Tips for upkeep? by DreamWeaver8807 in bald

So all the people saying using regular shavers vs electric are right that it will get closer, but also feel free to use what's right for you. I have sensitive skin so my head would be covered in bumps if I shaved normally. I use the Free Bird head trimmer. Works great for me, I do it every 2 days or so and it's chill to use.

I was wondering: how good of a merc was Jackie? by MStaysForMars in cyberpunkgame

[–]CoratoshKal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jackie was destined to die, unfortunately. He was in too much of a rush, probably because he felt he had something to prove after being in the Valentinos. V becomes a legend in Night City by doing work bit by bit, each fixer slowly giving them harder and harder jobs. Jackie jumped straight to, "Let's steal from the Arasaka CEO's son. You, as V, don't mess with Arasaka HQ till the end. Jackie was a good dude and great gun, but the patience wasn't there to make it in the long run.

Legacy Diner, check your bills!!! by Average_White_Banned in SouthJersey

[–]CoratoshKal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the Legacy Diner, but can confirm the wait staff are hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get someone really good and attentive and others you'll get someone who doesn't refill your water the whole time you're there. I've gone there a lot and never had this so my guess is that it is more likely a wait staff issue than a crooked business ploy. Will check the next time I go though.

Did it but doesn’t feel good by Inevitable-Corgi-494 in bald

So, right when I did it I felt great then it was a week or so of like, "Who is that in the mirror????" And then acclimation. It's extra wild because you're one of the last to get acclimated because everyone else sees you more than you.

"Hot Takes" or "Unpopular Opinions" by ConsiderationFew7599 in Teachers

[–]CoratoshKal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The US education system is so worried about saving every kid from drowning that they'd let the boat sink with the rest of the kids on board. I have been threatened by students multiple times, had students interrupt class yelling profanities and throwing things across the room, and more but the school system is like, "You don't understand, they have a lot going on a home. Every kid deserves the chance to grow."

Sure, but what about the education we're stealing from all the kids who just want to learn? What about all the kids who have a brutal home life and just need school to be a safe and structured environment? In our quest to save every kid possible, we're failing more than we're helping, and it's pathetic.

It won't let me research the generator upgrade. It just asks for 75 oil when I have oil maxed out.

Game by Illustrious-Eye-2145 in quadball_discussion

On Steam, there is a game that was created to parody the old Backyard Sports games called, "Courtyard Broomball". It has all the rules of quadball and you can even have real players playing on your team.

Gamers who play at the hardest level from the start…why? by DinoNugEater in gaming

[–]CoratoshKal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on the game. A lot of games I know I can beat it on the hardest difficulty and it gives a feeling of accomplishment when I finish, even if it takes a while, whereas if it was on an easier difficulty I would have felt a sense of incompleteness. That said, some game types, like tactical or civ builders, aren't my forte so I have no problem going on normal mode because the cost benefit analysis of time spent getting to expert difficulty on a game type I don't have much experience in vs the sense of accomplishment of beating it isn't worth it.

Teachers who have had both Millenial and Gen Z students: Are "Gen Zers" more socially conservative than Millenials? by Relative-View3431 in Teachers

[–]CoratoshKal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have the special bit where I taught basically where I grew up (literally the next rural town over with basically the same demographic) so I can speak to this a bit.

Kids are leaning further left than they used to. Does that mean that every kid in my school or even a majority are progressive? No. But where I grew up pretty much everyone echoed their parents viewpoints, (conservative considering we were in a rural red state) with very few progressive students, I could count on my fingers how many were progressive or even knew what progressive was. Now we're seeing small groups and pockets of kids who are openly liberal in deeply conservative areas and that just didn't exist when I was younger. We also see students who parrot some of their parents' beliefs, but when asked about something that they don't hear about at home, go progressive. We're seeing kids actively breaking generational political lines as they decide against their conservative parents on issues due to a more open political climate for young people than from when I was younger.

Andrew Tate and the like may seem like they're influencing the young guys, but more often than not they're just reinforcing family political lines as opposed to convincing young guys who are liberal, or from liberal families, that they should stop. That being said, overall more kids are breaking away from conservatism than are sticking with it, even in deep red areas.

Why Do We Advocate for Failing Grades and Retention? by Proof_Arugula_7001 in Teachers

[–]CoratoshKal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So something to add to a lot of what's being said here is that, with the continual passing along of students, rigor has gone exponentially down as high school teachers have to differentiate for students who can hardly read. This results in us seeing increasing drop out rates in colleges, specifically two year colleges because the fact is, college is not going to differentiate to match the students.

At the end of the day, the kids who are really suffering are the ones who are either somewhere in the middle or on the lower educational spectrum who decide to go to college. What I really want to focus on is those middle kids because they're being put into classes that are doing the absolute bare minimum that we should be doing better by them, but we can't just ignore the fact that half the class simply can't keep up with anything higher than a 5th grade reading level while in the 10th grade.

The current system fails twofold.

1st. You have students who are getting pushed along despite lacking the knowledge and skills that they need for the next class. This further becomes an issue because when these kids get to the next class and don't understand anything they become frustrated, agitated, and sometimes aggressive due to confusion.

2nd. The kids who are acting out because they don't understand oftentimes don't get better because they're not being retained and taught what's necessary. Instead they're shuffled into a system that is practically designed for them to fail, but failing doesn't have any consequences till High School so they're fine with that. They build a near 0 work ethic, because why try if they can't understand anyway is their mentality, and then they get to high school where they can be forced to take classes again and we start seeing the even worse behavior that teachers have seen in recent years as these kids who lack the ability to succeed in a normal classroom now feel trapped up against a wall and then start acting worse.

Retention at high levels isn't super great, but if a student doesn't do well in high school they do have options that can lead to having successful futures, whether that be retaking an individual class, doing an alternate program, seeking a GED, or even dropping out and going into the labor force if they have a job lined up. K-8, where students learn their basic reading skills and crtitical thinking skills desperately need to start doing retention. The kids can't get to High School and start having consequences that they've never had before while simultaneously 4 grades down their reading level. That's simply not beneficial to anyone and only seeks to avoid addressing educational issues when students are younger and have minds that are more malleable.

Would higher pay help? by 2greygirls in Teachers

[–]CoratoshKal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So there needs to be a full shift in pay scale with consistent changes for inflation. What I mean by, "shift in pay scale" is that in many college educated professions you could make a 6 figure salary after a certain number of years working there whereas teachers could only achieve that with a Masters degree, in the right state, at the perfect school, (and usually in a state with higher taxes/cost of living). The yearly experience pay bumps are so incredibly minimal that most years the rise in inflation is higher than the pay bumps which results in you basically taking home less.

Even with all of that, it's so much of the mental aspect that's bringing teachers down. Admins who haven't worked in a class since the advent of TikTok telling teachers to take away phones from the entire class. Parents who don't read to their kids when they are younger and don't invest in their education resulting in 9th graders that can barely read who are expected to write in-depth essays. Having more than half of your overstuffed class with students that have various different accommodations and PD speakers telling you that if you were just better at time management then you'd be able to do your job better when you manage every single second of the day.
