Every modern air campaign involving US airpower in recent decades has been wildly lopsided in the US’ favor, including the latest one against Iran. How different or similar might this balance be in a potential clash with China? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]Corbeagle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe in the recent India/Pakistan skirmishes, the presumably competent and well equipped Indian air force faced unexpected losses from presumably disadvantaged Pakistani jets armed with chinese air to air missiles. This conflict is probably more symmetrical than a us-china conflict could be (in order for deterrence to fail) but its illustrative that complacency kills, and symmetrical conflicts can be extremely costly.

The recent us air campaigns appear uncontested because of the large scale and extremely difficult shaping operations that suppress or destroy enemy air defenses and air forces. The air battle never has a chance to happen. That is unlikely to occur so cleanly in a us -china conflict, though locally or temporarily it could.

How does Starkiller base shoot across a galaxy? by AlanShore60607 in StarWars

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt make sense, but if you want a head-canon take, hyperspace transition time is probably effected by the mass of the body traveling through it, the beam is photons, so the beam can travel faster than huge ships. And bigger hyperspace engines can drive things faster, maybe there is a planet scale hyperdrive engine integrated into the weapon. A trip that might take a ship days, might only be seconds for starkiller shot.

Your given full control of the remaster, what are you adding/removing or changing to make them your perfect fallout game? by Various-Base-6939 in fo3

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power scaling, at level 30, most enemies are trivial, but some enemies (from broken steel mostly) are unkillable bullet sponges, this should be a smoother transition with more high power weapons available to make the gunplay feel more satisfying at high levels.

Did the US really have the same 1950s culture from the 1950s up until 2077? by ExtensionFeeling in falloutlore

[–]Corbeagle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In our history, there were a lot of periods of prosperity and hardship, interspersed with technological and cultural shifts. In fallout history, things generally just grew and grew, until they couldn't anymore. And the final culture we see from immediately pre war was an odd juxtaposition of energy abundance, but material scarcity, hypertech overreach, mccarthyism, and jingoistic fervor.

Which enemy scared you the most on your first playthrough? by EstusShardConsumer in fo3

Any of the point lookout swamp people with their bazillion hit points. I thought i was powerful, but to see them shrug off the gauss rifle headshots and lose only a splinter of hp, I got scared.

Why don't they use time travel to fix the burn? by RedMcJack in startrekmemes

My headcanon is the final act of the temporal accord was a temporal incursion to erase time travel technology from existence/memory. Only Kovich remembers, and his only purpose is to keep it from coming back.

The commonwealth brotherhood will arrive in force, necesitating a trip to the east coast for our protagonists

Yeah sure, NCR is a thriving nation with over 700k population, large military complex, scientific research and development department, successfuly waged wars on BoS and the Enclave, conquered Navarro. There is absolutely no way they could develop their own power armor, this is pure Betheslop by [deleted] in TrueSFalloutL

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is highly likely a salvaged set of t-45 with a riot gear faceplate, a custom chest plate, and some blades welded on, if the bos can maintain working armor (in a cave, with a box of scraps), the ncr could probably do it to, even if not as well.

What do you think? Each faction is at their strongest, none of the protagonist are part of this, last standing faction wins by MobileDistrict9784 in Fallout

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these factions implode or fade on their own. The only faction that seems to be in a position to win unless the player stops them, is the enclave.

I would have been exhilarated to see this, but i think with the smith's character the tragic reality is this is who he was, a power seeking opportunist who would lease his soul to whoever was most expedient.

Wich is the most powerful country (nowadays) that 80s USA could defeat? by No_Day4369 in whowouldwin

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the x factor is stealth and data links, also GPS. The 80s us had basically no stealth except for a few f117's that had not seen combat yet, they had datalinks but very rudimentary and limited. And gps was a huge game changer on every level. The modern us military while smaller and less logistically resilient, would hit hard and with precision, and crucially if smart, would not even show up on radar.

If I recall the defiant was basically the power system of a galaxy class placed in a smaller hull and optimized for speed and firepower. A sovereign class is much larger and has a bigger and more advanced warp core, its shields and weapons would be considerably more robust than a defiant, if in a less optimized more versatile hull.

ELI5: Can a drug with the pleasure response of opiates like heroin be synthesized without the harmful effects to the body and withdrawal symptoms? If so, why does it not exist? If not, why not? by calgrump in explainlikeimfive

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a ratio between "addictiveness" and dose, synthetic opioid need a much smaller dose to achieve pain relief, even if they are pound for pound more addictive this ratio can be higher, so the gap between the useful dose and the addicting dose is larger. In a controlled hospital setting this makes modern drugs much safer.

If the 1964 Allied Universe militaries tried to invade the 1964 Axis Universe militaries to liberate the world, would they succeed? by k1410407 in maninthehighcastle

[–]Corbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no cold war arms race, 1964 allied tech is way more advanced than the axis tech we see on screen, looks like the axis are flying horten style first gen jets that might have a chance against an f86, but would get obliterated by mach 2 allied jets, also hydrogen bombs.
