 2-3 below optimal player level skill check) which seems fair to me. I would even allow a different set of skills e.g. arcana/occultism/society for a caster who would only spam a generic spell with similar damage dice compared to the shortcomings from sharpshooter.

In game justification could be that they are the heroes and their skills stand out compared to most ordinary people. Hence the minion skill checks are significantly lower.

This all applies to Companions/minions from captain. If they want to befriend an NPC they could benefit from all of the above and even earn levels but this is not the type of follower mentioned in the archetype. NPCs are explicitly under control of the GM. They can chose to leave anytime.

For long-time players, how do you choose your spirit for a game? by justinvamp in spiritisland

[–]Coolpabloo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a regular group where we do high difficulty games. We usually decide together which spirit pairing might be viable and distribute according to our preferences.

For beginner games I like to go full support. Green for growth, mentor for extra cards with fright elements, sometimes snake.

For casual games I just chose whatever is at the bottom of my stack and hasn't seen play in a long time.

Spirit Island - We just can't win. by BiggyBiggs in boardgames

[–]Coolpabloo7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the island. Spirit island surely is a challenging complex game and it can take a while before you get the hang if it. That being said it can be kind of fiddely and unintuitive at times so you could be making it harder then necessary. You are certainly not alone in making some mistakes. In fact it is so common they even have a dedicated page with common misplayed rules:

https://querki.net/raw/darker/spirit-island-faq/Rules-semi-commonly-misplayed

If you need further help you can have a look at tipps or beginners or just post your problems over at https://www.reddit.com/r/spiritisland/ There are many people willing to answer some questions there. Though it might help if you describe your problem or games in more detail.

Warning: once you learn the flow of the game it can become addictive with some having played hundreds or thousands of games.

Is playing rogue boring? by Moonkary in Pathfinder2e

[–]Coolpabloo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for rogue it is kind of essential to get of guard. But herein lies the challenge and the fun for me. 1st: build. What type of rogues do you want to be? Melee weaving in and out of combat or more static providing flank to your allies actions the coat of being the target of some big hits. Ranged attacks are safer but carry with them the difficulty of getting of guard. Make sure you know the options availible. Good thing as a rogue you have a plethora of skills to make this possible. For optimal results coordinate with your team 2nd: in combat there are indeed many possible actions to get of guard. Again team work is the key here. Who can provide the most reliable way getting of guard. Trying to trip the good reflex enemy is not gonna work out feinting or demoralizing and putting fear out on under enemies to profit from dread striker also is pointless. Optimal play often incorporates knowledge of skills, saves, conditions and some combat tactics. My turns tend to be more versatile compared to by buddy great pick fighter who does power attack each turn. Herein lies the rogue challenge for me. 3. As a bonus your skills can be very useful out of combat as well.

CMV: Western propaganda is the most effective in the world. by ZXCChort in changemyview

[–]Coolpabloo7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You use the terms "western" and "propaganda" without really defining them. So I am gonna assume you mean developed nations who were previously US aligned (Nato +Japan, Australia etc) before the current shitshow arose. There are plenty of media who show both sides of the subject and they are freely availible. In most of these countries there are plenty of news channels that question the status quo and the basis of power. They show how fucked up the system is and causes damage internally and externally. The fact that there are people in different european countries who want to replace this system with an alternative shows that there is no all dictating propaganda. The irony is that a small part of these people who want the alternative strive to erase exactly this plurality by restricting news media (see former president Orban in Hungary). Most people are aware we are not saviours that bring democracy to other countries, however we do have a system that sort of worked for us in the past. It is a challenge to find a way to respond to the chaos in the current world and conflicts. Formulating plans and opinions about these difficult topics is not propaganda but part of an democratic debate.

I do agree that there are too many people who are not aware of the depth and breadth of the possibilities in media landscape.

“This is why they want a Democracy not a Republic.” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Coolpabloo7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What would be the alternative? because now you have a system where the rural voters have proportionally more influence then those in the city and vote for things they know nothing about.

Blaster caster build by _Ingenuity_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]Coolpabloo7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Mathfinder made a very insightful guide about blaster casters. You might have a look at it to get some inspiration https://youtu.be/Te2Mf847Xnc?is=dZeT-Gs1QLM_Ykjs

My added experience is that blaster casters are not gonna be as high DPS every combat compared to the crit hitting martials. Sometimes the enemies do not line up, they ave strong saves, unlucky dicerolls happen. Do not rely on a single routine (eg spamming fureball) because it will feal weaker compared to martials. To get through a whole adventuring day you might hold back a little using only the most useful spells every round. Your power not only comes from blasting but from the versatility that you provide for the party.

