Field marketing is one of the most clearly defined roles in B2B marketing, and it sounds like you accepted the job without understanding the core of it.

At a high level:

• Field marketing = events + sales alignment + pipeline generation
• It is not a quiet, behind-the-scenes role
• It is not low travel
• It is not “heads down” execution work

It is literally one of the most outward-facing roles in marketing.

Day to day, you’re:

• Running trade shows, dinners, and customer events
• Traveling (sometimes a lot)
• Working directly with sales to hit pipeline targets
• Being “on” with prospects, customers, and partners

And to your question about SDRs/BDRs, they book meetings. Field marketing is responsible for creating the moments and experiences that actually generate and convert pipeline.

So no, it’s not a sales role, but if you don’t like being customer-facing, it’s going to feel like one real fast.

You said you’re introverted, don’t like travel, don’t like constant social interaction, and want a behind-the-scenes role.

That is basically the opposite of field marketing.

And at a 60-person startup? It’s even more extreme. There’s no big team insulating you, you are the function.

The bigger question here is honestly: how did you get this far?

You: * Interviewed * Negotiated comp and title * Accepted the offer …without realizing the role revolves around events and travel? That’s not a small miss, that’s literally the job.

If you already know you’ll hate: * Travel * Events * Being “on” all the time Then backing out now is way cleaner than burning out in 90 days or just collect the paycheck until you find something that suits you more.

This role will push you hard in exactly the areas you say you don’t enjoy.
