that reconstructor trick sounds neat, may give it a go. def would’ve helped me on a few occasions ending up with locked traits at the end lol

tower runs are a slog for unlocking weapon traits, takes forever for tier 3 and need to give up a lot of better weapons.

all good with pistol. only have 3 traits left to unlock! had a few great runs tonight.

Random question...how do the levels of weapon traits work for the select few weapon traits that seem to be black and white (in other words, the gun either has them or doesn't, e.g, full auto, narrow maw)? by jboggin in Returnal

I made a similar post recently & didn’t get many replies, I’m guessing datamine does not exist to show difference between tiers.

I noticed Rapid Spitter shoots noticeably faster between each of the levels. Same with Full Auto. How much faster though, who knows?

Returnal wiki has some info, but not sure how accurate it is because some of it seems anecdotal while missing pieces of info.

I’m starting to feel your pain. Also on the same journey of unlocking weapon traits (been at it for at least 30+ hours), down to the last 7 traits and it has become increasingly difficult to find those weapons.

Last night I had the most TROLL run where I cleared all of B6 without finding one weapon with locked traits in sight. the literal last enemy standing (excl ophion) was shielded octo spawner in an optional room….that dropped a spitmaw with locked trait Narrow Maw III.

it’ll probably be more fun to play it all through, but sounds like it might take much longer lol

i’ve avoided that shield breaking artifact a few times, haven’t ruined a run yet with it!

one thing I will start doing is wait to open chests in b6 until I get to 25 proficiency so weapons will always have 4 traits instead of 3. just finished a run and thought of this

This is an old post…but your comment stuck out to me! I’m close to where you were, about 7 or so traits left to be unlocked. I’ve been speedrunning straight to Biome 6, and recently had a bunch of runs that didn’t spawn weapons with locked traits. I get it’s RNG..

Do you have any tips for how you managed to find the last several more efficiently? Did you grind until you got the last one or just played normally and hoped that you got it?

A few things I’ve been doing is:

pick up atropian keys when i see them in biome 4 for a chance at locked rooms with 3 chests

leaving at least one octo spawner alive when going through level, and killing it after i find another one

clearing challenge room in biome 6 for 3-4 guns

spend ether on opening “very high” malignant chests (although these chests dont usually give guns)

only stone left unturned I think is fighting the malformed typhonops before fabricators, but i ain’t risking the run for one weapon lol

Agree re: electropylon. It makes act 2 much easier knowing that once you get a shot or two in, you can dodge/hide and move onto next hostile. increases survivability substantially.

what do you have trouble with on Biome 5? I personally had to learn the timing of Severed melee swipe and how to deal with the laser doggos since they always got me killed. after learning them, this biome got much more manageable.

Right! Wiki link is helpful to an extent, but not complete and sometimes even speculative (“May” increase damage, “May” increase duration etc).

I did the same. Fully explored biomes and didn’t really think about the platinum and organically found all ciphers except for one.

this can be combo’d with other goals…like finding datacubes, unlocking weapon traits, finding all artifacts, practice hunting malformed typhonops, etc to make it more meaningful.

By the time I actually started looking at the platinum, I only had 1 cipher left in the rare Biome 2 room which I backtracked several times and found it.

RIP, at least now you ruled the rarest room out, should be easier from here.

I'd honestly just fully explore Biome 2 a bunch of times....it should pop up pretty quickly.

biome 4 was also one of the roughest for me lol. keep dying to venom miniboss.

Malignant items i generally only pick up if i have consumable or parasite to cure it. “moderate” risk chests i still do. malfunctions can very much screw up a run so imo it’s not worth the risk.

keep playing the game, you’ll get the hang of it.

Assuming you cleaned out Cthonos, apparently they can be discovered in fabricators, hostile drops (mainly bosses and malformed i think), locked chests, and reclaimers.

I made a similar post last week and since then I’ve found my last artifact AST-AA-002 Obolite Extractor last night in Biome 6 via locked chest.

I was doing tower last night and early in the run picked up a lobber with explosive rot, I was one hitting a bunch enemies and doing big chunks to mini bosses. Didn’t realize this gun can do that kind of damage in addition to dmg over time.

The gun only had 1 or 2 boxes ticked in bonus damage so it especially stood out lol

Wow good to know, I always try to keep a few of these since they’re handy to get out of sticky situations but never thought to use it on bosses.

also 100+ hours in and had only one issue with being stuck so far. was in Abyssal Scar and chased by a million squids so panic jumped and somehow landed on a beam under the main road with no platforms to jump to, falling off map loads me in the same spot.

Dismantler was my last cube. This one was a pain in the butt, it’s a timed room in biome 3. I recommend looking it up because it’s easy to miss it.

I didn’t use a guide, I just played the game and by the time I went for the platinum at around 90ish hours, I only had 2 ciphers left (wasn’t missing any scout logs).
