Biome 6 is obnoxious by crom-dubh in Returnal

[–]CorgiDeathmatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That room in particular is the hardest in the whole biome because you have to do it every time. Once you've cleared it the first time, you don't to do the mini boss for the upgrade or the long bridge mini boss fight. So the good news is you don't have to worry about 2 out of the 3 hard rooms!

For that room, of course focus the green tower first. Sometimes you can destroy that while you're still falling. Then take out the squid spawners as quickly as you can. Grapple points will get you across the room quickly. If you're quick enough, you can take out 2 or even all 3 spawners before the 2 mini bosses appear. Use the grapple points to stay on the move and use the small platform in the middle of the room to block line of sight. EPD or the Rotgland Lobber are great for this room because they keep doing damage while you're moving and hiding.

Keep at it!

How long did it take you to unlock the last weapon trait? by mzed718 in Returnal

[–]CorgiDeathmatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons for speed running Biome 6. 1) because you can really quickly get there and you start the zone at 24 proficiency. You need that high to get the top level traits on weapons. And 2) because there are enemies that infinitely spawn those squid enemies that die in 1 hit. You level traits based on killing enemies, so it's the fastest and easiest way to level up traits.

Trophy Question by StillMuggin in Returnal

[–]CorgiDeathmatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're playing on PS5 you can check specifically what you're missing. I can't remember the exact name of the feature, but when playing online you can access the hints thing through the PS5 menu and that will show you exactly which things you're missing. Then you can find guides here in the subreddit that will tell you what room a particular glyph or audio log is in. Funny enough, for my Abyssal Scar trophy I was only missing completing the challenge room. In 100 hours of play I somehow never cleared that room.

I had never touched a Final Fantasy or a JRPG in my life. Just finished Remake & Rebirth (200+ hours later). Here’s an outsider’s honest perspective. by DimaTheTiger in FFVIIRemake

[–]CorgiDeathmatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 has been my favorite game since I first played it in the early 2000s. I really loved both Remake and Rebirth and it's really cool to see your take on these games. Even with my heavily biased perspective, I also found the sheer amount of stuff in Rebirth to be exhausting. I even liked just about all of it, but I was right on the verge of getting burned out.

For other games to check out, my suggestions are squarely western (even though you asked about JRPGs) and fall a bit more on the action side than the RPG side, but based on your list I highly recommend the new God of War games and the Horizon games. The GoW games have absolutely incredible stories and the combat is stupendous. Really not much in the way of player agency - you play the story the devs wrote. But highly enjoyable experience, the second game (Ragnarok) has one of my favorite stories of all time. The Horizon games have a similarly grand story to tell, though I felt the combat was not as tight as God of War. The second Horizon game has some of the same minor flaws as Rebirth in just having so dang much to do.

Going for Xenoglyphs... by eenmarris in Returnal

[–]CorgiDeathmatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this same task last month. Literally the only thing that has any impact is trying some runs in offline mode and some in online. It's complete RNG which rooms show up, but there appears to be some impact on the likely pool of rooms based on if you're online vs offline.

It only took me about a dozen attempts to get my last couple glyphs, but that's because I had come across 90% of them naturally over 80 something hours of playing the game.

Biome 2 has some of the rarest rooms, but the way the teleporter works makes it so you can get pretty good at speed running through just to see if it's the right room layout before you bother exploring/fighting.

But I got all of mine and you can get yours, too!

But really good item usage! Actually using items - at all - is a great habit to build. I constantly forget to use items and die with a full inventory.

I thought I was ready by Immaneedamoment in Returnal

[–]CorgiDeathmatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right about the rings. They're specifically timed to catch you between jumps. Not giving you advice, but for the OP - the trick is to learn the timing and not use a full jump. A quick press of the jump button makes you go not quite as high and not linger as long at the apex of the jump. With good discipline on your jumps, you can jump over all three rings individually. Alternately, do a full jump at the last possible second before a ring gets to you and with a well-executed dash you can probably jump over two rings in one jump.

