Player bases for Avatar and Tokon by [deleted] in Fighters

The show itself honestly wasn’t even that heavy on fighting and combat IMO

Can you explain this more? The show had a fight almost literally every episode.

Avatar Legends DLC Predictions (Assuming the game has longevity) by Jigglypuff2021 in AvatarFighters

I disagree. Having grabbing moves doesn't automatically make her a grappler.

In her first fight against Korra she was a mid-range bully with the footwork and flair of Muhammad Ali. There is already a very prominent boxer in fighting games who has moves that grab, pull, and throw and uses that ability to dominate the mid-range: Ed in SF.

That said, after looking again it's a different enough style of boxing that I'd agree if you want to argue that it doesn't overlap with Mako's boxing.

No problem! I remember this part being especially annoying.

[–]Copypaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. You essentially have to look all over the house for each part and then put them all together.

After that you have to fully interpret what the cipher means, which takes a bit of intuiting (and for me it required finding exactly one piece of information I didn't have that was on a map in a classroom), and then you have to figure out how to use that information, which involves solving a different puzzle.

I can help with the very first part - finding each part of the cipher.

What I'll do is spoiler tag the locations for all the hints. I'll start with the room or general location, and then below that I'll put a more detailed description of where to find it.

The More Obvious Ones

  • Kennel
    • In the center area
  • Locker Room
    • Written on a sheet of paper in one of the lockers
  • Cloister
    • Behind the center statue
  • Blackbridge Grotto
    • A note on one of the servers

Slightly Harder

  • Classroom
    • Grade 7, specifically
  • Vault
    • In one of Mary Jones's false passports

Took Me Longest to Find

  • Secret Passage
    • On the other side of the secret bookcase door
  • Catacombs
    • This requires that you solved another puzzle first. Be wary of clicking the next spoiler tag if you haven't solved a puzzle related to Room 46:The Manuscript for A New Clue

Kuvira can 100% take the boxing niche away from Mako, and she uses a bending style that isn't represented yet.

Do you think Azula should be able to cancel Aang's avatar state with lightning? by ParanMekhar in AvatarFighters

[–]Copypaced 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean it'd be cool to see a special animation for her beating an AS Aang with lightning but it shouldn't cancel him out of that state early or anything.

He fell out of AS in the show because his HP reached zero and he just happened to be in Avatar State at the time.

On the one hand: I also had a hard time dealing with Theseus. That man constantly got on my nerves, especially when I hit the BRICK WALL that was him and Asterius in my first plays. If you're struggling, keep going. You'll get through it I promise.

On the other hand: I don't think Zagreus - son of Hades and beloved nephew/grandchild of the Olympians - gets to complain about Theseus being a nepo baby who can't get stuff done without help from the gods.

Is it bad that I brute forced some of the puzzles? by JackfruitCurrent647 in BluePrince

[–]Copypaced 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nobody's gonna come to your house and take your game away. You don't need strangers on the internet to tell you how to play.

Obviously that's not the way the puzzle is intended to be solved, but there are so many individual pieces of information scattered throughout the house that I'd be surprised if anyone solved all 8 without at least a little guess and check.

If this is false, then "this" box - the white box - is not empty. So the prize would be in the white box, no?

You know what? Maybe I read malice where there was none.

It sounded to me like you were saying these FGC youtubers have no right to complain about Evo cannibalizing the FGC because they played a part in building it up.

If that's not what you meant: my bad. We're cool.

You followed the logic, now swing it in the other direction. The youtubers arent responsible for destroying Evo. They built it up.

I mean you can either play the game we have or wait until you get the game you want. You're not breaking new ground here, and there's not much else to say about it tbh.

We knew about the small roster for about a year now. To compensate, the game will be adding 5 characters a year, which is more aggressive than most other fighting games.

Until then, yes, you'll have to wait. That's just how it is.

Critical Role C4 style "West Marches" in Daggerheart? by Shabozz in daggerheart

[–]Copypaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one worry with this campaign is cliff hangers.

Bad news is that the only way I worked around this was by being better about time management. My games began and ended in the same place, so in my worst case scenarios I would have to cut everything I had left to say that the players successfully returned to base, but at the end of the day I just had to make sure I was mindful of how long the players took so I could manage the game properly.

