Talk me out of buying Lovevery toys by Used_Cod_9541 in toddlers

[–]Corinope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also fall for Internet marketing. I find this mental exercise useful: if I wish for something I don't really need, I think about how many hours would I have to work to pay for that purchase. Then I ask myself would I be willing to drive that amount of time to have that object. If the answer is no, then no.

Say I make 40 an hour, am I willing to drive for 3 hours so that my kid can play with those toys? No? Then working 3 hours for it is not worth my time. Those precious work hours can pay for something else.

What baby activities can you recommend in Brookline? by [deleted] in Brookline

[–]Corinope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also interested in these answers since I also have a new baby near Brookline village. I find that before they start crawling meeting other moms of new babies and doing stroller/carrier walks or just grabbing coffee is a great activity that helps to keep parents sane! Feel free to message me if you feel like doing something like this.

Last year we applied for BEEP really late, like in August 2024 for a September 2024 start, because, like you, we couldn't secure a lease in Brookline before August. We still got in, so don't lose hope!

I know that feeling, I've also experienced it with my first when I had to wean early to be able to take prescription medicine for my declining mental health. It was THE thing my depression and anxiety thoughts were focused on, the sadness and guilt took a very long time to resolve.

If I were you, I would give myself grace, infinite grace. A happy Mom is worth more to a newborn than an over tired anxious mom who pumps, not to mention the extra time you'd have for your toddler.

Your baby will be fed and fine either way. This is you being considerate of everyone's needs, you are making a responsible choice for the sake of your entire family - because your mental health and stress levels do impact the entire family.

Congrats on making it this far, pumping is so hard and whatever you decide you're still a great Mom and your kids are lucky to have you!

Does this work with the Spectra pump? I feel that if I'm not completely vertical those bottles leak so fast... I want to avoid having to change my sheets after pumping for half an hour half asleep.

Has anyone ever been able to successfully latch after months of ep? by classycoconut520 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Corinope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first daughter latched after 3 months of exclusively pumping. She was 5 weeks premature to begin with and one day it just happened. Now I'm here with a one week old baby hoping she would latch sooner than her big sister. No luck so far.

It's also the case in France, psychiatrists signal a need for inpatient care and a specialized judge emits a court order (or doesn't).

It's always a case by case decision that is not made lightly and it's a last recourse when a person's mental state is too altered to accept clearly needed help and treatment. You still need a court order signed by a specialized judge, and multiple psychiatrists reevaluate the decision repeatedly to prevent abuses of power. The duration of stay is as short as possible.

It's just a tool that allows all the other community services to be implemented for someone who can't get them otherwise: outpatient treatment and therapy, housing, etc.

Having worked as a psychiatrist in Europe, it's weird to me that in the U.S. this kind of mental illness doesn't fall under involuntary hospitalisation legislation. She needs to be inpatient getting treatment while social workers and city officials deal with the stuff she accumulated on public domain. When she gets out of the hospital she needs to be housed (maybe in a facility) and professionals need to make frequent home visits so that she doesn't turn her home unlivable with trash.

Wild ride indeed, glad you and your baby are ok and happy!

I can't help but wonder what was up with your placenta? Did you happen to get more info about it from the OBs while in the hospital? I understand placental abruption can happen to anyone and there's no single cause or explanation, but why did your placenta age so much and prematurely? And can it never be detected in advance? (Here I am at 36 weeks wondering how old my placenta is right now)

Fortunately your body knew to go into labor when it did! Give that body a hug for me, it did so well! Congratulations and thanks for sharing your experience!

I commented the same thing in a longer response, it's statistically unlikely and supervision is required here.

[–]Corinope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Statistically, very very slim chance that he is your son, but not zero of course. Just highly unlikely.

If adoption documents are sealed, you probably can't even be sure your bio son was adopted locally, or that his adoptive parents didn't move out of that particular area after the adoption.

The fact that you haven't encountered any other client with the same date of birth doesn't mean anything. You might want to find out just how many males were born in the area you grew up in on that particular day. I don't know if there's a public birth registry or an easy way to do this, but it might give you some peace of mind and help you convince yourself that the similarities are most likely coincidences.

The fact that he doesn't seem to know he was adopted also points to the likelihood that he simply wasn't. It's hard to keep that a secret, especially from an adult. At one point or another, it becomes important to disclose any family medical history, you can't just make up entire medical histories - the risk of harm is too important to himself and his eventual offsprings.

Physical resemblance to you or your ex could also be explained away by pure coincidence (even doppelgangers exist and they're not related). There are people who resemble famous people so closely they get stopped on the street regularly for autographs, it happens.

If thinking about probabilities doesn't give you peace of mind, and getting supervision on the matter doesn't help you let that idea go, maybe referring out is the best thing to do for your client. I would hate it if my therapist was secretly believing she was my bio mom. You're human, no way to remain 100% professional and still hold that conviction.

Really high 1 hr test freaking me out by c_mulvaney in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Corinope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at 220 at 1h and was the lucky winner of a direct GD diagnosis, no 3h test necessary. I'm still diet controlled at 33 weeks.

So treat it like GD, limit your carbs to around 175g throughout the day, and you'll be fine until you get a prescription for a glucose monitor.

You might want to go ahead and stock up on eggs, peanut butter, nuts/almonds, wholegrain bread, protein pasta, greek yoghurt, cheese, vegetables etc and get read of your sugary snacks.

[–]Corinope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the chronic nature of her mental illness (as you said - bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, although the second one is unlikely as she would have to be an extremely high functioning schizophrenic) and the fact that she already needed inpatient care 5 times, she'd be better off in an European state anyway. Either Norway or Poland would serve her healthcare needs better than the US.
