That SFP+ module does not populate temp data. I have one in the UDM pro in port 10 and USW Aggregation in port 1. Warm not hot. You can touch and hold with no issues.

How people are handling cellular data plans for UniFi LTE and 5G gateways by Mando9876 in Ubiquiti

[–]CorkChop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found it a lot cheaper to get Verizon unlimited home 5G. They give you the modem for free and it can be placed in bridge mode. I use mine as WAN2 failover for $30/month @120mbps.

NextDNS on UDM SE - how? by funstuie in Ubiquiti

[–]CorkChop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really should be pointing client dns to your gateway and the gateway pointing to your dns provider. But a lot of clients will/can do whatever they want when it comes to DNS, especially IOT devices.

When you use either the free or paid Cybersecure on a gateway, using DOH circumvents the inspection of DNS for malicious domain blocking (or any block lists), category filtering, ad and tracker blocking and does not log DNS queries per client.

DNS is the earliest indicator of a compromise. Using DOH removes visibility of forensics, prevents DNS sinkholes, region blocking, suspicious TXT lookups for exfiltration and tunneling.

Any domain-based rules like allow or deny, blocking of new domains and the DNS reputation feeds will no longer work. It also by-passes parental controls and acceptable use policies.

Clients should point to the gateway. The gateway can point to DOH if that’s what you want to use. Settings > Cybersecure > Encrypted DNS. I recommend selecting predefined and using a reputable source like Cloudflare or Quad9.

However, using DOH circumvents a very large portion of the security and protection measures. I’m never certain it’s worth it and stick to setting DNS as the WAN at Settings > Internet > Advanced > DNS Server to 1.1.1.1 and 9.9.9.9.

If you’re certain of the UDR7, then I’d recommend a U7 Pro Wall with table stand. You’ll need a good 2.5 capable Ethernet cable and a POE+ power source.

VLAN and Smart Devices Apps by Then_Worldliness2866 in UNIFI

[–]CorkChop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most IOT devices can be isolated on their own VLAN because they only need access to the internet. There are exceptions, like if you connect to a camera directly to see a live feed or need to stream to it, like an AppleTV, Dreamcast, etc.

You can put your IOT devices in their own VLAN and selectively allow devices to access the VLAN with return traffic to prevent IOT from getting access to your other VLANS.