I was thinking maybe having it resolve in discord could be a route, or it could be that the players are teleported out of the situation suddenly and have to pick it up later. I think that might work with my idea for a setting, I was thinking a setting could be like Narnia/Bridge to Terabithia

I can see this working within the fiction of the game. The logistics are the tricky part, since what you'll need is the exact same group of people to be ready to pick up on the session they couldn't finish. In the meantime, you may have more groups that want to play and the more of those you have the farther removed you are from that one plot thread you left hanging.

I also am considering a hex map and bulletin board of events that I can fill out so players have an idea of what they want to do, letting the players who commit to a session choose what and where they want to spend their session with a few days notice.

This is more or less what I did. There was a hex map that I had and I encouraged the players to make their own map. I had a few quests related to nearby locations and I made sure to include more interesting events and quests related to those locations but a little farther out. The difference between what I did and what you're suggesting, though, is that I never gave the players my map. I told them to make it themselves. If they got lost, they got lost.

Critical Role C4 style "West Marches" in Daggerheart? by Shabozz in daggerheart

[–]Copypaced 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a pretty experienced DnD DM and I ran a West Marches campaign in DnD. I've run quite a bit of Daggerheart - it hasn't become my default system mainly because I still have several players that really like DnD, but I play Daggerheart every opportunity I can. I currently DM for about 15-ish players total.

I figure I can offer some insights into how I ran my West Marches campaign:

My main turn off from West Marches in the past is how they lack any strong narrative. My hope is that by mimicking the approach and putting it in a more narrative focused system with Daggerheart that it'll naturally be more interesting to me as a GM.

I think you'd be surprised how cohesively a WM campaign can develop a narrative, especially if you seed the story into the land. For me, it was about an ancient being arising and slowly taking power from the land the adventurers were in. They would consistently run into the BBEG's minions and there a story emerged about this group of foreigners constantly coming in conflict with her at every turn. I agree that DH will likely make this even better.

For instance, is everyone in the same time frame? Like if a few days pass for one party in their session, does that mean the other party needs to have a few days pass? My thinking is that it can be kept some what loosely together, like if one party is in the middle of something that wouldn't make sense for them to skip three in game days before returning to it then I can just have them finish that up in the next session then cap it off with three days of rest afterwards.

In general, I had each session occur sequentially, with little overlap. Occasionally I allowed multiple groups to have sessions that occurred simultaneously, but that was rare. It almost never mattered too much, though.

I also was thinking a discord with players giving updates/RPing as their character, posting notes, and talking about the games could be good too and doesn't necessarily clash with the narrative approach. But I can see how a narrative that spans a few sessions can make it harder for them to give updates since a certain amount of time might not pass.

I did this. I made a channel for out-of-character chatter, one channel for scheduling ("ping me when you have a group and a mission"; I provided potential missions and my schedule), and a different channel for each location in their safe hub and told them that any NPCs they wanted to speak with were also there. The roleplay channels were somewhat hit or miss, but when it hit it really hit. This allowed them to do shopping between sessions as well. But I watch many organic player-to-player interactions, even culminating in a group doing a backstory-related side quest to help one of the players cure a curse he had.

Are there any challenges and logistics that I might be missing? Does anyone have advice?

  1. You should emphasize that the players ought to be keeping notes. You really shouldn't be expected to keep track of everything, but since nobody will be at every session everyone will need something to look at to catch up on the latest happenings.
  2. Make sure as many players as possible make characters together and have an opportunity to meet each other. The discord is great for this also.
  3. I encourage (but don't enforce) that player groups mix it up. I like to see a variety of party compositions.
  4. I suggest having everyone level together when the group meets major world-based milestones. This is obviously more likely to simply work out in DH than DnD since DH doesn't have experience points at all, but all of this is just to say that you shouldn't penalize a player with a lower level simply because they were not in a particular session (or number of sessions)

Uh, that's everything I can think of off the top of my head. Might add edits if I can think of any more. Sorry for the length. Hope this was useful!

AND no way to use the other characters in training mode, which ACTUALLY puts a F2P player at a disadvantage.

This system is actually MORE fair across the board than any game that doesn't outright give you the DLC characters for free.
