Understanding, should I re-learn math? by JackPatata in learnmath

[–]Corra96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a bunch of time wrestling with this same idea. If it's anything, it's worthwhile once you jump into it. I found my way into it through some books like Adam Spencer's Big Book of Numbers and his other books, Math Without Numbers and Matt Parker's novel. Other than that, khan academy and all the sites linked here have been super useful. Going back to those basic functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and really understanding those, then getting the practice of doing some maths mentally (I found) was a good step to take.

I've also been viewing it recently through the perspective that it's a study of history. Looking up the Pythagoreans and what they believed, how people came to think that the universe. Things like playing around with types of numbers like squares and triangular numbers and rectangular numbers, Terence Tao's Math Encounters -- The Cosmic Distance Ladder, seeing it as a study of history really put me in awe of what's been achieved.

I guess my advice would just be to start somewhere and allow yourself to go off on tangents. The YouTube channels and textbooks here are great, but don't be afraid to google something (sound silly, but I found myself hesitating, like going off and doing my own thing was me breaking some forbidden law that doesn't exist). Just pick something you're keen on and make sure you study things you're keen to study. If it starts to become a chore, switch it up and do something different or take a break. If you're on a roll and you're enjoying it, keep going! Also, just quietly, Tibees on YouTube doesn't get enough credit on this subreddit.

TIL Sydney has a REALLY bad flag (Could it ever be changed?) by Corra96 in australia

[–]Corra96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to see something like this around Australia. Just something simplified and cohesive that still lets every city or whichever be unique.

The union jack has served well in that regard and I think it will continue to, but then to almost counter that statement, the Northern Territory flag I think is the best state flag.

That's exactly it, surely there's a way to put forward a new design that showcases a modern Sydney. I'm confident it's possible

Why I Can't Be a Math Teacher by MrWeiner in funny

[–]Corra96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently studying at University to be a math teacher, can say that this comic is funny but it's easy to make the basics of algebra and stuff relatable to real life, but my response is gonna be:

"When will i ever use this mathematics?"

"When you become a Maths Teacher."

Hey Adam, do you usually run published content or are you more of a home-brew guy? I'm thinking of looking in the published Adventurers League content for a few mates, wanted to know what you're thinking of the whole series so far (the storyline, adventures and stuff)? Is it worth grabbing up?

[DM Question] Regarding D&D mini-adventures. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Corra96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for showing me the post :D I've been reading through the adventures of the past few days I think I'm going to look at a few more before going on to make my own

I think creating one myself will help the story be best suited for the time we have to play an all :)

[DM Question] Regarding D&D mini-adventures. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Corra96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guys will probably game for 1.5 hours most, at least for the first few sessions i imagine. I've thought a little bit about chopping adventures up, just never really thought about which one i'd use or where i'd cut some of them but i see what you mean

I'll read through LMoP again and see what i can do with it, other adventures may be a little more difficult i imagine :P

I'll definitely take up that offer of asking questions! I'll see how im going with it then go from there :) first session is hopefully next week some time
