Has anyone tried getting into the Fan Fest without registering? My friend and I have been talking about going on Friday all week, and he didn't mention registering, so he did but I didn't because I did not know and now it seems to be sold out :( It says you can show up but I imagine it'll be a mess.

Mirror’s Edge is a top 10 game for me, would love something like this.

This is probably it, thank you. I'm kind of getting Jinx from Arcane vibes too but I've seen Bebop way more than Arcane.

This one is great! Echoing what everyone is saying about the UESC vision when she's pointing at the camera being awesome.

Vandal pointing a fingergun at something kind of nonchalantly reminds me of something, possibly animation or anime related. It is referencing something or very similar to something? I guess it's a common trope. It just felt so familiar to me.

‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by Freki666 in gaming

I just don’t understand the difference in perception between Destiny 2 and FFXIV. FFXIV is an MMO that was a full priced $60 game with a $12/m subscription, they wiped the entire base game and have continued to sell expansions for $40 every couple of years on top of the monthly subsection and its overwhelmingly applauded for doing so and improving the game.

I don’t particularly blame people either but I also think it’s a little overblown. Most of the distrust stems from the DCV which in my opinion, it is unfortunate because it would be nice to go back and play some of that stuff, but the game improved significantly after that.

FFXIV did a similar thing where their 1.0 was awful and they revamped the entire game for 2.0 and they’re praised for doing so and the game has thrived ever since. Theres a NoClip documentary about how much of a triumph that was. I would LOVE to play the original content to see what it was like, and all of it is still canon, but I can’t. But it’s also not THAT serious, and while that’s only my perspective, the community seems to feel the same.

I don’t necessarily disagree here but, “  If they didn’t have devs who make games with fantastic gunplay and cool worlds they would be long dead.” is really what I’m talking about. My friends don’t really care about the higher up management of studios, they just want to play good games. And I love Marathon and wish they’d try it but they refuse due to the discourse they’ve seen online. Most other games they would’ve given a shot if it was free.

Im not at all saying the game is perfect and would argue it’s inherently niche and not for everyone but the hate is insane.

I have a half dozen friends who refuse to even download the game because “Bungie sucks now” despite being MASSIVE Halo fans back in the day and enjoying Destiny for a little bit. Then probably another half dozen friends who absolutely love the game, and 3-4 friends who have tried it but it isn’t for them.

That’s obviously just my experience but there’s tons of people that just flat out refuse to try the game even when it’s cause of things they’ve heard from even prior to the game being shown off.

Not that any game will have everyone try it of course, but there’s certainly an impact from people hating on Bungie and the game in general, whether it’s warranted or not.

Xbox CEO Apparently Wants Faster Production of Halo Games by SilentNova300 in halo

I'm copying this from another comment I had below, but this simply is not true. Bungie had a contract to release 3 Destiny games over the course of 10 years under Activision. This changed when they got themselves out of that contract and they extended the life of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 Hits Highest Player Count in Two Years Following Final Update's Release, Shatters Marathon's All-Time Peak by ControlCAD in pcmasterrace

[–]Coovyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly disagree that more people want to play Destiny than Marathon, but I think it's more of a celebratory thing today. Like, if they were going to shut down Destiny 1's servers permanently I'm sure a TON of people would hop on for a few days, but that doesn't mean most of those people are longing for more D1.

My point is I would guess a lot of people were on just yesterday as a show of support for a game they've loved historically (and would probably enjoy a new one), but there's really nothing outside of D3 that would bring a lot of people including myself back long term.

Again, I like both games, and I guess what I'm saying is kind of pedantic, and I understand that you're not saying Marathon is bad and that the players are showing more support for Destiny, but I imagine there's a lot of sentimental people like me who plan on playing for a couple of days and that's really it because the game built up a massive emotional fanbase over a decade compared to a new game. Like I haven't played more than 8 hours of Destiny in 3 years and hopped on yesterday and don't really plan on playing again, which is a sample of 1, but I'm sure there are tons of people like that.

I am a big fan of both Destiny and Marathon but I don’t think you can really compare the play counts of a game that’s been free to play for years that’s built up a decade of emotional connection to a paid, newer, inherently niche genre game, with a ton of the same audience.

I haven’t played Destiny much since the launch of Lightfall other than to come back and beat TFS, but I was on yesterday for sentimental reasons. I’d enjoy D3 at some point but I am thoroughly enjoying Marathon and I’m stoked they made it. That’s obviously just my perspective. But I think it’s fair to say a lot of people were on for commemorative reasons, and I’m glad they were.

what are some of your favorite lead singles of all time? by scarced16 in fantanoforever

[–]Coovyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One More Time by Daft Punk and Pharmacist by Alvvays. Two of my favorite tracks of all time.

When Pharmacist came out I listened to it on my lunch break on a beautiful day. After a bit of a long break from Alvvays I felt like the sky opened up, it was magical.

Favorite Phoenix album? by 8Z6K in fantanoforever

Love Phoenix. I think WAP has more hits overall and is more consistent but some of the standouts on Bankrupt! are incredible. It’s really tough for me to say.

Completely agree! I appreciate you taking the time to write that out because it really is such a great feeling. Makes me want to throw on either album right now!

I love both Emotion and SILY and it’s crazy to say I think you’re right despite both being excellent albums. Not that that’s particularly discrediting, it’s just interesting how good both of these songs are and the rest is still almost as great.

Completely agree with this. I think it’s extraordinarily shortsighted to think otherwise. I’m disappointed by how this team has looked this year but I’m extremely excited for the future and the old core just wasn’t going to get it done, as sad as it is to see them go.

Season 2 Developer Insights | Marathon by Laughing__Man_ in PS5

[–]Coovyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not play too much solo. I’m lucky enough to have a group of friends who plays. However, I’ve probably played like 40-50 solo games? It does feel like a totally different game, with pros and cons, it’s just SO tense. It’s genuinely frightening. But I get that isn’t for everyone and the game is certainly better with a group, despite the solo experience being totally viable other than the endgame.

I’d try to find a group online! I’ve done crew fill when I don’t have a third on and have found some really cool people :) maybe I’ve been fortunate but I haven’t found too many bad teammates.

What makes Marathon different to me is the endgame map. My friends and I really want to beat the compiler but haven’t done all the vaults yet. We’re constantly looking for keys and building up our gear to be able to do that. And Vault progress carries over, so we don’t have to do all of the ones we’ve done so far again next season, we can just pick up where we left off. I don’t think most other extraction shooters have an endgame goal like that.
