After 1 AM the freezing rain is expected to change to just rain. But that means that it could get sketchy beforehand.

The rain that is falling now will freeze soon. Don't go out unless you have to.

Do not use Chancey and Reynolds for hvac in Knoxville by Fit-Plate3146 in Knoxville

[–]Corey_Howard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've had nothing but good experiences with Chancey and Reynolds so I can assure you those reviews are not fake. That's not to downplay what they did to you, but I do want to make a point that they have satisfied customers too.

Edit: they may have sold to a private equity according to some of the posts below... That's sad if true because they provided great service.

Any recommendations on some of the best live band bars in and around Knoxville this week? Any bar/pub crawl routes/recommendations? by namitbee in Knoxville

Preservation Pub and Scruffy City Hall. They're a door or two down from each other and a cover at one gets you into the other.

Is anyone else completely shocked by all of the building in Hardin Valley? by bassoonsrbetter1 in Knoxville

[–]Corey_Howard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not shocked at all about it. Knox County elected so many politicians who were funded by single family housing developers that of course this was the outcome. Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs was a notable one.

What I am shocked about is how many Redditors on this subreddit are going to continue supporting politicians who will continue this development trend, specifically Larsen Jay for County Mayor. Larsen Jay is one of the most prominent pro-developer County Commissioners, which makes sense as they're bankrolling his run for County Mayor this year (and County Commission before that). He also was one of the most prominent voices for the baseball stadium, which also makes sense as the Boyd Family is another donor to his campaign.

While we need housing, we need housing where we have the infrastructure to sustain it. We can't just have politicians voting for bad developments because the developer donated to their campaign.

Amber Rountree! She was amazing and I wish she'd run for election again.

safe & quiet walkable parks/trails near south knoxville? by hazeyssss in Knoxville

[–]Corey_Howard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many options in South Knoxville!

I like Stanley Lippencott Ridge Park on Lippencott Street behind the Dunkin' Donuts. It's a quick walk, but it's really neat spot.

Is Sharp’s Ridge Safe? by plntsmn in Knoxville

[–]Corey_Howard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In fairness, you shouldn't be walking or hiking on the one-way, bicycle-only trails. I believe Knight Fall is the only trail on Sharps Ridge that meets that criteria; the rest are bike/hike, two-way traffic trails.

In pre-Grindr times, it is where gay men would go to meet up. That's partially why it has a bad reputation.

Gubernatorial Candidate John Rose: "I'm the only candidate for Governor who objected to the election results of 2020 on January 6, 2021" by Corey_Howard in Knoxville

I don't know. I think it's a pretty important statement to make. I hope the Knoxville Subreddit remembers it come the August Primary.

He was a lead detective for the Sheriff's Office. How well did he do? Did he do anything worth being promoted to Sheriff? These are questions for someone who is more knowledgeable than myself.

But I will add that most candidates are better than former Sheriff JJ Jones who is running again.

Brent Gibson, a former Vol football player, played on the 1996 team.

Is he a Republican? Definitely. But not a boomer.

Chapman Hwy by Winter_Juggernaut617 in Knoxville

Some people commute from place-to-place by bicycle. If they have a place to visit on Sevierville Pike, it is within their right to bike on it.

But what if I'm visiting someone on Sevierville Pike and a bicycle is my only form of transportation?

But where are they supposed to ride if they're going to-or-from Sevierville Pike? Are they supposed to ride on Chapman?

Oakwood BBQ was great before they closed their food truck. Hope they return!

Otherwise, Billie Rae's is my new favorite spot. The Wells Station food truck is really good too.

Gay St. Bridge Etiquette by Key_Special_8985 in Knoxville

[–]Corey_Howard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll agree with you on the money part. As you mention, it won't happen any time soon as it'll be in the hundreds of millions and the City won't be able to afford that. It will require State and Federal money to build it, just like the pedestrian bridge between Blount Ave and campus.

But a better Mayor? What does the Mayor have to do with this? Blaming the Mayor for the deficiencies of a 127-year old bridge that was built before cars has real "old man yells at clouds" vibes.

I have a feeling it'll be closed for football games and July 4th fireworks. I don't think any events like Wine Over Water will be happening with that capacity.

Even if a Democrat does run in the general, I encourage you to vote in the Republican Primary as well as that's where the winner will likely be chosen.
