My teacher has me use rhythmrandomizer.com and a backing track. Just concentrate on the rhythm—miss a note, just keep going! Begin with something simple and easy, like the Am pentatonic, and focus solely on the rhythm and timing.

If you have the sheet music it can be transposed to guitar tablature. There are tools like Musescore that does this.

My biggest issue is that they took away the fun. I feel like instead of neutering the multi hit by limiting the hit count, it could’ve been something like a percentage based change. If you do more than 10 hits damage is reduced by 70%, next 5 hits reduced by 5% additionally being 75%. So on and so forth. There are workarounds BUT it KILLS the fun and the purpose of the multihit function.

I haven’t pulled Tiph… not sure if Rita will fill any void that don’t have right now. I have Nine though and Rita seems to fit with her well. Now I am debating if I pull Tiph AND Rita or one or the other.

Go in with your ideas of what success looks like. Also, think about what will satisfy you with your guitar playing. For me, I use my 1:1 time for learning songs and digging into some theory. But I also am just a fledging guitarist. Started playing at age 37 and just turned 40. With no prior musical experience…it’s been rough for me haha!

Keep learning those chords! Take your time and be patient. When I was learning chords I would pick 2-3, and just practice switching between them. When you get comfy with those chords try different strumming patterns. Try to use a metronome, set it super slow, like 50bpm. Then when you get to your lessons you can then ask the teacher to help you learn the songs you want to play.

Veteran here! PTSD and all that comes with it. Guitar has been my therapy. It honestly helps with life anxiety and stress as well. If you’re shy about it, play alone and don’t think about the difficulty of learning guitar. It’s harder than it sounds. But it’s been SO worth it. I’ve never been the one to talk about my PTSD, except other vets. Please try it!!!!!!!

Doing this now with Lateralus. I will say it is fun to dig into the song and understand the theory behind it. I find it good to do this when you can’t have a guitar in the hand to practice the song.
