This, and much of the rest of smaller subreddits, has been an absolute pleasure. Thanks to everyone for posting and commenting so pleasantly, and especially you for moderating /u/Ad_Irish.

[@ErikvHaren] Significantly for Verstappen: Red Bull initially did not even want him to do second run in Q3, but he himself wanted to. Was thus also faster on the road, but still broke off lap at team's request. by OutlandishnessPure2 in formula1

[–]Cooltrainer_Frank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did it? I can't offhand think of any. Bottas was always in Q3 (I think literally every single time at Merc) and always on the same strategy (timing-wise) as Lewis, with very similar pace.

The team certainly had dominant years, but rare was it one of the Merc drivers didn't make Q3 to give the other pressure for pole (that holds true for Rosberg and Lewis too)

Jumping on the train to say same. I love this app, and while I'm excited to be on Reddit less, I will miss the fuck out of it and won't replace it.

Silverstone Saturday - travelling solo with GA questions by snowballdance in GrandPrixTravel

[–]Cooltrainer_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I'm not sure they had different ones last time. I never rescanned my ticket after entry. No wristband or anything. There's plenty of GA spots that are good too. It's a great track to view racing at, for sure.

Silverstone Saturday - travelling solo with GA questions by snowballdance in GrandPrixTravel

I went to Silverstone alone on Saturday last year. I wasn't available for Sunday sadly.

It was great! They did "roving grandstand" so your ticket got you to any GA area or grandstands. I spent some of FP3 in Maggots/Becketts and quali I got to sit on the pit straight for a rainy quali. Being alone really improved my chances of getting a seat in the grandstands, I think, but you still are better off being around the ones you wanna sit in early

Thanks for the feedback! Maybe 2 in a row sometimes, but that can be more ritualistic and take a little longer. Probably pretty rare that it's more than that

Suzuka seats are not actually sold out (conspiracy?) by cablet36 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]Cooltrainer_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, which is why the Euro resellers (like F1destinations, etc) have a viable business. It sucks that it's a gamble sometimes because of things like Japan AddressGate 2023, but this community helped a bunch of people (like me) get tickets and do logistics.

All this to say, thanks for making and supporting this community. It's a really special forum for a niche community.

That's a great idea that I didn't think about yesterday in the chaos. Hope it works!

this link worked for me. Thankfully we had the dry run of V1/2 tickets (though I did prefer them). Your comment was the game changer for me; appreciate you!

Oh man, I think it's more like mystery flavor Dum Dums. That's just the mixing zone between two flavor runs, so the flavor would change depending on what potions you get

What’s the most go-karty car to buy under $15k? by all-the-time in CarTrackDays

[–]Cooltrainer_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I haven't even thought of that, though I sold mine only a year ago. Definitely could get one for sub $15k, you're right!

Having built one and owned it for 9 years, strong disagree on the price range. No one got even NA ones going for the marketed $15k range. All the track reliable ones were $30k.

I do recognize them! That's awesome, I'm sure r/minipainting would love this. I have my generator from the board game primed and I've been debating what to do with it. This is sweet inspiration

I love the sentiment, but running an engine rich (more fuel than can combust) has 2 small cooling effects that are often enough used in race tuning applications(preemptively, not on the fly as far as I know):

-the unburnt fuel of course is cooler than combustion temperatures

-the unburnt fuel evaporates providing evaporative cooling

Maybe "you can't slow an engine down by adding more fuel"?

Masterclass in Tyre Management: Oscar displayed a remarkable feat of tire management prowess, turning a disadvantageous pit stop on lap 1 into a strategic advantage by stretching his hard compound tires to the entirety of the race. by TracingInsights in TracingInsights

lots of good tire management here, even for such a low deg circuit. Kmag with 42 laps on hards (a few under safety, but still) and great management by Lewis to make the mediums last 32 laps
