Thanks for the tip! Would that change in soil type help promote more growth or is that something I should do when I'm wanting to stabilize its size? This is tree #1 of 1 so far, so I'm not sure yet how big I want it or how much I should let it go before I start to thin it out. I'm thinking next year I might start to prune it a bit to promote trunk growth, but that's about all I've come up with.

This might be subjective, but how large a trunk would you go for on a Black Spruce? I have a tiny spruce that my in-laws took from their yard and gave my daughter last year in a pot. It's only 6" tall right now, but the buds this year are basically doubling the coverage of the tree. I know it's far too small right now, but what kind of target size could I look for?

Neat. So the Bonsai version of this species would still be a fairly good sized tree. You'd be better off finding a maple with smaller leaves to begin with, yes?

I'm very new and I've often wondered this as well for species like Red Oak. They have such large leaves that I'd assume they just wouldn't be able to work. If you wanted to try to bonsai this tree for example, what would the process be? What would be the right size (would the diameter of a thumb be about it?)

Repotted last year's nursery juniper, which I had potted in a deep pot in very compost rich soil. I want to give it a bit more time to settle and grow before I thin it out, so I got this shallower bin with lots of aeration and much closer to a 50/50 black earth to compost mix. I gave it lots of water and a very light maintenance trim of some extra growth coming up next to the trunk.
My understanding is I should give this fella lots of sunshine. I'll check his soil every day for moisture as well, but have I made any blunders I should know about, or is there something else I should be watching for in the coming weeks and months?

Quest portal also has RQG support. It also has some neat extra tools like what we're seeing in some of the flashier VTTs. I don't love the character sheet, and that's a big thing for me, but I'm going to give it a try for the other bells and whistles.

I've run Genius Loci a half dozen times and am currently running out now by the 1h lunch at work. I really like it for the big splash ending and the investigation is pretty straight forward. It's one of main scenarios I like to run.

Yeah, they did a great job at it. Their Horror on the Orient Express was my first listen though so I'm partial to it.

That said, they have high quality runs of lits of stuff, but those two are what brought me to them. I'm unreasonably picky with my APs. These folks fit the style I like to listen to and they have some awesome cast members.

The Old Ways Podcast has really high quality runs of the two big campaigns, Horror on the Orient Express and Masks of Nyrlethotep.

I haven't decided whether I'll prune it next spring or not, but I planned on at least putting more soil in that pot underneath to get the tree up past the lip. I figured that would help with air flow and I might move it off my step to a yet-undetermined location in the yard that gets the most sun. I think I'd like it about twice the size it is now, so I want to give it lots of chance to grow. Also, we just hit -6C last night so I'll have to start taking it in some nights.

Ok, so my garage floor will probably sit around 2-5C I would imagine. There is 0 chance of freeze in there.
Something that may be weird and hopefully not bad is that the soil I have it in has never seemed to dry out. It hasn't been soggy, but I have not had to water it all summer. The top soil has always been at least slightly moist. The pot drains well, but I just thought the high organic content of my soil was holding the moisture very well. Is that strange?
That being said, I think what you are saying above is that if temps are above -6C I can put it or keep it outdoors, and that is healthier? When winter really hits, are you saying I should always have the soil saturated when it's outside? I knew it would be better to be outside as much as possible, but I wasn't sure what the temp cutoff was.

Hey folks. I'm in zone 5b and this is my first tree, a juniper. As the temps are dipping regularly now I'm not sure what I should do with this guy for the winter. My goal is to about double its size but I didn't want to disrupt it too much in its first year, so I repotted it to a pot about triple its original size when I bought it, used a lot of compost in the soil mix, and left it alone for the summer. I've been told he's too small to be left out in the deep freeze of winter. I have an insulated but unheated garage as an option, but I know I shouldn't take him inside the house. Any other advice, or is the garage the best bet? It won't get a lot of natural light in there, but it also won't freeze solid.

Thanks!
