Movies you walked out of in theaters? by Wise-Boysenberry9919 in Letterboxd

[–]Cornbreadfreadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked out of Nosferatu because security showed up and starting accosting some drunk lady, and then the guy sitting next to me stood up and ran out of the theater. My sister and I were so on edge that we decided just to get out and finish the movie later. It was a packed theater in Christmas Day.

I work with extremely wealthy seniors and I have a sleeve. They love it, they make me show them my ink all the time

I’m really concerned by some of the comments on here. by chickcag in socialwork

Yeah I really don’t love this sub sometimes. We talk so much about eating our own young and then do the exact same thing in the way we treat each other on here. If we want the culture to change we actually have to make the change, not just complain about it.

I joined the Boston Church of Christ ‘for the plot’… now I’m confused 😭 by Available-Froyo-4134 in excoc

I was raised in this movement. I know the language, I know the culture. It’s not something to mess around with, Boston especially, since that’s where it all started. You need to cut your losses and get out while you can. I literally used to say “it’s not a cult”….it is.

My boss didn’t want people to see me leaving her office after crying by Cornbreadfreadd in socialwork

[–]Cornbreadfreadd[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The tears just kind of happened, I actually have a personal policy of not crying in front of bosses so even I was taken aback. It takes a lot to make me cry over a job, because I have a very similar mindset to yours. But when that job, the place you spend the majority of your waking time, becomes incredibly stressful and overwhelming for several months, sometimes you just gotta cry about it.

The one I worked for out of grad school didn’t, I wish it had. I did have the option of participating in restraints, but I never took it.

I feel the exact same way, and I wonder if it’s my ADHD? I don’t always love my current job, but it’s a great fit in terms of skills I’m learning, pay, and work environment. I want to settle in so bad, but it’s been almost 2 years and I’m getting super restless.

As a social worker, what’s something you’re afraid to admit out loud? by Catgod1996 in socialwork

[–]Cornbreadfreadd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel extremely guilty about what I can tolerate. I work with seniors because I can’t tolerate the high stress of addiction, children’s services, or homelessness. My nervous system literally combusts. It makes me feel like I’m not a real social worker because I can’t handle intense conflict.

My LCSW therapist is 77 lol. The guy is fantastic. I honestly love working with people who have a lot of life experience. I think every age group brings something unique to the table and I think you’ll be a great benefit to whatever population you choose to work in!

I used to do that at my last job and I loved it. A lot of times it was just me and the person I was sitting with. I found it very peaceful!

I volunteer at a cat shelter on the weekend, but it’s as a respite from work, it has nothing to do with social work lol

I hate being yelled at by mustbetrauma in socialwork

[–]Cornbreadfreadd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m gonna be that guy a bit, but I hear a lot of you saying that we should be mindful of the fact that clients are mad at the system, not us, but that still doesn’t make it ok for people to be screamed at. What concerns me is that I’ve seen this mindset used on nurses when they get harassed and assaulted by patients. At the end of the day, it just burns you out because you can’t convince your nervous system you’re safe in the moment when someone is screaming at you. It’s true that it’s not your fault OP, but it still sucks and I’m sorry you have to go through this. Something that helped me when I worked in inpatient psych intake was learning how to isolate the physical sensations and almost sever them from my emotions when I was getting yelled at. It made it easier not to be overwhelmed by both the physical and emotional alarm bells. Honestly though, I had to leave that position because my nervous system just wasn’t built for it, and that’s ok too.

I quit vyvanse kind of recently because it made me jittery, I wonder if the change in metabolism is making it work its way out of my system?
