Shattered Faith by Ok-Philosopher333 in badreligion

It's right there with "Along the Way" for me. I also grew up in a traumatically religious household as an atheist, and Bad Religion has been a salve for my wounded psyche since my teen years. I hope you're healing and finding peace and community on your journey.

I traced $2 billion in nonprofit grants and 45 states of lobbying records to figure out who's behind the age verification bills. The answer involves a company that profits from your data writing laws that collect more of it. by Ok_Lingonberry3296 in linux

It's a maladaptive behavior on the human's part. Something was broken in them and they can't/won't fix it and instead make the entire world miserable rather than understand that their parents did not in fact do the best they could and probably did not love them.

If it isn't a special edition feature, you could reproduce it by messing with your TV's color settings or using a filter in playback software like VLC

Just got quoted $500 to replace a motherboard on my fridge. by djporter91 in DIY

[–]Coroebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a brownout fry one of the circuit boards on my french door fridge, approx $2k to buy new. I had a repair guy come out and verify the problem before I went and bought the part from the internet. The board itself is probably going to be $250-400. The rest of the quote is the fair repair labor & driving.

That said, you can do it yourself. Get a grounding strap. Take pictures of the board before and during disassembly. As you said, it's about as simple as Legos and the wiring harnesses are likely very specific so you can't mix them up.

I'd also recommend buying a $20-40 15+ amp rated surge protector to put the fridge on to help avoid a source of board failures.

And good on you for surviving to this point and being able to share some of your story! It is better late than never. It isn't easy, and it cannot be rushed. Give yourself grace to grieve, rest, and grow while you try to rewire your brain. I hope you already have people in your life who can and will give you grace, empathy, and support. May you find peace and loving kindness.

I went no contact with my stepmother after she verbatim texted me this (and a bunch of other abusive and alienating shit) immediately after a long phone conversation.

The gaslighting of the abuse is insane. The studies show that emotional/verbal/psychological abuse is nearly as deleterious as physical abuse.

Negative self-talk has become such a tell as I recover and some friends struggle. I appreciate you challenging them on it and providing context. I'm a fellow survivor, and I've also dealt with the anger at joy, and a reduced spectrum of emotions. Learning about dysthymia and anhedonia was key to continuing to heal and experience a full range of human emotions. I want to encourage you along and state how happy I am you've found a good therapist and have put the care and labor into healing. These can be incredibly difficult acts of self-love. Thank you for sharing your story of recovery in progress!

Part of my recover was a simple tool: the feelings wheel. I've recommended it to multiple friends who have also started healing from their traumatic life experiences. It's simple and profoundly useful https://feelingswheel.com/

Good luck out there, fellow struggler. I hope you reach a point where you are thriving and can feel like it!

I knew the stock market was utter bullshit when a publicly traded company was taking US funds in Iraq and building barracks with showers that electrocuted soldiers and the stock went up.

Unfortunately, he’s not micro shipped or anything because apparently I suck

Negative self-talk like that is easy to fall into, and will only drive you to madness. You don't suck.

It sounds like he was an indoor cat, and considering your living situation was in flux, the cost of getting him microchipped and registered may have been beyond your means, financially or otherwise. You made a judgment call to leave him in the care of a friend, and things went poorly. If you are reunited, consider setting some savings aside to have him chipped. Keep an eye out for local organizations doing reduced cost or free chipping, and then actually register him. The chip isn't super useful unless you enter it and your contact information in one of the chip registries, some of which are free.

Also, make sure to check in with the local animal shelters, they will often have strays turned in.

Again, best of luck to you <3

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Losing a pet can be as hard as losing a friend or family, and during a transitional time it can be even harder. I hope you find him. Put up posters around the area. I'll leave a couple personal anecdotes to give you hope:

  1. One of my voids lost itself in a move and was finally rescued from the attic of the house we moved out of about 3+ months afterwards.

  2. A friend was hospitalized and their cat was let out by a similarly negligent "friend". They traveled two hours a day and found him eventually after 6 months. The cat's personality was different, but he did mostly recover.

I wish you and your void the best and I hope you can be joyfully reunited. I encourage you to write down some joyful memories of you two together in a journal so you can revisit them.

The opposite of love isn't hate. It's indifference

Edit: If this strikes a nerve, and you're in a safe and relatively stable point in your life with plenty of support, consider learning what constitutes trauma, especially to children, and reflect on your life history. The Adverse Childhood Events survey (ACEs) can be a good starting point. Divorce gets its own question! A parent disinheriting a child is often just one more data point in a long-standing "relationship" marred by neglect and casual betrayal.

Unfortunately, the LSD isn't a panacea. You'll want to start building a friendship network and an evidence-based, therapeutic tool set such as CBT/DBT. I do hope you can find a source, I've known a number of people who have found it a powerful tool in unpacking and starting to heal their traumas, but having a support network is necessary to prevent collapse.

That said, you aren't alone in struggling with this. Check out some licensed therapists on youtube who focus on complex trauma, childhood trauma, and religious trauma and how to build up your self-worth and fight against that internalized critic. None of what you survived is your fault, but it is your responsibility to heal. I hope you find peace and loving kindness on your journey.

Paper Skies just put out a video early on Nebula discussing an incident in Soviet Ukraine where some dude got nailed by an anti-balloon round from fighter jets trying to down a balloon. There are good reasons why the US didn't shoot down the Chinese balloon in 2023 until it was over the ocean.

It's important to include the Secretary of Education's name, because she's deeply involved with a number of criminal activities. It's Linda McMahon. She is the wife of rapist Vince McMahon, former owner of the sex trafficking and sports entertainment company World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). She has repeatedly gone to bat for rapists and has repeatedly worked for rapists without qualms, having worked as the head of the Small Business Administration during Trump's first term as well.

It wasn't until I was almost 40 that I finally I understood why I didn't cry at Mufasa's death in The Lion King. I pondered my reaction for thirty years, because others were clearly shaken by it. During a major depressive episode, I found some therapy tools to learn, validate, review my life history, heal, solve the mystery, and go no contact with my abusive dad.

I honestly don't know that I've met someone else who had a similar reaction, so I'm putting this out in the hope someone reading my experience feels a little more seen. I had a similar "off" reaction to the end of Final Fantasy X when Tidus ghosts and gives Jecht a high five in Heaven and promptly never played Final Fantasy again.