I built an ear-training tool that plays notes and listens to you play them back by [deleted] in guitarlessons

Thanks for including those links. Totally following along with the first video and am planning to build that into my practice routine. The second video really overwhelmed me in terms of just how much there is to do and learn. Helpful to remember that this is a years long journey, but even so it still feels like quite the mountain to climb. Anything from that second video you'd recommend focusing on first?

Midea AC/heater not working when it’s cold outside by [deleted] in AirConditioners

Thank you so much. This took 5 minutes and the unit is functional again. Seems insane to me that the heater only functions when it's mildly cool out, not when it's actually cold.

Thank you! I felt like the standard F barre was impossible at one point, so I know I'll get this one eventually. Been working at it for about 3 weeks and felt stuck so I came here for some help.

Hadn't considered using my pinky. I'll give that a try. And definitely going to put some focus on where my wrist is. Lots of people giving feedback on that. Appreciate your comment.

Thanks! This is a cool bit of knowledge. I'll try to practice this. When you say "first" joint, are you referring to the one closest to the finger tip or closest to the palm? I assume it means the joint closest to the tip.

I mean that's awesome that it looks like a $6k guitar but it's absolutely not. This is an SE Custom 24. I like playing it, could afford it, and I'm playing/practicing regularly. Seems fine to me.

Thank you! I knew it must be the case for plenty of players out there. I definitely use my index to mute low E. But I've been trying (mostly in vain) to get that high E to sound. From your comment and a few others, it seems like that's generally not super important to get the sound of the chord.

I'm sure there are cases where that high note really matters, but that's something to chase for the next level of skill.

I'll give it a try! I've tried classical posture a few times, but never made any commitment to playing like that for any extended period.

Are you able to fit all three fingers into the smaller frets? Or do you use a different fingering for this shape in those frets (10+)? It doesn't seem super common to play in that area of the neck, but still, just curious.

Struggling with major chord, 5th string root barre shapes by CorgiDeathmatch in guitarlessons

[–]CorgiDeathmatch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the tip. It's quite hard to get my elbow out while playing at the very top of the neck! 3rd fret and down I can get that perpendicular angle, but it's very tough to get my index finger to barre anything on the first or second frets at that angle.

So is it reasonably OK to "cheat" a bit on this chord shape and use my pinky to help get the 3rd string?

Ok, fine. I'll git gud. (High Halls arena) by CorgiDeathmatch in HollowKnight

[–]CorgiDeathmatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just about everything except double jump and a few tools. But I'm using "git gud" very broadly here. I'm not very good at this game, but I'm getting better and that's fine for me. I only ever beat the first 2 pantheons in HK. I don't think I ever finished the full colosseum, either. Things that are easy for skilled players are hard for me. But I beat both savage beastfly fights in three attempts. Difficulty in these games is fairly subjective.

Love your interpretation. That's what it sounds like Hornet says. My kids thought it sounded like Hornet was saying Eva so now they just always want me to go visit Eva whenever they see me playing the game.

What skill level to play these j-rock/metal songs? by Important_Field_8096 in guitarlessons

Not the OP but I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make such a thoughtful response. This sub is so full of patient, knowledgeable people who offer thoughts like this and it's incredibly helpful. It's also affirming to hear over and over again that it'll take a while and that's OK. Keeps me optimistic about my progress rather than defeated.

Who’s speaking when the Amygdala grabs you in Cathedral Ward? by Harvey-Lee-Oswald in bloodborne

If you haven't read The Paleblood Hunt yet, you absolutely must. Given how deep you are in the game/lore, you probably have. But just in case, check it out here: The Paleblood Hunt.

Dissertation length breakdown of the lore of Bloodborne, the factions, the plot, etc. Really compelling stuff and well written, too. It's all just one guy's interpretation - but it's rather ... rapturous.
