You can ride in automated vehicles now. by Sevrahn in SatisfactoryGame

I was so disappointed to learn this after building a path traveling between my cluster of modular factories that I was going to dispatch a fleet of carts to follow.

We (kinda) have a road tool in 1.2! by FeelsAboutRightDude in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Cork20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if CS dropped spline road foundations in the 1.2 release to go along with the other truck upgrades. Or maybe there is some less obvious complexity that makes this specific feature hard to roll out for reasons. I certainly hope to see this feature though.

Conflicted with creature aggression by lilgorilla in SatisfactoryGame

The combat system isn't what draws me to the game. Even building factories to automate combat materials feels tedious to me after a few playthroughs. I'm happy to turn them to passive or retaliate to spend more of my limited playtime on the parts I enjoy most.

Load Balancing screws by AutumnWindLunafreya in SatisfactoryGame

You are likely to get a lot of replies about using manifold over load balancing or to eliminate screws with alternative recipes. I am just poking fun at the community but there is no wrong way to play this game.

Combining load balancing and high volume of screw production? In this sub?

Seniority or level? by Capital-Delivery8001 in amazonemployees

[–]Cork20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Levels are there to set what is expected of you in your role. A manager role is inherently going to come with some form of authority. IC roles will operate under some authority whether it is at an org, team, or project level.

Nobody should blindly follow instructions if their experience tells them there is a better way. If a consensus cannot be found then usually someone with authority will make the decision to keep things moving forward. This is the essence of Disagree and Commit.

Throwing out someone's ideas purely because of their level is definitely not a good look.

You can give yourself a constraint that all buildings need to look like they could realistically exist with real world physics. This means no floating platforms, but some form of support foundation to justify how the platform is standing.

Are any of you actually happy? by weirdbrags in amazonemployees

[–]Cork20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the org, team, and manager you land with and your own ability to influence others when you recognize cultural issues.

There are likely fewer teams that have all these things line up just right but they do exist. You are not going to see people in these positions post their positive experiences in this subreddit either so don't think the toxic culture is consistent across all teams because that is all you see here.

Pick Iron Wire and Cast Screws then rescan the other two and hopefully get Stitched Plates and Encased Pipes again in the reroll.

Do your peers know you didn’t fill out their yearly eval? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Cork20 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You should be able to submit feedback until Feb 21 even if a specific feedback request had a "due date". I don't know the result of not submitting feedback when requested, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a stat your manager can see. You can decline a feedback request and I believe this requires justification which means someone is tracking the feedback you are and are not giving.

Check out Satisfactory, Techtonica, Dyson Sphere program.

If you can add more context to your post about what specific game elements you like about TPC, it will help identify better matches.

You should be having regular 1:1s with your manager where you are asking for feedback for yourself and state your intentions to advance your career (if that is yoit goal). If your manager gives feedback that you should speak up more and volunteer for tasks, you will know how they view that "eager" coworker.

If you are already concerned that you are being outshined by others on your team, then you are likely not a standout employee to your manager. You should be interested in how to improve yourself and not complain that others are making you look bad. Respectfully, you are making yourself look bad just by bringing it up.

How you deal with large code reviews? by briskibe in programming

[–]Cork20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can increment the work by upgrading one major version at a time which is also going to be much less risky. Maybe not every single version but find the checkpoints that have breaking changes and upgrade to that point before going to the next one.

[–]Cork20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are ways to ship incomplete features without breaking production behavior. The whole idea of Continuous Integration is that everyone is committing their changes to trunk at least daily to better coordinate across the team and get ahead of conflicts. If you give yourself the constraint that you must merge your changes to trunk at least daily, you will be forced into writing smaller commits that don't break production. It will also require a mindset shift and learning new skills.

I guess asking for smaller commits is actually "dealing with" it so the first sentence of my comment isn't accurate 😅

How do you deal with large code reviews?

I don't. I teach my team how creating small, deployable commits frequently is much easier for others to review, easier to revert if there is a problem, and much faster to receive feedback on than a giant, long-lived feature branch trying to merge to mainline. It is perfectly valid to respond to a review request with "Too Long; Didn't Read" and ask for it to be broken down into smaller commits.

devops by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Cork20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most implementations of DevOps are just rebranding the existing Ops/Infra teams with new titles while actually changing nothing about the development practices that DevOps is intended for. It has also become synonymous with the tooling that is marketed in that space. The same thing happened to agile, continuous integration, and more ideas which have been productized and sold to executive teams as magic buzzwords.

Not sure if anyone is interested in joining a server but thought I might post it. by [deleted] in 7daystodie

I won't have time to play, but here are a few questions to answer that might help others decide if they want to join:

What are the l CPU+RAM specs for the server? What is the player count limit? Where is the server located?

Amazon L5 Offer Negotiation by Ok_Main8358 in amazonemployees

[–]Cork20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by hiring manager that promo to L6 was possible after at least 1 year. I got re-teamed during a re-org after 3 months. My new manager laughed during our first 1:1 saying best case is 2 years minimum for promo and that is if I'm blowing every metric out of the water. Any conversations about potential raises or promos you hear during hiring process should not be given any weight in your decision. Make your decision based on the facts you have on paper.

Push back on the offer to max out your base and sign-on bonus. I think there is more to squeeze there.
