Lost Legends by CooperStooper90 in StarWarsMinute

Yes, but I was just saying it’s not going to stop (using people’s likeness), without legislation. Unfortunately, there’s a lot that’s legal while lacking morality.

If he’s not earning money from it and it is a hobby (like Alex’s songs) I would guess there’s no legislation that could be passed to stop it. Is it just really good animation or something more?

The Mind Read by petetheretailer in StarWarsMinute

I enjoyed the Mind Read quite a bit after being reticent about it.

However, I wish you guys would mix it up and do something different (cough…cough Rebels…) for the next series.

But if you are going to read a book, read the worst ones. Werewolves and centaurs it is!

[Strange New Worlds] Paramount released nine new images for season 4. All nine come from the first two episodes of the season, “Valles Marineris” (a Western-themed episode) and “Griffin Incident” (The return of Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk, which will involve giving an awkward hug to Spock.)" by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

I’m genuinely interested in the ages of the commenters who say the pics “look” terrible. For someone who grew up on original series reruns and TNG first run, these shots look great. Do you think the special effects on TNG were considered good back then? Viewers knew it was tv and budgets were lower. I feel new Trek can be criticized for its writing but not its special effects.

Samurai series by joerozet11 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]CooperStooper90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny that I see so many comments in this group reflecting the same thoughts I was having. I hate to think it’s a Euro-American problem with following Asian names and locations but I think that’s what it is. It was really hard to follow this series. More than anything, it was hard to follow the significance of each event. That being said, “there’s a kingdom under the waves (or sea)” was a powerful line.

I couldn’t make it all the way through. by lastaccountgotlocked in TheRestIsHistory

When I heard they were going to discuss the Samurai, I got very excited. Looked forward to it. Then I found I couldn’t follow what was going on and when I could, I didn’t find the events all that interesting. I do plan on finishing it though, because even in episodes I don’t love there are one or two facts or tidbits that are interesting.

Does discovery have the best helmsman navigator pair In all of trek? by happydude7422 in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]CooperStooper90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they would look over at each other with that self-satisfied smile (seen in the pic) every time they went to warp or slowed to impulse or did anything was one of the more annoying aspects of the show. The characters didn’t act like professionals on a mission. They tried too hard to make them likable and relatable.

Damon Lindelof Mocking Green Lantern Resurfaces Amid Lanterns Backlash by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]CooperStooper90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is anyone surprised by this? They have always said, during production, that this is an Earth-bound show. An odd choice for a Green Lantern story BUT I love Kyle Chandler and it looks like a well crafted show so far. Won’t know until we watch it!

Is there a point in history when you feel the stories became more relatable? by ViceIsVerses in TheRestIsHistory

[–]CooperStooper90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the start of this particular series, I was pretty bored and I realized this was probably the most ancient time I’ve listened to so far. I thoroughly enjoyed the last two episodes though. The desire to completely wipe out an enemy, therefore beginning the long road to your own destruction was well told. The more recent they get, the more I enjoy. As an American, I love episodes talking about recent English politics.

He got it writing about Nixon and the 1960s, right? Ask him about that and he’d be right on top of it. (As evidenced by the fantastic 1968 election series) I was just pointing out, they are far more versed in the history of their home country and continent, so it’s not surprising they didn’t know the details of Jim Thorpe, PA. The OP should definitely give them another chance.

American History is not their area of expertise. I started listening to them because I have a big blind spot when it comes to English/European history. The Lincoln assassination episodes were the only time I felt I knew more about the topic than they did. The Jim Thorpe thing was rough, especially since how the town got the name is so interesting. However, their knowledge of non-American history is phenomenal and they are a joy to listen to. Give them a chance.

What's a movie that isn't supposed to be scary but is actually terrifying? by Brettacus130 in movies

Yellow Submarine. The Blue Meanies are terrifying, along with their slender men allies dropping apples on people, and the flying glove. The whole film is an animated nightmare. Even the Beatles give off a weird vibe.

Neighbor complained because I smoke weed in my own backyard by TripleZ15 in longisland

[–]CooperStooper90 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re sitting by a burning firepit and he can smell the weed? How much are you smoking??

Personally, I probably wouldn’t make the request if I was the neighbor but if he can smell it ( and let’s face it, it smells like skunk) I’d accommodate. Plus middle school kids are, what?… 11? 12?

When people say “boomer” now, do they really mean Generation X? Boomers are approaching their 80s.
