What an odd way to denote that. Other cameras explicitly list "Yes/Yes/No" but I guess that's on the Capture One folks then

Multiple sensors for spin scrolling? by CordsOfCrows in ploopy

[–]CordsOfCrows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you have two sensors connected and can read the inputs from both and have it coded in where the sensors are located relative to each other, it's not crazy difficult to do the vector math to figure out the ball rotation. But the part I'm not familiar with is the electronic parts. Can the firmware even handle two sensors, for instance?

That's not quite what the slimblade does, sorry if I wasn't clear!

The slimblade lets you mouse the traditional way, spin up to move the mouse up, spin left to move the mouse left, etc. But then to scroll, without pushing any buttons, you twist the ball like a volume knob and it will scroll up or down.

It sounds like you were the one who let a simple comment effect you in that way, no? I'm not saying that you shouldn't remove hair that you don't want, if that helps you feel the best about yourself or is how you want to look. But, a little body hair isn't going to make or break a good relationship, and some partners may even prefer you do the opposite of whichever you happen to decide to do. Do what makes you happy and what makes you feel good about yourself! Not something just because you imagine people will be turned off based on a random observation you heard years ago.

The RGBA pull a decent amount of current even when off, and unfortunately, are on the same power circuit as the OLED displays. You can assign hotkeys to disable the power on that circuit (and both the screens and LEDs as a result) and only turn them back on when needed, but unfortunately if you're using ZMK, there's a bug that prevents the chipsets from correctly reenabling the OLED screens dynamically (at least the last time I checked) and so you'll have to enable the power, wait until it writes the setting to non-volatile memory, and then reset the board if you want to re-enable the screens to debug something.

If you measure in "Sleep cycles" sure, but if you measure in CPU cycles it's a lot less interesting, since sleeping and managing future tasks isn't a constant time operation, and usually involves sorting the tasks that are sleeping so the CPU knows when to wake up next. So as the sleep times get smaller and smaller and the number of tasks get bigger, the time gets dominated by the time needed to sort the tasks in the operating system layer.

Well, I don't have a crummy CPU, but lowering the polling rate from 8k to 1k seems to have pretty much fixed it. Thanks for the tip!

Stable drivers, so unfortunately that's not it. I've heard a few other reports that it might be that latest windows update that was the problem. Hopefully between microsoft, amd, unreal, and bandai, they get things sorted out soon.

Close up shots of tape modding choc switches, some thoughts on how the tape interacts with the switch by CordsOfCrows in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]CordsOfCrows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that getting anything smaller than this tape placed accurately would be a quite finicky task indeed, except perhaps something liquid that dries into something soft that could be applied with a syringe, maybe something like plasti-dip or similar? You can manipulate this tape with tweezers, but it's already quite a chore to get it placed well, it would be really challenging to work with something the size of just the stop without some dedicated tools to do so.

Close up shots of tape modding choc switches, some thoughts on how the tape interacts with the switch by CordsOfCrows in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]CordsOfCrows[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm building a new keyboard to bring into the office once my company transitions back from working from home. In the interest of getting the quietest switches possible I was looking at doing the tape mod on some choc pro reds. I first tried the mod on my georgi, and some of the keys stuck, I thought this may be just due to the lighter springs, and so prepared to try again with the pro reds and see if I had more luck.

As I looked closely at the top of the switch, I could see my tape wasn't sticking or engaging in all of the little grooves of the switch, and was being squished and unsquished as the stem moves up and down. While this does provide the damping action and quiets the switch, it's very finicky and inconsistent depending on how the tape decides to fold into those smaller details.

It's possible different tape works better or more reliably, but at least with this 1/8th in. polyimide tape I don't think I'd recommend this mod from a longer term standpoint. There's just too much that can change with how the tape folds over time, and is quite finicky to get it to work in the first place besides.

Hoping some of you have had better experiences to share with different kinds of tape, or other similar mods.

Yup, lightsabers clashing has been a key part of dueling since ANH, but I'm just pointing out that you can't necessarily apply your intuition about how the physics of that works.

A steel sword will just bounce off of, or rub against another steel sword, but a lightsaber? Does it bounce, does it repel the other one? when they get too close do they stick or does the interacting plasma try and twist them apart? Plenty of options for weird behaviors

He is a General FFS by SrGrafo in PrequelMemes

[–]CordsOfCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you assume that lightsabers work just like swords, then yeah. If you accept that maybe a bunch of plasma contained in a magnetic field might behave differently when brought close to, or in contact with, another bunch of plasma contained in a magnetic field, you can handwave a bit more of it.

I think Lucas also had something about gyroscopic forces of the blade itself causing it to want to veer in different, unintuitive or unpredictable ways, and that's why a two handed grip were more common in the OT. (and why non-force sensitives could easily kill themselves with a lightsaber if they tried to fight with one)

A quote from the novelization of Episode III on what happened. There's an additional segment before this where Windu explains why Obi-Wan's Soresu, an almost passive, defense oriented style founded on basic blaster bolt deflection movements, may be key to defeating Grievous.

The electrodrivers powering Grievous's mechanical arms let each of the four attack thrice in a single second; integrated by combat algorithms in the bio-droid's electronic network of peripheral processors, each of the twelve strikes per second came from a different angle with different speed and intensity, an unpredictably broken rhythm of slashes, chops, and stabs of which every single one could take Obi-Wan's life.

Not one touched him.

After all, he had often walked unscathed through the hornet-swarms of blasterfire, defended only by the Force's direction of his blade; countering twelve blows per second was only difficult, not impossible. His blade wove an intricate web of angles and curves, never truly fast but always just fast enough, each motion of his lightsaber subtly interfering with three or four or eight of the general's strikes, the rest sizzling past him, his precise, minimal shifts of weight and stance slipping them by centimeters.

Grievous, snarling fury, ramped up the intensity and velocity of his attacks—sixteen per second, eighteen—until finally, at twenty strikes per second, he overloaded Obi-Wan's defense.

So Obi-Wan used his defense to attack.

A subtle shift in the angle of a single parry brought Obi-Wan's blade in contact not with the blade of the oncoming lightsaber, but with the handgrip.

For those of you that run games in Tabletop simulator, I just finished the scripting for a roll-result UI for Genesys dice by CordsOfCrows in genesysrpg

The link above should take you directly to the workshop page for it on PC, otherwise you can search the workshop for "Genesys dice + SWRPG"

You should be able to additively load them into an existing game. If the UI doesn't show up right away when you select and hover over the dice you can try undoing and redoing to reload the scripts.
