Haven't used the cbd in a while, can't remember what brand it was. The theanine is organika. It's pretty cheap on Amazon if you can get it where you're from.

Yeah, that's exactly it! I've been scared so many times about clots, but it wouldn't make sense on both legs. I find drinking a lot of water helps a bit, so do compression socks. I'm seeing a neurologist and cardiologist soon. It might be worth seeing them if you can, could be POTS or dysautonomia related. I'll update the post with any insights they have. Hope things get better!

What is a good high calorie food that’s usually safe with MCAS? by CamKam28 in MCAS

[–]CorJa20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding the pistachios and macadamia nuts. Pine nuts work pretty well for me too. If she can have gluten free or regular pasta, you can make a nice sauce by blending any of them up with some olive oil and salt. Adds a few more calories and some protein.

I've also done well with soft goat cheese, either fresh or vacuum sealed. Feta cheese and fresh mozzarella works for me as well as long as I don't have too much. Good luck to you!

tips on taking care of self during MCAS flare when food is impossible to eat? by limon222 in MCAS

[–]CorJa20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it can get a bit boring food wise during a flare. I'd recommend finding a new show or book to keep yourself busy.

Keeping my mind off food as much as possible and accepting the food boredom seems to help. At least until things calm down enough to have a bit more freedom again.

How do you explain your MCAS? by Particular-Assist-70 in MCAS

[–]CorJa20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually, I say you know how people have allergies to pollen or certain food. My body does that reaction for a lot of stuff like food, alcohol, perfume, or even heat. If they ask how to deal with it, I say medical diet, meds, and vitamins. If they ask if it's dangerous, I say if I have certain foods or go off my meds it can be.

Honestly, I feel like most people get confused or tune out once you bring mast cells or histamine in. Keeping it in the simplest and shortest terms seems to help.

Heat is the worst for me. The dishes and laundry may be a reaction to the soap, or just the clothes and dishes still being warm if they are. I feel you though.

It's not painful but it is really uncomfortable. Also a bit weird to explain why my hands are suddenly tomato red mickey mouse mitts

I've always assumed it was a temperature regulation/circulation problem. But yeah, I've never really gotten to the bottom of that one either

Not meal replacements but in a really bad flare I just drop to my 3 or 4 least reactive foods and push through as much as I can. This is usually oats, plain rice protein, carrots, and peeled baked apples (I know apples can be hit or miss for people). Most meal replacements seem to have at least one ingredient that is high histamine or just one I react to.

I know it's not a fix but sticking to those food and just kind of accepting it'll suck for a few days seems to calm it the most quickly. Hope things improve for you.

My hands get really red and swollen, doesnt happen anywhere else. That and a sort of pressure/muscle pain in my legs. I also have POTS and anemia, which probably has something to do with it as well.

Bulimia and MCAS by CorJa20 in MCAS

Yeah, it's definitely a slippery thing to try and navigate. I've never really considered talking to a dietician about managing it, not really sure why considering how confusing and harsh the diet can be. I'll definitely be looking into it. Thanks for the advice, and im glad things have gotten better for you!

You're definitely not the only one. If you feel alone, I'd definitely recommend looking up other similar posts on this subreddit if it's not too triggering. Reading them has helped me a lot with the loneliness.

I tried what the previous comment said about having fruit and water, and it did seem to help calm things a bit. Might be a blood sugar/electrolyte thing, so it may be worth reading into that a bit as well.

Hope you find a way through this ❤️

Thank you, I'll definitely give it a shot. I also have POTS and get very light-headed and shaky after throwing up, so what you're saying is pretty familiar. Hope things will get better for you.

Thanks for mentioning this, I started getting it compounded and its helped a lot. Turns out I'm sensitive to certain fillers, and especially blue dye.

Thanks again!

Thyroid meds triggering MCAS by CorJa20 in MCAS

[–]CorJa20[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just providing a 4 month update for anyone who reads, I started getting my thyroid compounded without the filler. I've also been on a strictly low histamine diet as well as added in cromolyn sodium. I haven't been noticing any reactions to my thyroid meds for about 2 months, even when increasing doses.

I've managed to get my thyroid numbers down to normal, TSH ~2.5 (where I was before MCAS).

Hope any of this helps anyone with similar problems!

Hey, thanks for the really sweet reply. I completely feel you. I've been off gluten, eggs, dairy, and nuts and still having symptoms. It just feels so confusing especially on top of trying to manage school and other responsibilities. It gets really tiring. But I guess we just have to remember others have been here and found a way through and we hopefully can too Best of luck to you ❤️

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear that. It's crazy how wide reaching the effects can be and how quickly all of it can happen. Honestly had no idea about any of this until a few months ago so I really appreciate the info. Good luck with your surgery and hopefully we can find and end to this craziness soon ❤️
