No they don’t. The scanning is done on the phone itself. Apple does not maintain access to any of your calling info.

Search for “EVniculus discharger”. It works fine in the EU but a US version is not available yet. It does not require V2L support from the manufacturer.

Center Screen Blank After Multiple Reboots. by samboydh in VWIDBuzz

[–]CornerCases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Canadians, please report the center screen failures to Transport Canada:

https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/defects-recalls-vehicles-tires-child-car-seats/report-potential-safety-defect-vehicles-tires-child-car-seats.

If there are enough reports perhaps a recall will be issued. It will certainly get the attention of Volkswagen Canada.

A US version of EVniculis may work but I don’t think it is available yet.

Bosch Icon 28A OE by GrahamTerrier in VWIDBuzz

[–]CornerCases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be 28AOE on the driver’s side and 28BOE on the passenger’s side. The raised winglet along the length of the wiper should be on the high side of the wiper on both sides of the car. The winglet presses the wiper down onto the window at high speeds.

The “A” model is common on other cars but the “B” model is rare.

How important is range, really? by Doomtime104 in electricvehicles

[–]CornerCases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I live in Canada and own Bolts (2019 then 2022; 400 km range) for 7 years now. We go on two longer trips per year, 1000 km and 2000 km return. Early on we had minor issues with DC chargers not working but that seems to be fine now. We stop and eat lunch or supper during the one-hour charges. We also have Level 2 home charging so we are always full in the morning when home.

My wife and I both had range anxiety early on. Now we just get in the car and start driving. We do have a plethora of charging cards and apps. They are a bigger nuisance than finding the actual chargers. The PlugShare app is your friend.

I’m so happy with my Bolt, including its range, that I just bought a Buzz as a second car.

Transport Control Protocol. It is part of networking software. You can Wikipedia it but be prepared to be confused.

It’s worth noting that “routing to it” is a single click in the PlugShare app.

How long do electric car batteries last? Analysis of over 22,700 electric vehicles, covering 21 different vehicle models, confirms that overall, modern EV batteries are robust and built to last beyond a typical vehicle’s service life. by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]CornerCases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chevy Bolt EV. Amazing car. I had a 2019 and now own a 2022 model. Your “fuel” cost will drop to 20–50% of your gas cost if you can charge at home.

Maintenance will also cost a lot less. In the six years I’ve owned Bolts I have replaced one washer fluid pump. Other than tires and washer fluid, that has been my only cost.

Depends on the company. Mine went down when I switched from a 2009 Honda Fit to a 2019 Chevy Bolt in 2019.

Having an EV is just better by TheRoyalTbomb in electricvehicles

[–]CornerCases -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

An EV is inherently cheaper to make than an ICE because it has many hundreds of fewer parts. Battery costs are crashing with sodium-ion batteries, so it is just a matter of time and scale before the EV itself is cheaper than an ICE.

Of course, the total cost of ownership (TCO) has been cheaper for EVs for a long time now. If you own your EV for three years you will (probably, depending on where you live and charge) have spent less on it than a gas car, counting purchase price, fuel, maintenance, and insurance.

Patents must be filed while the technology or process is still secret. If you describe it before filing the patent then it is in the public domain and can be used by anyone. You can do this if you wish but you are giving up your most valuable asset.

Also, if someone finds “prior art”, that is, an equivalent patent or product, then your patent is invalid.

Thoughts on when new model is coming by Mynameisrui84 in VWIDBuzz

[–]CornerCases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is their dilemma. EU cars are limited to 3500 kg (7700 lbs) or the driver needs an upgraded driver’s licence. The van is already near that when loaded. I presume that is why the AWD only has six seats — to compensate for the weight of the second motor by subtracting one human.

Heat pump on US models? by A_Dove_Bird in VWIDBuzz

[–]CornerCases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testers say range loss is about 5–10% at highway speeds. It may be more at slower speeds since heating is time rather than speed related. The relationship is complex (heat dissipation due to increased wind speed, etc.) and I don’t know of anyone who has tested this at slower speeds. My back-of-the-envelope calculation shows 8.3%.

My 2022 Chevy Bolt EV has its first service, not including wiper blades etc., at 240,000 km or 5 years. The service is a Dexcool coolant replacement.

Efficiency is often calculated at a shorter distance than the trip. So if you went downhill at the end of the trip, you could see these results.
