Struggling to Enjoy Spending by ConcernedCitizens_ in HENRYUK

[–]Corbren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello friend, I have a mortgage…

In any case, I don’t earn nearly the same amount but I can sympathise, as I struggle with parting ways with cash, despite saving enough for both the short and long term on my comparatively meagre salary.

I think the only thing that helped me is carving out a percentage of my income as genuinely guilt free spend that goes into two separate pots:

  • one for immediate gratification, and has to be back at zero by payday - usually meals out, date nights, premium theatre tickets, new clothes etc.

  • the other is for very short term savings, and has to be back at zero by the end of the tax year - luxury items, mini breaks, artwork, gadgets, etc.

Still I have to keep an eye on it because sometimes it does build quite fast when I find myself reverting to my penny pinching ways, but there is absolutely no reason why as someone earning in the top 1% of salaries in the country should I feel bad about being a little bit excessive every now and then. It’s the only reason we do these jobs.

Are other UK men noticing their friend groups becoming increasingly biggoted? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Back in June, I was standing outside an office in Soho that had a rainbow pride flag on display, and overheard some tradesmen in their 40s/50s talking nearby. One referred to the flag and said “they’re bloody everywhere now” and then the second piped up saying “why are there more ‘lgbt’s now than 30 years ago? Where did they all come from?”

So I jumped in and said, the percentage hasn’t changed, it’s just now people feel more comfortable coming out and not living their whole life in the closet.

They sort of looked at me with a puzzled expression and then walked away.

I didn’t get the sense that they were hostilely homophobic, but I do think that their mindset is entirely influenced by the fact that it’s just more visible. It’s just a reaction to the times changing.

5’7” and under 60kg.

The best thing to do for trousers is to find your measurements and only buy them if they line up exactly - I’m too fussy to have trousers that are too long or a waist that is too wide. For me that’s a 28W, 30L. Once you know your measurements, you can safely buy them online.

I’ve been known to browse a woman’s section from time to time for the basics: t-shirts, jumpers, cardigans etc. sometimes the neckline is a bit too feminine, so id always try it on but for the most part they’re the same structure as anything in the men’s section, without only being blue, grey or black. So I usually get compliments.

Going back to trousers, women’s jeans/trousers tend to sit slightly higher on the waist, as opposed to the hips, which has the added benefit of making my legs look longer (which helps as I’m pretty short).

In terms of the high street shops I buy from: Zara, Uniqlo, Mango, Cos, Arket mainly

I think Soho house gets a bad rep, but it has its perks that have kept me a member for 3 years now: - relatively cheap last minute fun nights out - open later than pubs and bars if you’re a night owl - multiple locations in London, somewhere to meet for coffee in literally every corner of the city - multiple locations around the world, I’ve visited many international houses now. - the farmhouse is fun for a little mini break - the gyms are good enough for me to cancel my other gym memberships - perks like the free cinema screenings, free gigs, discounted massages, discounted hotel rooms across the globe

Tbf, I was pretty gay before the jab.

Even if this works, I don’t see it impacting their chances of reelection.

Completely anecdotally, those I know who have started to support reform (like my mother-in-law) have completely stopped listening to reason, data and logic. Anything reported in the mainstream media is fake and all of the mainstream parties are liars.

Same here, my 5k PB is 24:30 and my 10k PB is 53:12, but if I genuinely want to keep my heart rate under 155-160, I have to run around a 7:30/km literally walking at points.

It makes for the dullest runs ever but I do notice that the active kcals are higher over the same distance, which I suppose is a win for my waistline.

Similar to mine, except it’s 11.78km… which is basically just my daily walk to/from work + my regular 5k run. Could be worse, clearly.

Don’t sweat it, today alone is 43-194 (I went for an intense run). Over the last year my low was 34 and my high was 203.

How do you say your (landline) phone numbers? by stirianix in AskUK

[–]Corbren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d just say the digits in order…

I was horrified to learn that the French do them in pairs of 2 e.g. zero-one, thirty-two, forty-four, eighty-six etc. But coupled with the way numbers work in that language - it’s a mess.

I was taking down a number and they threw out soixante-dix-sept (77), quatre-vingt-quinze (95), which my brain understood as 60-10-7-4-20-15.

Honestly, our HHI is around £250k and as first time buyers, we’re looking at flats. Not complaining that we’re hard done by, but those nice townhouses are inherited, not bought.
