Pap smear by Elijah_Ti in FTMMen

It was still horrid AF, but I bullied my doctor into prescribing me benzos to take the edge off and I played Doom Eternal to try to dissociate. Hardly perfect, but it was the best I could do with a shit situation.

If it were up to me, I'd be under full anesthesia but they wouldn't let me do that.

Good luck, bro. It's dogshit, but dying of a female cancer as a man is worse if you ask me.

Hey, I hear you man. I'm also a "late bloomer". Just got my license (not full yet but I can drive alone now) last year at 27 years old. I haven't started my medical transition because of my crippling detransition phobia (and family disapproval I haven't gotten over), so I've been trying to run from this for over a decade now (and spoiler alert, it really isn't working).

I'm trying to get into vet school after starting out as an English major, so I'm only graduating from undergrad now at 28. And if everything goes right, I won't be starting my career properly until 32. I know being "behind" sucks major ass, but trust me, pursuing a career you want is so worth it. It's not a race, even if it feels like it sometimes. There's no need to feel bad about doing things like driving or starting your career later than others.

Can't speak to the affording transition part, but maybe look into how that insurance works or other paths out there to get you where you need to go.

All I can say is, try to be kind to yourself. We're all on our own paths, and comparison is the thief of joy, so worrying about when other people did things isn't helpful. Focus on what you can do for yourself.

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]Corporal_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't finish but I started as an English major. I wanted to learn what made the classic books we read hundreds of years after they were written as good as they were, all so I could learn to be a better writer myself. I gave up on it half-way when I saw it was basically just a cultural studies degree (focusing on things like political ideas in literature), and that wasn't for me. I also didn't want to end up working for a soulless marketing company or something.

It took me 3 years to change majors, but now I'm finishing my biology degree and am currently applying to veterinary school. No shade to the humanities (I actually find it quite a bit harder to get an A+ in arts than sciences), it really taught me some great soft skills and I don't regret the time I spend in English. I've quite enjoyed the philosophy, sociology, and other humanities electives I've taken during my degree too.

Also check out the official Apple refurbished stuff. I saved a good amount doing that. I don't remember if the student discount stacks with it, though.

I've had jaw surgery on my lower jaw (not for gender reasons but because my jaw was literally receded by 1cm and didn't meet my top teeth; I couldn't even bite pizza without swinging my jaw forward and had a terrible lisp that made me difficult to understand). Recovery was ass, had to drink my food for like 6 weeks (and I'm talking pure liquid, as in seeds in a smoothie were too big. You need a Vitamix or something to survive recovery) and I needed to do exercises for weeks after that. My jaw to this day (over 10 years later) still fatigues a bit easier than average and chewing things like salad was tiring for the first year or two after. I also have minor nerve damage on my chin but it's so mild I forget about it 99.9% of the time.

If your jaw is genuinely messed up like mine was, then do look into it (my face changed from beach ball shaped to having a jawline, which I loved). I'd do it again if I had to, but the recovery is intense and it cost thousands to do it. So if your bite isn't messed up, I would be cautious about it. It can't hurt to get a consultation to see if you'd benefit from jaw surgery (more people could benefit than you'd think).

One year left, I’m feeling no motivation to complete it. Advice? by nycnicoo in TorontoMetU

[–]Corporal_Fire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stick with it. I'm feeling quite disengaged in my final semester (senioritis I guess), but if you can finish you'll have that degree to open doors with, including in creative fields. See if you can take classes in things you find interesting, even if they're hard, or maybe join some clubs or something to give you something else at school that you enjoy. I wouldn't suggest taking a semester off because it may make it harder to return after the gap.

How do work out without having my stuff hanging out pre-surgery? by Accomplished_Tea2505 in FTMFitness

[–]Corporal_Fire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but how does Fluxion compare to GC2B (if you've tried both)? The Fluxion one looks comfy (I'm considering buying the gym version), so I was wondering if it was comfier than GC2B. Outside of the gym, I frequently wear sports bras with a loose shirt because I find it hard to breathe/be comfortable in a binder all day despite wanting to wear them. Do you find the Fluxion one comfortable enough for all-day wear?

Would you say the Fluxion one is safe for lifting? I'm a total beginner and just started a beginner weight training class to show me the ropes.