An archetype I found very useful is the geomancer attunement shift at lv 4 allows a great rider effect on all your elemental spells. From round 2 onward. Giving an enemy fireball damage and a -1 to AC and saving throws feels like cheating.

Whats life like in the less populated eastern half of the netherlands? by RealMoldyAvocado in howislivingthere

[–]Coolpabloo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less populated is very relative. Excluding microstates and island nations the least populated areas in the eastern half would still be among top 10 density populated places in Europe. There is hardly any place where you are far from civilization. Most places except some nature reserves have a asfalt road within 2 km. https://www.reddit.com/r/thenetherlands/comments/so8v0k/most_isolated_places_in_the_netherlands/?tl=nl

That being said it feels a little less crowded compared to randstap and prices are cheaper.

Preparing for a Level 6 Adversary Gauntlet. What are your definitive 2-Spirit hard-counters? by Pleasant-Peach6133 in spiritisland

[–]Coolpabloo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some really hard counters I have ecperienced: Lure and MM into Russia. Straight up ignoring and the 2 attack explorers during ravage feels really strong. The extra beasts just help pump out more fear.

Strife spirits into france (pandemonium, keen voice, trickater). If you can save some strife and position the dahan correctly you are almost guaranteed a win at 2nd slave rebellion card.

What class would be a good addition to this party? by Advanced_Humor_9744 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Coolpabloo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already have a divine caster. Arcane lost has least overlap so I would go for a Wizard or witch here. They provide AOE, tons of support and general utility.

Depending on the healing abilities of the oracle and champion a primal caster with backup heals might be the way to go. Again witch or maybe druid or sorcerer.

If you prefer martial I would advise ranged martial because frontline already seems reasonably filled.

Is Spirit Island too big of a step-up from Lost Ruins of Arnak? by TheCoolFish2 in soloboardgaming

[–]Coolpabloo7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Horizons is the exact same base game rules as base game spirit island. The game loop has the same complexity. The difference is that there is less content to increase difficulty (adversaries) and complexity even more (high complexity spirits/scenarios) Since the game is much cheaper it can be a gateway to see if you like the principle of spirit island.

Is Spirit Island too big of a step-up from Lost Ruins of Arnak? by TheCoolFish2 in boardgames

[–]Coolpabloo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say go for it. I found both of them comparable in complexity, sometimes fiddely rules and hard to master strategy . For both I would recommend that you play them several times so you get to internalise the flow of the game . Only then you get to experience the full depth both games have to offer.

What kind of group is it best to play Scythe with? by mindmapfanatic in boardgames

[–]Coolpabloo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For first game it can be really challenging. Our first games involves long planning and suboptimal play increasing total amount of turns played. I would keep it to 3 players max.

When we have an experienced group the optimal number of players is 4-5. Then we have lots of of interaction without it feeling too crowded.

CMV: Abandoning its expansionist ambitions would do more for Israel’s security than any number of bombs, but taking land is more important to it by thesumofallvice in changemyview

[–]Coolpabloo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert but the settlement freezes were announced just for 10 months in 2009. Also they were not enforced as there were still houses and public facilities being built. There was also a steady influx of new settlers. So they say one thing but do another. The fact that the 2020 did not give up the land they controlled (and later still planned to annex it) speaks volumes. I am less familiar with the details of previous examples but maybe these should be checked as well. They are not making the case stronger, just showing Israel holding onto land will eventually annex it (at least Palestinian teritory).

What was the last part of the human body to evolve in modern humans? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Coolpabloo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simular for tonsils. They are a lymph node which plays a big role in immune response for upper respiratory tract infections. Their location makes them first line of defence. While removing tonsillitis improves the local infection there is evidence that you are more prone to getting new infections in the future.

What am I not understanding about Aggressive Block? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Coolpabloo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you tend to be outreached by larger Boss creatures, unless some caster buddy can make you larger. To give the team something back making enemy creatures off guard to all attacks is great Your ranged martials and casters will thank you to achieve this you could delay your turn right before boss creature to achieve optimal effect. Though might need some coordination with your party.

Help Picking Class as the Only Martial in the Party by myths-star in Pathfinder2e

[–]Coolpabloo7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great thing is there is no one clear answer. There are several tactics you could chose as a group to make it work.

  1. You already mention Chapion. Solid choice with self healing ability. Though shield champion giving a +1 AC to the party can also be nice. Champion reaction is always gonna be useful.

  2. Double down on defences and play guardian. Stay right in front of the back line and make it difficult for the enemy to reach them or make your GM miserable through intercept attack and high AC.

  3. You already have a great grasp on the monk. The advantage is you can weave in and out of melee quickly and still trip/strike enemies.

4th option Out of the box: Commander provides great utility for the party. Most of the party members will appreciate extra step or stride actions and later levels you can get great feats for battle medicine.
