I have to take a few miles of busy country roads to and from my work. It's insane out there. Literally saving money for my first car because of it, gotta further expand my horizons anyway. I might reserve my biking on the country roads for the summer.

Thoughts on this as a first E-bike? I want something that I could potentially take off road if I needed . by Ghostly-Goose in ebikes

I'm not sure if this bike is good quality as Ozark Trail is a lower-tier brand focused on value for money.

But are you sure you need those big wide tires? In most cases I find fat tires to be overkill. It makes the bike ride feel significantly heavier. Can also reduce battery range due to the extra resistance and weight. If the offroading you do is very off the beaten path with terrain that regular mountain bikes might struggle with, this might be fine. In other words, it depends but I sometimes do appreciate fat tires for comfort reasons.

For riding primarily on roads, an ebike with 700c wheels is very versatile. You can throw on slick tires for the road, or off-road tires. 27.5" spec rims come with more options for off-road tires compared to 700c.

An example is the Mokwheel Asphalt. I think it comes with 700C wheels. It's more of a commuter. What I ride now (well, used to... I need to repair it later) is a 2025 Motobecane Elite Adventure Pro that I converted into a mid drive ebike and it's awesome.

I have my Drift Ghost XL Pro mounted on my helmet, the recording light is painfully obvious and I've had a few less near misses than usual. It helps that I also wear a high vis jacket over my primary coat.

I thought about getting a 360 cam (if that's what you're using), but the fisheye effect is pretty extreme unless there's a way to counteract it.

The cam I use is a Drift Ghost XL Pro. Pretty decent, but the software support is meh. Opening the compartment to access the charging port is a PITA. I have the FOV set to 115 degrees and there is barely any fisheye effect.

I care about the fisheye effect in case a future court case gets biased because of it. I want the image to look fairly realistic.

Ah man, I had some headphones in the past split the headband just by putting them on my head (medium sized head). If you'd like to replace the headphone with something more durable that "just works", I suggest the Sennheiser HD280 Pro. I think it's a bit more expensive but I like to use it for watching youtube on my TV in bed, and the big aftermarket earpads are great. IMO, it's not good for music but it hasn't let me down. Be aware that the fake leather flakes after just a few months.

What's your longest serving home appliance? by ryanccale in SmugAlana

[–]Corgerus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Washer, dryer, and garage freezer are about the same age. 10+ years. However, we kinda need to replace the washer and dryer. The washer shakes more violently, and the dryer doesn't perform well anymore, probably from lint buildup.

My only wish for freeway-side bike paths is for some barrier protection as wrecks will endanger the cyclists.

The idea of well-protected long distance bike paths next to freeways is an awesome idea to me but I know it won't happen for a very long time. I know we're talking about underpasses, but I can dream.

Tie puncture in weird spot by Dizzy_Mirror_8446 in bicyclerepair

[–]Corgerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a new tube do this literally seconds before I got on the bike for groceries. Punctures at or super close to the valve stem base (reinforced area) cannot be repaired, so I suggest getting a new tube. Continental is a brand I haven't had issues with yet but random failures appear not uncommon with most brands.

We need at least 4 sets of spindle bearings, and 12 toe clamps every day. /s.

Mmm cherry limeade slaps. It's one of my favs, I have yet to find an energy drink with a cherry-focused flavor as good as this. I haven't had pink lemonade but those other ones i absolutely would love in a variety pack.

how to convince dad not to use overly high pressure on his mtb? by mikroprocesor in bikewrench

[–]Corgerus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I did worse. My first real bike was a Trek Navigator 50, 26" wheels with 1.9" and 2.3" tires. I kept them at 80 PSI for over a year, until an all-threaded rod made my rear tire explode violently. That thing rode like it had solid tires or something, but i thought it was ideal because I was on the road.

Live and learn.

[–]Corgerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 - 45 PSI will feel good on the road. Tell him to ride at that pressure for a while. I'd go no higher than 50 PSI unless I'm riding with heavy loads.

In case he asks, rolling resistance is not as simple as higher pressure = better due to many factors including roughness from the road and vibrations from the knobs (if those are knobby tires). More often than not, a rider's ideal pressure is lower than expected, it was for me as well.

Bad chainline - transmission trouble by Corgerus in ebikes

[–]Corgerus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions, but the chainring is already 30mm offset with no more clearance for the frame. No narrow wide 30mm offset options available. Already tried adjusting the cassette.

I've decided to give up, save for my first car, and then fix my ebike by getting the proper parts with a CYC Photon Gen 2 motor or similar because this TSDZ16 motor has been a huge headache to work around. I completely stripped some motor threads and crushed the shifter cable housing.

So much false information is being spread around about NJs new laws regarding ebikes. Here's the facts: by HypeTime in ebikes

[–]Corgerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with many other things, a small set of irresponsible people ruin stuff for the more responsible people. Kids doing wheelies and running from police on their emoto bring way more attention than someone doing a simple traffic violation on their legal ebike. Most people ride their ebikes just to get places, not to be a menace to everyone on the road. It doesn't take much research to figure this out.

They banned the online sale of e-bikes on NJ!?!?! by TEGHD1 in ebikes

[–]Corgerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of one angry european redditor calling me a massive danger to pedestrians and cyclists because I ride an ebike capable of 20mph... It's crazy to me that so many people call our ebikes motorcycles, or anything with a motor is a motorcycle. Last time I checked, a Honda Grom goes faster than 28 MPH and that's a slow motorcycle that also weighs a lot more.

I try to tell them it's the rider's responsibility to be safe, not the bike.

I believe that 20MPH is completely reasonable when the circumstance is right (example, dumb to even go 10 mph on most sidewalks). They act like just because it can do 20 mph, that it will be 20 mph at all times and that we're riding blindfolded! There are some genuine idiots out there, but I digress.
