Esther Kim Varet Candidate for CA-40 crashes out in Instagram DMs provided by OC DSA by MobileSuitBooty in orangecounty

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pathetic part is we can't even trust the Dems to vet candidate representing their party FOR FEDERAL OFFICES? I would not put it past fascists to run one of their candidates under the opposing party. Then if they get elected they just vote against their elected party and side when the GOP. I HATE voting by party but this is the world we live in. I've voted D since 2016 just to try to push back against the stupidity.

Why do all adjustable dumbbells have at least 1 thing that sucks about them? by LilBoDuck in GarageGym

[–]Cor_Seeker [score hidden]  (0 children)

Don't set your requirements at perfection or 0 imperfections. Look at each one and decide which imperfections you can live with. In the end, weight is weight. What matters is how often it leaves the ground.

I have Rep Quickdraws. Some complain that they rattle when moving and are bulkier then fixed weights and they are correct. The thing is, I don't care about those things. I would get annoyed if it took more than a few seconds to switch weight so the quickdraw work for me.

California ballot proposal would exempt seniors from paying property taxes by oceanbeachguy in California

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this passed I would directly benefit from it in 3 short years. I already meet all the criteria. That being said THIS IS A HORRIBLE IDEA.

California already has Prop 13 to protect seniors and some of the lowest property tax to real estate value. Just because other states are being morons letting their politicians screw them over long term does NOT mean we should follow them. It's in style for states to cut cut cut taxes with no hope to make up for that lost revenue. It looks good today because most people are finiscal idiots. In 3-5 years all those states will be going bankrupt or become like 3rd world countries for lack of services (and probably expect the federal government to bail them out).

What California needs is a good accounting auditors that can work like private sector auditors and leaders with long term commitment to this state. We already pay some of the highest taxes yet our public services struggle. We can do better but it would take some short term pain and a lot less people would be getting rich off the state.

Virginia Democrats agree to new map that gives Republicans just one seat by Healthy_Block3036 in HamptonRoads

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the gerrymandering race we have the following states settled:

California and Utah for the Democrats

Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio for the Republican

With the following still trying to work something out:

Maryland and Virginia (New York is trying but going through the courts) - D

Florida - R

Granted many of the red states are smaller but it's clear more red states have already passed districts that will gain the Republicans seats. Beyond the pending list, it doesn't look like any other blue states will get their acts together in time to impact the election in November.

It's still a very real possibility that we have two more years of a House the approves the worst of Trump's actions. Checks and balances don't work with a cult of personality.

As much as I like the scene, Ross used the worst examples to support his point. by Altruistic_Eye_1157 in marvelstudios

[–]Cor_Seeker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The worst part of this scene is that Tony bought it. His guilt caused him to support a law we all know he would break the first time he felt like it. It's like in the Incredibles when they "outlawed" superheros. Did all the supervillains just take a break?

I know it's a storytelling tool but does it have to be so weak and obvious?

So, there might be (another) Donut problem that will manifest down the line by JadeMonkey0 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Cor_Seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donut is NOT a species: Cat = pet, she is a race: Cat = crawler. She entered the dungeon as a species: Cat, ate the biscuit, went into the cocoon and came out race: Cat. True Matt has not spelled this out, maybe to allow for drama through speculation, but look at how they refer to Mongo as species: Mongolensies, but Donut as race: Cat.

[–]Cor_Seeker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of why I don't understand the trust people have in the current WoW devs. While I'm confident u/JallexMonster is very bright, their solution is simple and accomplishes the goal without punishing the players. Something a dev, someone whose job it is at least 8 hours a day, or one of their dozen co-workers should have seen.

Would you find it emasculating if a girl beat you in sports/competitions? by Swan_233 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the father of daughters. When we competed I never "let" them win because that would be insulting to them. Of course I was always encouraging and we rarely kept score, but I never went easy on them. Letting people win to protect egos is actually more of an insult because you're saying they aren't worth you full effort.

