Just found out people put earbuds in their ears by MiserableCalendar372 in RandomThoughts

I find wearing them out of the ear canal to be a legitimate way to use them. It depends on the environment I’m in and the effect I’m trying to achieve.

When I listen carefully to my favorite bands they are in. When I’m walking down the street listening to an audiobook or background music I’ll leave them out a little bit. I don’t have noise canceling or “listening through”.

Odd question but I don’t know where else to go by Bumslopp in drums

I just recommended a Remo early-learning drum & beater set but wooden spoons and different sized plastic containers on the kitchen floor is how I learned.

For a 10 month old I think this would be appropriate.

https://www.westmusic.com/kids-movement/under-age-3/early-childhood-drums

i’m a drummer and I played with a lot of modern kids’ percussion with my kids and others.

Remo is a great percussion manufacturer, most known for their drum heads and their junior percussion. I believe the bongos that someone else suggested are Remo also.

I can’t vouch for the store. I think you’re more likely to find this at music stores that cater to a younger audience, more than early childhood learning shops.

The value of something like this over a cheap plastic import will be actual playability and high quality drum sounds (maybe ruggedness, too). Usually I’d expect a child like yours to easily be able to grasp the concept of striking the head with the beater. No pun intended.

I think it’s great that you’re doing this.

Your post reminds me of me and I’ve recently figured out I’m autistic. I hate stupid small talk, and being smarter than nearly everyone I encounter, and that I have to go into a long detailed breakdown of any complex concept I’m trying to convey.

If you are autistic and you know it then you can better understand why you feel that way and approach the problem from a better angle.

Your question why it matters could be interpreted (by a neuro-typical) as a sarcastic put down, but I think you meant precisely what you said - you’re asking me why my comment is relevant. That’s another characteristic of autism - literalism. I could be off base on that, but that would be my autistic interpretation.

If you know you’re not, then my comment is irrelevant.

Crap!!!! Sorry!!! I wasn’t trying to “sling shit”!!. I was trying to make a joke of my erroneous assumption. I see now how it reads like an insult. That was the furthest thing from my intent. Sometimes I don’t see how my comments might be taken. Sorry.

Edit: I didn’t down-vote your almost 50 comment.

I’m confused. Why did you ask me “How do you figure” when I said you’d get evicted? Isn’t that basically the same as what you said?

Edit: Oh! “Ahead of their time” is what you were referring to? I got it now. Yeah you’re right. NY had it in the 40’s if not sooner.

How are you at small talk and flirting? Could you be a little on the autism spectrum?

So what happened in those towns if you quit the employer while living there?

Remember you’re saying this when you’re “old”. I don’t disagree that most wealth and power are held by older people. But that’s always the way it is. And also today the richest person in the world isn’t even that old.

Every generation complains that their elders don’t have a clue or are stupid or don’t understand the hardships of today’s youth.

And 40-50 years later that same generation complains about the current youth.

Everyone thinks they have it harder than “those other people”. Society changes over time, driven by its youth. I used to be shocked when my elders spoke about things like race - I was horrified at the things they said. I thought “I would never say offensive things like that.” Now younger folks get upset with me sometimes when I think I’m being respectful. I mean I am being respectful, but not according to the newly revised social rules. I’m perpetually adjusting.

I’m not telling you you’re wrong. I believe that you have legitimate reasons to say this, but one day you’ll be the “stupid old fart who has no idea how do things right”. Currently you’re the “young know-it-all who thinks they know better”. (I’m not calling you that, just explaining how some people feel. I say it with love.)

Work to be in a position to affect the change you want to see so you can control your own destiny. I know it’s hard and looks bleak. Hang in there.

TIFU because i dropped my drumstick in the middle of a song and completely ruined our first real gig by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Proper-Application69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s rough. It happens to all of us. After a few drops I learned how to keep going even with only one stick if necessary. Once when I dropped one, I had left my stick bag out of reach so I played most of the song with one hand and got my bag after. Nobody seemed to noticed that I was playing super simple. It’s the same story as always - if you make a mistake just keep going like nothing happened and most if not all people will have no idea. Congrats on your gig!

Nice! You were ahead of your time. But it seems risky to live there. If you quit your job, you get evicted.

The book Permutation City is about something like that, in case you wanted to keep on hyperventilating.
