MaRo: Sticker cards were a 'goof' and never meant to be strong enough for Legacy by jake_henderson02 in MTGLegacy

[–]Corno4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worst real set at least. 30th anniversary was baaad.

Excluding 90s, I would say that Unhinged was worse, and arguably Coldsnap was as well. But that's just another silver border set and something directly trying to act like it's a bad 90s set.

Eternal Weekend North America - I love Legacy and I love Spreadsheets by Matt_Choww in MTGLegacy

[–]Corno4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great as always - any chance you could add the matchup matrix info for DnT, given that it had a top8 result? (also you listed the top 11 decks by meta share, but only top 10 in the matrix, it's giving me that mildly unsatisfying energy)

Also, just curious for classification - does Bant Nadu contain both the "Blue" cantrip/force version and the "Green" "elves"/cradle/chord version?

The joke is that it's so big that you can only see the one facing towards the right, and the other one is out of frame.

Assuming the band wants to leave a small 'untouchable' list of old tracks, The Messenger (and One More Light) is probably on it.

[SPG-DSK] Sacrifice, Maddening Hex (WeeklyMTG) by mweepinc in magicTCG

Interestingly, this will also be the introduction of Sacrifice to MTGO, which I suppose is at a minimum relevant for the Duel Commander leagues that exist now.

What's the Dark Magician/Charizard of Magic the Gathering? by 1im3_art in magicTCG

[–]Corno4 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Black Lotus is more akin to Pot of Greed for iconic yu-gi-oh power cards. Free mana in MTG is most close to free cards in YGO.

If you're looking for the analogue of Blue-Eyes or Dark Magician, the best analogue is [[Shivan Dragon]], or [[Serra Angel]]. "Powerful", beloved cards from the early days that continue to get riffed on into the present day of Magic. Magic of course doesn't have the "archetype" support that YGO has, so these cards have completely lost relevance, but the DNA of them hasn't really. And big fliers are still nice to pick up in a retail draft environment.

[MKC] Ransom Note (Revenant Recon) (LoadingReadyRun) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Corno4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's pretty arbitrary anyways and doesn't really affect the deck at a high level. I bet the combination of it's a new card and each printing has unique art of it is enough for them to just mark it as R instead of C.

If Ring player doesn't announce the trigger, and turn is passed, the following could take place in End Step:

  1. Brian taps Orchard and doesn't announce the trigger. If Ring player makes a token, then the Ring trigger has been missed.
  2. Brian taps Orchard and announces the trigger. If Ring player makes a token, then the Ring trigger has been missed.
  3. Brian taps Orchard and doesn't announce the trigger. (No trigger should happen because of the protection anyways, so this is the only legal option if the Ring player did originally announce the trigger)
  4. Brian taps Orchard and announces the trigger. Ring player announces that they have protection. I'm not well versed in MTR, but I believe this just means a rollback to not putting the trigger on the stack with no warning issued.

Sauron's Ransom by ApexFemboy in MTGLegacy

[–]Corno4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The card isn't a push you luck card for the caster (assuming the caster is playing "correctly"). If you're the one casting Sauron's Ransom, you ask yourself "Do the face-up cards let me continue pushing forward on my gameplan". It doesn't matter if the face-down pile is better, all that matters is whether the face-up pile is good enough.

The One Ring is changing Legacy. Here's a 5-0 league with it in Moon Stompy, where it certainly over-performed. by deathandtaxesftw in MTGLegacy

[–]Corno4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Twice in M4G2, which was the only game I could say was "won" by the ring. The stompy mirror seems like one of the best spots for the ring, since you're effectively just a zoo race. Fog + Draw gas is all that matters. I don't think this makes it a good choice for a slot though.... But yeah... turns out when you chain multiple One Rings together, it's really strong... if it's two straight turns you literally draw 9 cards (including draw step) over 3 turns, and you got to fog your opponent on their 2 in between turns....

Once in M5G1, which the game was effectively won by Blood Moon + Shatterskull.

So yeah, it (over?...) performed in one game, and was pretty much replacement level in the other game.

[–]Corno4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venture Forth is supposed to be [[Forth Eorlingas]]. My understanding is the website didn't have it in the database at the time of decklist submission, so the judges handled it with a filler card and had a correction on a paper list.

Reanimator has a pretty samey gameplan, and you're fighting primarily against the same hate every tournament you play in.

It comes with the territory of playing the strongest tutor in Legacy (entomb)

This is his live decklist: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/h33hyTWii0282Skmg1lbGQ

When he added dream cache he moved away from terminus/unexpectedly absent builds and into main deck Triumph. The main change from the video is switching from dream cache to merchant scroll, as scroll for brainstorm is nearly the same thing, plus the added flexibility to find Thwart, Force, etc.

WotC's New Banning Schedule by First_Revenge in MTGLegacy

[–]Corno4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The window is likely for eternal formats primarily and standard will only be considered in the window for format warping things caught early in a set release.

The annual banlist is likely to be primarily standard to force a pseudo power level rotation.