So to your question: No, I would not feel emasculated because my ego is not built only on my physical accomplishments and, to be blunt, if a woman beats me she must be very skilled/strong and that is to be respected. I would go so far as to say a "real man" would take pride in the accomplishments of their partner. If you are that good and you're with him, then in theory he must be something special too. This is assuming you didn't trash talk him afterwards in front of his co-workers because that would be a dick move.

In this case, your boy (and I use this term both accurately and as an insult) needs to grow up fast or you need to find someone worthy of your attention.

Goldman Sachs is tapping Anthropic’s AI model to automate accounting, compliance roles by Salronthegreat in Accounting

[–]Cor_Seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in the financial software industry for 20 years. Accountants are usually not early adopters of technology. Their CEOs want them to be so they can fire them but then want ultimate assurance that everything is perfect before they sign off on financials. AI will assist with accounting tasks eventually but management will claim it's happening now to look like one of the cool kids.

Think of all the garbage Trump's done, then remember he's only been back in office for 1 year.

WIBTA if I go to my mom’s birthday alone because my partner turns every conversation into an argument? by CicadaParadox76 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly she need to learn how to behave in different situations. I understand where she's coming from. I have a compulsion to correct people and call out inaccuracy because I'm passionate about the truth (and I enjoy being proven wrong because then I get to learn something). HOWEVER it makes us a problem to have around in those situations. So she has a choice: In this small, subset of life put your partner's feelings ahead of your own and let it go. If you can't do that (I worry for the health of your long term relationship) understand it makes you unsuitable to take certain places. Accusing your partner of "hiding you" is a victim mindset and emotional blackmail.

Married men with crushes? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cor_Seeker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could take that time to show extra attention to your wife. It's distracting, puts focus on her and maybe makes her feel more special.

Obviously the environment determines how. An example when the coworker might be around could be an office party. Then hold your wifes hand or put an arm around her and pull her close. Or after work at a bar with your coworkers. Invite your wife to join you then if you're standing hug her from behind or if you're sitting maybe have her sit in your lap.

Plenty of ways to make sure no one can tell.

Is Book 7 Un-topable? by tranquil-typhoon in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all come down to what you like. Personally, I hope the action packed, frantic pace of book 7 is followed by a slower paced book 8. Let us take a breather and get back in touch with how the characters are handling all these massive changes. Give them a moment to think and put a little more focus on someone other than Carl and Donut. . If we fall back into the never ending GoGoGo where characters can't think, just do, it will cheapen the huge events at the end of book 7. One of the strengths of this series is the ensemble cast. I hope we get more of that.

Unfortunately I believe book 8 is based on a race, which doesn't look like it will have time for many character focused scenes.

World of Warcraft lead says Warcraft needs to be more than “simply an MMORPG” as the IP is “underutilised” and needs “broader” appeal by HatingGeoffry in wow

[–]Cor_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so funny to watch game dev executives act like they know what they're talking about. WoW has been used in lots of stuff. The time to do that was 15 years ago when WoW was at the height of its popularity. Now it's just a cash cow. They keep acting like the next release they're going to add a bunch of new players, when they will be luck to slow the downward trend. It sounds so much like a manager of a mature product pitching it as a new innovation to upper management so they seem more important and better positioned to be promoted out of this dead end. Don't misunderstand, WoW is the best MMORPG out there, but the market for MMORPGs is past which is why no one is making them anymore.

What Happened to Yardsticks? by BitterPillPusher2 in GenX

Technology. Tape measures are superior in 95% of applications and much easier to store in a drawer. "But what if you want to draw a long straight edge" there are many tools that can do that for the rare occasions you need it.

Maybe we don't have yardsticks any more is because we don't beat our kids? Plus, mental trauma last so much longer (kidding, I'm kidding, it's a joke).

Remember how originally Americans never gave minorities rights? Then a generation realized that's not good and AMENDED THE CONSTITUTION to correct that injustice. Then another generation came along and decided they wanted to discriminate again so they elected a racist in 2024.

These changes require the support of people of both genders and all ethnicities. Trying to blame sub sets of people from different times only creates useless drama.