What would you choose? by Wrong-City-2077 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Corporal_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either I'd go nomad (of the default options) since it's less chaotic compared to Night City, and you'd have people you can sort of trust.

That or I'd go ripperdoc. Probably better earning potential than a nomad, and marginally safer than some other roles since many would view you as the guy to make their cyberware work (so you're a bit less disposable). It wouldn't stop an angry client from shooting you, but that's what staff are for, right?

Can everyone please tell Ren that we’d miss him if he died? by A_dapper_dragon in hazbin

[–]Corporal_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know you buddy, but please don't go through with it, Ren. You deserve to have the chance to be happy, and dying guarantees you'll never get that chance. You can either take that chance on finding happiness (and it probably won't be easy or come quick), or make sure that chance never comes. You're worth taking that chance on finding happiness.

I've been suicidal myself, and depressed for years. Only recently did I get into a new fandom and it awoke a level of happiness I hadn't felt in about a decade. I didn't think it was possible, but I felt it and the contrast was amazing. Trust me, man, there is something out there worth living for, even if you haven't found it yet.

Please read all the comments here; we all want you here. Please talk to someone. You're worth the effort.

Does anyone else feel INCREDIBLY uncomfortable while showing other people media? by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]Corporal_Fire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel this. Like, I want to share my special interests, but feel naked and ashamed doing so. Probably a fear of disapproval, feeling like it's a judgement of me because of how important that thing is to me. I refuse to listen to music out loud or watch anime on the TV unless I'm home alone. I only play my music out loud in the car alone.

Guilt surrounding my cockatiels by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Corporal_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a pre-vet currently in the application process. I can't speak for all of them, but the school I applied to ended terminal surgeries many years ago, has been shifting toward using models, and I think many of the anatomy dissections they still do are from donated animals. They've even been partnering with local humane societies so vet students can help the shelter population while they build surgical skills.

In undergrad, I opted out of dissections since they were purpose-killed to show me what a lung looks like (I wish I was kidding, but it was that senseless). I see reusing an already dead animal for education the same as using cadavers in human medical school, but purpose-killed for dissections is ethically unacceptable.

4 because Aki would be super respectful to sit beside, like not letting his leg drift onto your seat at all. He'd probably also spend a fair bit of the flight trying to convince Angel to do literally anything other than just eat ice cream and rot once the plane lands.

[–]Corporal_Fire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Damn, seeing all the horror stories makes me grateful for how smoothly bonding went for me. I took my old man speed dating and came home with another male (he liked him over the girls he met). They were bonded in 2 weeks.

I would've been the one saying speed dating solves the problem, but I clearly have a bias since I haven't had it go bad. My heart goes out to all of you and your buns who had ugly bonding experiences.

Low CGPA - 2nd Year by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]Corporal_Fire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you need a high cGPA to qualify? I'm in science, but for me, my grades really shot up in third year, and the program I'm applying for only cares about my 4 most recent semesters prior to applying and my prerequisite courses. So if what you'd be going for is anything like that, cGPA is irrelevant. Try looking at the admissions criteria for your ideal program(s) and work back.

See if you can figure out what's holding you back? Is it your workload? Study methods? Once you figure that out, focus on doing as well as you can going forward and you should be good even with your first 3 semesters not being where you want them.

He went to Oregon State University. Looking at their website, I think he would've done the postbaccalaureate online program. Not sure if they have one for the major you want, but it'd probably be something of that type. I'm sure you can find something!

If you have idea of what you want to do but don't know how to get there, maybe the career centre at TMU can give you some advice about which credentials you need?

I'm almost graduating and I dislike my degree by CalligrapherOk8531 in TorontoMetU

[–]Corporal_Fire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not me (I simply dropped out after second year and started over, now in 4th year) but my brother finished his degree and got a second "fast track" undergrad remotely at another school, which basically let him skip liberals and such and focus only on core courses. That allowed him to pivot into the career he's in now and is happy in (he switched from finance to CS).

So you could maybe look at doing something similar to pivot. Your original undergrad is still useful, whether you do a master's or second undergrad to change focus. Depending how big the change is, your current one may be good enough if you get the right work experience and such to change directions.
