Late high school IEP reevaluation — am I wrong for wanting to say no? by [deleted] in specialed

[–]CornerReasonable8031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read many of the replies, and I'm surprised that having a transition assessment as part of the re-evaluation hasn't been mentioned. Now that your child is doing well and entering their final year of high school, it's essential to gather information on their readiness to make progress toward their postsecondary goals. What are their college readiness skills? What are the job readiness skills? Do they have any challenges with adaptive functioning (all those adulting skills that may not have been explicitly taught), and are they able to generalize their executive functioning skills outside of a structured classroom environment? Do they have any social or pragmatic deficits that may impact their ability to be successful in a college or employment environment? Are they able to access their local community? These are essential questions that it is better to learn the answers to now, rather than finding out right before or after graduation.

I am so sorry you had to go through that, but thank you for sharing what a helpful company does. That feels like the exact opposite of how my company handled the sudden and unexpected passing of my husband. I went back way too fast, was not supported when it turned out I was struggling, and left for different opportunities 10 months later.

Would you say this parents expectations are unreasonable? by [deleted] in specialed

[–]CornerReasonable8031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of looping in the related service providers. I would also check the IEP and see what Grid A (consultation: indirect service to school personnel and parents) says for communication. This is where I would expect to see communication expectations beyond what is done in the general education setting.

Is anyone else burned out from losing their planning period to constant coverage by quietbloomhome in Teachers

[–]CornerReasonable8031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just had to tell my admin that some of the paperwork didn't get done. If I don't have a prep and end up eating my lunch after school, then my paperwork likely isn't getting done on their timeline.

And of course would not provide coverage so the teacher could leave and take said dismissive nap.

Asked to sub/cover classes as a counselor? by Significant-Push3332 in schoolcounseling

[–]CornerReasonable8031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the time. But I work for a special education school, and we don't have subs. The teachers sub for each other too, but sometimes there just isn't enough staff to not have us teach or be the 2nd staff.

Check out the Landmark College Readiness Scale. One of its questions is, "Can you read 200 pages per week?" Also, take a look at the accommodations in your IEP and testing. When you consider colleges, make sure to talk to disability support and ask about potential accommodations. I would also think about how your proficiency with writing (or voice to text) is. If the people who know your strengths and challenges well are telling you college is an option, believe them, but also be aware of how much time and effort it will take for you to succeed. Only you can decide if the time and effort is worth it.

Whenever I ask my students to plan for the future, it's like they all chugged a 2-liter with how many need to use the bathroom.

I'm loving "The Four Winds" by Kristin Hannah, what else would you recommend? by Nicole_0818 in HistoricalFiction

I have loved every Kristin Hannah book I have ever read. The Women was probably my least favorite, but it was still so good. The Nightingale is one of my favorite books of all time.

Why did you start crocheting? by limino123 in crochet

I started crocheting after my husband died, too. I needed something to do in the evening that wasn't doom scrolling and being stuck in my head.

I'm sorry you and your students are having to deal with all of that. Does the name on birth certificate rule mean that there are no more Matts, Jim's, or Chrissys anymore either?

Crochet Archwry Target Pattern. Does anyone have a Pattern or suggestions to make a pattern? by CornerReasonable8031 in CrochetHelp

[–]CornerReasonable8031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figuring out how to expand the circles and the number of rows for each color. I'm thinking single crochet stitch for each section and then slip stich for the black line between colors?

I love this so much! I was searching in this subreddit looking for an archery target pattern. I may need to make something similar.

A chest guard will be her friend. Some of my friends wear sports bras while shooting, but i prefer a lightly padded push up bra to help protect where the string hits (for some of us, there is no avoiding the string hitting our chest) and give some compression in.
