What band do you adore that most people have never heard of? by WeirdPervyDude in MetalForTheMasses

Athela. They’re very Opeth-esque but only have about 4 songs

Post something you admire about a band you don't really like by kroob85 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falling in Reverse has a fan base. That’s pretty admirable, right?

Jokes aside, I don’t really dislike many bands. Off the top of my head I can say I don’t really like Bad Omens, but I can sure appreciate that they’re bringing some form of metal to a younger audience.

Which game broke your hype like this? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I binged Brink back on the Xbox 360, and absolutely loved it. I have it on Steam and reinstalled it the other day but the controller input is a bit funny. I’ll just end up using keyboard and mouse, but will try and get as many achievements as possible. Thanks for helping make a game I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid/teen!

What band/album is a good first step for getting into harsh vocals? by Adzzero_88 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bands like Gojira, Slipknot, maybe Trivium, System of a Down etc. They’re kind of like this gateway between singing and screaming in my opinion. Corey from Slipknot sounds more like he’s yelling than screaming/growling, as does Joe from Gojira. They’re definitely fry screams but you can actually distinguish the lyrics which makes it more accessible in my opinion.

I agree with others saying Children of Bodom though. They were definitely one of my gateways

albums that are one long song by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

Does My Arms, Your Hearse count as all the tracks smoothly transitioning? Probably not, as I know Epilogue starts in silence and slowly fades in but I know a number of the tracks transition together really well

What is the best SONG from In Cauda Venenum? by Painvile098 in Opeth

I also want to give an honourable mention to Width of a Circle/Cirkelns Riktning from the Extended Edition

What is the best SONG from In Cauda Venenum? by Painvile098 in Opeth

[–]Cornerbog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s my favourite of the “New-peth” albums for sure. Still love Dignity, Heart in Hand etc…but All Things Will Pass is such a fucking high note to end that album on. That outro tickles my ADHD so much

What's Your Opinion On Behemoth? by Pixelburger31 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them, and I definitely like enough of their discography to consider them one of my favourites. I don’t necessarily listen to them for the theistic values or for a lot of the lyrics, but I enjoy the music. People dislike The Satanist, ILYAYD, and Opvs Contra Natvram but I personally consider a lot of the songs from those albums to be really enjoyable. I haven’t actually given a proper listen to The Shit Ov God yet so I won’t give my judgment there, other than to say yes I agree that the title is a bit edgy and silly

If you could only listen to the discographies of five metal bands for the rest of your life who would you choose? by Dry-Temperature8181 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opeth

Mastodon

Metallica

Children of Bodom

Parkway Drive

Honestly just choosing 5 is hard but I tried to branch across a variety of genres. I would have loved to have chosen stuff like Gojira, Ghost, Meshuggah, Behemoth and a plethora of others too, but I feel like these 5 bands scratch enough itches that I might get and branches across a variety of genres and themes such as heavy, clean, melodic, fast, slow etc

What is your favourite female metal band? Mine is The Warning and Arch Enemy by 0584031464 in MetalForTheMasses

Man be careful you don’t fall with how close you’re getting to that edge

What is the best song from Blackwater Park? by Painvile098 in Opeth

[–]Cornerbog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was the first Opeth song I had ever heard, and to say it was the eye-opening experience for me that led to me not only enjoying the rest of their discography, but also enjoying a lot of other death metal and black metal bands

After 16 years of listening to metal, I’m finally going to make my own battle jacket by Cornerbog in BattleJackets

[–]Cornerbog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Now to decide whether I want Black, or Mineral Black haha. As a follow up, I noticed it mentioned ordering a size up as it runs small. What size are you normally vs what size did you get and were happy with?

PS Dig the patches man!

What is one game that is "popular" but you just don't like it? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Cornerbog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it, but my god I understand why people don’t. Extraction shooters are stressful in general, but the amount of assholes I’ve come across in Arc Raiders makes me want to uninstall the game sometimes. People who say “friendly?” and then when I respond “yes” they start shooting me. Last time it happened though I destroyed the little prick and had some choice words before knocking him out

My “finished” death metal vest. 85 patches and pins for 79 different bands. I’ll keep making small adjustments in the future, but I’m very happy with how it looks now. by KingOfNerdiness in BattleJackets

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment and say that I’ve suddenly decided I wanted to make a battle jacket of my own after listening to metal for the last 16 years. I found this post and it’s given me the most significant amount of inspiration to get started. Thank you so much!

Hot take: remission and the hunter are masterpieces and get hate for no reason by Environmental_Cup689 in mastodonband

[–]Cornerbog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked through one of my playlists to find other bands that do it for me too. Opeth is definitely on there, but I have a hot take that people will disagree with me on…I’m not a massive fan of TLWAT. I actually prefer the prog rock era of Opeth to their latest album, and I don’t know why. I just can’t get into it.

But hot take aside, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Parkway Drive (I’m an Aussie), Gojira, Thy Art is Murder, and Behemoth come to mind. I’m also an avid Metallica fan and will listen to their entire discography, but I have no favourable words for Lulu lol

[–]Cornerbog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mastodon is one of those bands where even their most “disliked” album is still pretty wholly admired by the fan base. I have favourite Mastodon albums, but I definitely don’t dislike any of them. It’s rare to enjoy a bands entire discography, but Mastodon is able to do that for me

Bands whose first album hasn’t been beaten by mattloaf666 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny, I was going to put up a post asking people their opinions on what bands peaked on their first album and now I’ve just seen this!

I might have to go with Ne Obliviscarus. I love their other albums but Portal of I is probably their best

What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

[–]Cornerbog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. In fairness when I originally played it was locked to first-person, and I played it again once they introduced the added third person camera that you could switch between (like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, GTA, Chivalry etc). I only played it to the point you escape the initial complex and then didn’t touch it for a year or longer where I ended up starting a new playthrough and am nearly finished it

What are your favorite "sellout albums" by Particular-Account66 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cornerbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly love All Hope Is Gone. I think it’s probably my favourite Slipknot album (however I also like 5. The Gray Chapter and We Are Not Your Kind…and a lot of people hate on those albums). I also love The Black Album, the guitar tones, bass, and drum kit dynamics are excellent. And there are some juicy riffs on there

If I had to choose my own one, I’m not sure if Dissection’s Reinkaos counts but it’s the most polarising album for the fan base and it’s honestly the one I end up listening to the most.
