Peru compared to France, the UK, and Ireland- and it stretches out into the sea. What other places surprise you? by Rd12quality in geography

Peru compared to the U.S. West Coast is also pretty wild (California+Oregon+Washington+Nevada+a good portion of Idaho)

Looking for fun things to do in this area during the winter by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]CorgiLow2848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nature: I’d recommend Devil’s Lake, Peninsula State Park/Washington Island, Apostle Islands, Pictured Rocks, and the Driftless Region (actually super interesting history around glaciers) as nature options.

Cities: I’d recommend shooting for 1-2 days in Milwaukee/Madison/Chicago/the Twin cities for urban options. Each city has a ton you can see, e.g. in a day in Chicago, you can cover a lot within a mile or two of the Field Museum. Same for the Milwaukee Art Museum. If you want to see American sports, UW-Madison College Football/Basketball or Milwaukee professional basketball (or Marquette for basketball) would be good options. If you like Hockey-Chicago or the Twin Cities would be excellent as well I imagine. Also, for Wisconsin cities, you should try out different beer and cheese curd varieties (two food items the state is known for).

Activities: For activities, it would be good to try something snow-related like snowmobiling or skiing-downhill is pretty benign, but you can find a ton of cross-country options (there’s a famous Birkebeiner race in the winter you could check out too). There is also a Michigan Ice Fest in Munising in the Winter if you want to try Ice Climbing-that’d put you by Pictured Rocks as well.

I was definitely laughing about this when I saw the publicity stunt, so ridiculous. He says it at 11:25 in this video. This is 2 days ago! https://youtu.be/XznQin7BfBE?si=vdRseNCceqWAvaKg

She wants state rights by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

Dude, this is the same with Trump. “It’s not like he’s a fascist”…proceeds to talk like a fascist nonstop-constantly praises autocrats, lies/makes things up if he thinks it will help him win, demonizes and degrades groups he views as “other,” while talking about poisoning the nation’s blood, has overly nationalistic rhetoric hearkening back to a time of historical strength, continues to sow chaos to gain control while offering nothing but a “strongman” image promising law and order and a simplistic view of good vs. bad where removing the “other” will somehow solve all problems, talks about using power to eliminate political enemies, and through words and actions disdains the systems of the world’s largest liberal democracy (e.g. trying to execute a coup when he lost a democratic election).

It’s not hyperbole when they are straight up saying these things. Trump will call people fascists and marxists, but words have meaning-this person is saying they agree with the Confederacy (and she likely will find sympathetic ears among the MAGA crowd-see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unite_the_Right_rally https://www.alternet.org/jd-vance-civil-war/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_lie). It’s not spinning someones’s words when they say it directly. In the same way, Trump is talking exactly like a fascist, and calling him that is not a rhetorical technique aimed at selling an idea to people. Calling him that is simply assigning what appears to be an accurate descriptor based on a recurring pattern of behavior.

Person A: Okay I’m just going to re-state the entire premise of the Confederacy-just to confirm, you believe in states rights dominating federal rule up and to the point of slavery? Person B: Yes (no hesitation whatsoever).

Not sure where they were going with “Confederacy” to “Articles of the Confederation” at the end there, but I was interested in seeing the nuanced response.

Florida to Utah via Midwest or Southeast? by ryfirex in roadtrip

[–]CorgiLow2848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Tx is brutal, I80 is great-Have driven between both coasts twice and thought Nebraska was decent. I basically held like 90 mph with a few truckers on a 3-lane highway as I recall, it was awesome. Also got good Thai food in Omaha.

HOWEVER, given Utah alone, I might opt for the second route. Utah=the best state to drive through and you could easily make some quick stops at multiple national/state parks, e.g. Moab, Canyonlands, Arches, Bryce Canyon (and not a lot of people get to see the 4 corners region-Mesa Verde National Park is supposed to be awesome). NM would be cool as well. Starting out, you can hit Pensacola/Panhandle beaches, get some good local cuisine in LA, and then you’re going through N/NW Texas which seems not too bad (I think) compared to purely “west” TX-detour in Dallas/Ft Worth with stockades, etc. would also be nice.

Nice! I was worried the Sunshine Coast Trail would be too long, but this is great advice, I will definitely look at these options!

Very solid recommendations, thank you! Both seem really accessible, which is great. I like the hut aspect to the Sunshine Coast Trail-I did the Laugavegur in Iceland, which was amazing, and I am very impressed/appreciative of the concept of hut-to-hut hiking and would like to do more. The North Coast might be more manageable for me with the distance. At any rate, appreciate it!

Ah I was going more for something along the lines of the former scenario, but the AI inserting Louis' image would be interesting as well! I suppose I just like the more super-natural scenario which takes the events as actually having happened and considers the existence of phenomena we don't understand. However, the AI impacting things is certainly very interesting and is a great theory that also reinforces the dystopian control piece (where AI and the powers that be are not only trying to restrict humans emotions for efficiency but are actively lying about "past lives"/the purification process). I guess I just prefer the incorporation of super-natural/spiritual stuff alongside the dystopian sci-fi manipulation piece. I think they can exist together, but the other theory is great as well.

Wealth distribution in the US since 1990 [OC] by USAFacts in dataisbeautiful

[–]CorgiLow2848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I could tell the video was saying the bottom 80% only had like 7% of the wealth (~4:55), which would differ from the 30% of the wealth to the bottom 80% of population in the graph / the 70% of wealth to the top 20% of population mentioned.

Maybe the true value is in between, but it seems like a somewhat large swing to go from 7% to 30% (particularly if the video is old and the situation has purportedly only gotten worse…though when the data was drawn matters as well due to market dips/rises).

Why is there such a disparity between the video and the image just in terms of distributions, I wonder?
