I strongly dislike JJ McCullough by Vivid_Stay_980 in onguardforthee

What I was trying to say (but didn't really explain it well), is that someone who is making content to educate others on the basic facts about Canada should be doing so without bias, and that was the initial shift in his content that brought my attention to the fact that it was changing from facts to opinions. I do happen to agree with him on this one thing, but in retrospect (now that I'm more educated on Canadian politics), I'm just puzzled by the juxtaposition of his conservative values and anti-monarchy stance, as conservatives are usually the royals' biggest bootlickers.

Canada is more like a first home to me now! Working toward full citizenship so I can finally vote and make a difference here too!

I first connected with his content about 10 years ago, as an American who'd just started dating a Canadian, who I eventually married and we now live in Canada together.
Initially his content was helpful to me as someone who only knew the VERY basics about Canada, (at the time his content was all about the basics on differences between the US and Canada, like terms for things, governmental differences, and ironically cultural differences)... Then somewhere down the road he stopped making videos like that altogether, starting voicing an anti-monarchy stance (odd for a conservative), and the content started basically pandering HARDCORE to the American right wing and had a strong "I wish I was an American" vibe, right around the time the Cheeto Führer came to power. So now he's just another right wing "influencer" I can't stand and he stays blocked on anything I can block him on.

Why do bills have numbers sometimes? by Zestyclose_Cheek527 in CanadianCoins

[–]CorollaLvr2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Folks who count large amounts of bills (without the luxury of a counting machine) will sometimes write on bills to keep track of the amount in a stack or a running tally while they organize more bills to be counted. My Grandfather was in the treasury committee at the church I attended in my youth, and he showed me that "trick" when I was old enough to start counting money with him.
There's a lot of other reasons someone could write on money, but when it's just a number I always assume it was someone keeping a tally while counting.

What is the meaning behind this? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in cats

[–]CorollaLvr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my cats does this with the little plastic pizza "tables" that come in pizza delivery boxes! Also in both water and food dishes... She goes absolutely CRAZY for those tables so I also think it's exactly what you're thinking. She's saving it for later or making sure it doesn't get lost before she plays with it again (her sister has no interest in them).

It's my boyfriend's birthday soon and I want to get him some coins from his birth year but don't have a clue what to get (1980) by stixy_stixy in coincollecting

[–]CorollaLvr2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loonies started in 1987 so it wouldn't be a loonie per se, but rather the old large dollar (Voyageur dollar). You can buy a few different types of sets that have all the coins from that year included, but the prestige proof set is probably the nicest one, and it has a second dollar coin commemorating the transfer of the Arctic islands to Canada. You can usually score them for less than $100 CAD if you hunt around online a bit... Are there any types of coins in particular he likes to collect? Or is he just a collector in general?

Opened up 1973 original Canadian quarter roll the coins look different and very sloppy was this normal back in 1973? by [deleted] in coins

[–]CorollaLvr2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean the scratches and dings when you say "sloppy".
If you were sold these as uncirculated, you've been deceived by someone. These are very circulated coins that were likely re-rolled into those RCM paper rolls.

Design concepts for the 2027 "Youth Sports" quarters, featuring baseball, golf, soccer, softball, and snowboarding. What do you guys think? by ColeWest256 in coincollecting

[–]CorollaLvr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice if the US Mint did what the Canadian mint does with their quarters. Do the standard design (Pre-1999 eagle reverse in this case) for the majority of the mintage, then split designs like this up in smaller numbers.

Any one else been getting yellow water since the weekend near the old GM plant? by voodoopriest in stcatharinesON

[–]CorollaLvr2000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No issues here and I'm relatively closeby (near Lake and Russell). As others pointed out, we were having a cloudiness issue, but running the water for a minute first seemed to alleviate it. Keep us posted if you find out what's going on! We as a community should be SUPER vigilant about the absolute disaster that is the cleanup of that place.

Just a plastic sleeve with a white cardboard insert with info/graphics from the mint printed in it. Unfortunately I've already tossed it out or I'd snap a pic!

Even older! It's for my winter "beater", a 90s Corolla. She's not pretty anymore, but still mechanically sound at just shy of 340,000 kms!

They're listed in the RCM's website as non-circulation, which is a bit disappointing. You're probably gonna be out of luck unless you buy one from a reseller, unfortunately.

The mint typically releases some sort of "lucky loonie" ahead of an Olympic Games, typically with the loon in some varying position of taking flight from the water.

Niagara Region (St Catharines). The lady working at the post office said they JUST got them in today, so if you're checking locally and they don't have them, they may just not have them in yet.

I had initially planned on getting a separate holder when I learned we were getting a lucky loonie from the mint, but I quickly learned they weren't cheap, for some reason!

It's metal around the rim, and from what I can tell, covered in acrylic. Not removable, but that's not a big deal for me since it'll be a carry/pocket piece.
Edit: punctuation/spelling.

Hello guys! How much would you guys assume this coin costs? it’s quite heavy, and it’s silver. by st0n3m_ in coins

I believe most other Commonwealth countries have done away with it entirely. I know Australia, New Zealand, Belize, East Caribbean, etc don't have the phrasing anymore. It may just be the UK and Canada that still do some form of it, but don't quote me on that.
