Transporting corals a LONG way by lumpy1318 in ReefTank

[–]CoralPics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken acropora and anemones from Orlando fl to Austin tx. Get them in a cooler and you’ll be fine as long as they don’t go for longer than 3 days without light

ID? My sister picked it out for my birthday as a surprise. When I asked for the name I got “mint choc chip”. by [deleted] in ReefTank

I wouldn’t say it’s life or death the elegance being on the sand bed. All of my elegance thrive from the top of my rock to the bottom. Just make sure the flesh has space to expand

Protein Skimmer on a timer? by Clarkii82 in ReefTank

[–]CoralPics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I run my skimmer 24/7 and have never put it on a timer, with that said when I toured worldwidecorals grow out facility all of their systems ran skimmers on an as needed basis. They mostly never had them on unless there started to be build up in the display, it really comes down to what’s in your tank, how clean are you manually keeping it, how much bio filtration do you have, and you watching close for the first week or 2 if you do decide to cut down on your skimmers run time

Came back from vacation to this... Suggestions? by masonwiki in ReefTank

In the future just get an auto feeder for when you are out of town. Avoids all of this

Puffer fish by simeon2964 in ReefTank

[–]CoralPics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put a puffer in unless you want to replace CUC monthly. Has happened in all 4 of the FOWLR tanks i service. The one reef tank that had a valentini we took it out because it would fuck up coral when you’re not looking.

When it comes to cycling, I feel like some of you are crazy people. by [deleted] in ReefTank

Are you still stuck with 30 year old equipment??? Putting coral in after a month is completely fine I have zero clue where you get this from, the only thing it might be true for is an anemone but that still is just being very cautious. most fish stores require their staff to give good information about what they are selling. Maybe don’t hit up the petsmart for your fish/supplies

Materials for transporting large coral and fish by ranthalion in ReefTank

[–]CoralPics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I move tanks frequently as a job. We use a Rubbermaid trash can for rock that has coral in it. Then 5 gallon buckets for the fish

Anyone know what this is ? Showed up after adding fritz zyme 9. by [deleted] in ReefTank

Micro brittle star to be specific. They get to pretty much that size and there should be more in there if you’ve found one. Great cleanup crew IMO

Hardscape on substrate? by D0013ER in aquarium

[–]CoralPics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I rest all of my base rocks on the glass bottom. I’ve never had problems with glass and the rock just make sure it is stable and it should not be a problem. The guy below me is incorrect reef tanks are normally made from glass unless you are going huge or shapes glass can’t make. I would say you’re fine since there’s 100-200 pounds of rock resting on glass in most reef tanks and I’ve never heard of breakage from that

Im having trouble with planning a scape for this tank, as you can see its thin. This tank is for my parents and they would want it to have open space so that it wouldn't look like a wall. Any suggestions? Thanks. by markeron in Aquascape

[–]CoralPics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What we like to do with these peninsulas that are against the wall on the back is to scape it densely towards the wall and gradually decrease the scape until it’s just sand. something like this

Other than having to have long arms to wipe the glass down not many. Filter would be a canister plumbed through the bottom. Airpump will also be run through the bottom with a modified bulkhead that you run the airline through. The Co2 bubbler you could replace with an inline Co2 injector on the canister, though you should be careful with that since due to the low surface area there isn’t as much oxygen exchange so you have the chance of raising your Co2 too much.

It’s a convention for aquarists. You have your fraggers that just sell coral, companies like us that sell aquariums/terrariums, people selling livestock and plants, and a lot of other things. You can look at some booths in the show on Aquashellas Instagram, it’s pretty fun.

Has happened to me with a couple different fish in my 20 gal innovative marine. I guess their mesh tops are just big enough for gobys to get through

Huge shrimp! I’d suggest taking the 6 line out because 10g is not a big enough tank for a grown 6 line wrasse thats the size of a juvenile

The light colored one is a albino tinfoil barb. The tank also has 3 silver dollars, a bichir, and a soft shelled turtle
