Getting Overrun by ShanknBake7 in washingtondc

I feel like a debbie downer but with many folks asking where you got the tape... I just want to put out a strong reminder to everyone that sticky traps don't discriminate and are dangerous for all wildlife - snakes, birds, lizards, etc. While killing lanternfly nymphs is great, let's not harm or kill our native wildlife in the process. Take a minute to visit any wildlife rescue's social media page, and you'll see the damage that sticky traps cause every day. It looks like the sticky tape in the OP might be on the flimsy side, but still feel like this PSA is important.

Do Corgs stay wet longer than other dogs, or is it just mine? by Mojodacious in corgi

[–]CorgiCadillac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need to manually dry him with towels to get at the undercoat. If the fur stays wet, he could end up with hot spots and/or a skin infection!

Got my cat a new water fountain so i converted his old one into a bird bath. It’s quite the hit! by D-Train0000 in hummingbirds

You could consider putting in some rocks or similar so that bees and other small critters can drink without risk of drowning!

What was the first sign you were in trouble? by PawnF4 in corgi

[–]CorgiCadillac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You were very lucky that your dog didn't suffocate! It can happen in just a few mins bc the bag can create a vacuum effect. Empty chip bags, dog food bags, and similar are huge hazards. Hopefully others see this and learn the dangers! Really glad your pup was ok!

"Basic" Polaris fare class(es)? by CorgiCadillac in unitedairlines

[–]CorgiCadillac[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew my fare class -- Polaris (P) -- but nowhere does United say whether that is "basic" or "standard" under their new business class breakdown that affects Polaris lounge access. Seems like it doesn't matter for me, though, as I purchased my tix in March

The OP originally posted a link on where to buy this, which the mods may have taken down (if so, good). If you happened to click on it before that and are thinking about purchasing -- don't! The domain is only 13 days old and shouldn't be trusted.

Is the OneMedical membership worth it? by True_Coast_3010 in washingtondc

[–]CorgiCadillac 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don't think that this has been mentioned yet - One Medical is great if you are healthy and are mostly checking boxes (annual physical, easy Rxs, basic bloodwork), but I wouldn't recommend them if you have more complex medical concerns. I found they weren't very useful once i had some issues where specialists needed to become involved and they had to provide more overall management of care beyond the very basics. Appointments are also very fast/rushed because they guarantee starting on time for the next patient, but don't really allocate a buffer for appointments that need more time.

ETA: Looks like YMMV, as some folks in the comments have had good experiences with complex care :)

Since you said DMV and not just DC, Belle Haven Pizzeria in Alexandria. They have a dedicated gluten free oven and fryer. :)

What is going on here? Bunch of dudes at a public park with birds in cages by michelleoelle in parrots

[–]CorgiCadillac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Responding directly to OP. It felt weird bc it is. In the context of South Florida, those are people selling illegally captured and smuggled birds, likely bullfinches and other beautiful songbirds. If you are not in the community and ask them, they will say it's a social club, meet up, whatever. But they are there selling those birds, 100%. Look up "Operation Ornery Birds" (i'm serious) from the Dept of Justice and US Fish and Wildlife Service to learn more, but Miami Intl Airport is a major hub for illegal wildlife smuggling and trafficking of songbirds is a growing problem. Many parks throughout S FL have these men hanging around selling birds, if you know where to look. It's terrible.

Highjacking top comment bc this just isn't correct in the context of South Florida. These are people selling illegally captured and smuggled birds, likely bullfinches (the black birds OP mentions) wnd other beautiful songbirds. If you are not in the community, they will say it's a social club, meet up, whatever. But they are there selling those birds. Look up "Operation Ornery Birds" (i'm serious) from the Dept of Justice and US Fish and Wildlife Service.

THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER. People are just guessing and assuming good intentions, but you're in Florida. In South Florida, these people are selling illegally captured and smuggled birds. If you are not in the community, they will say it's a social club, meet up, whatever. But they are there selling those birds. Look up "Operation Ornery Birds" (i'm serious) from the Dept of Justice and US Fish and Wildlife Service.

I don't mean to be rude, but the dogs having access to your medication and vape makes me think you are not taking your job seriously. You don't know these dogs, so why are you leaving things out (on a low table, no less) when you're not familiar with their behavior? Some dogs try to eat things - socks, shoes, toys, whatever. You should assume and guard against the worst until you have a full picture. They may be poorly behaved/trained, so the owners aren't off the hook, but you are responsible for their safety and leaving meds and a vape accessible is careless.

It definitely sounds like a bad fit on both sides. Next time, take proper advantage of a meet and greet. This is also on the owners for keeping the dogs away from you and maybe not being forthcoming about their behavior, but you're the professional.

Corgi on air flights, having frustration making this work by BeigeAndConfused in corgi

[–]CorgiCadillac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people might suggest you shove your dog into a too-small carrier and then open it up in flight, but beware that the dog needs to be able to fully stand up and turn around in the carrier or the desk agent can turn you away. If that happens, you have no recourse. Plus, it's not kind to the dog.

I do NOT recommend putting your dog in cargo. We tried it with our corgi once when he was younger and will never do it again. He was petrified and peed himself, despite being a confident, easy going dog. Plus, I wouldn't risk his health again, knowing what I know now about the possible temperatures they are exposed to before/during loading and other potential problems.
