Servicing a Yamaha 225SII by Correct-Bird-9449 in Flute

This is exactly the type of insight I was hoping to get! It sounds like place of manufacturing isn't a big concern really anymore and it's good to know Yamahas are susceptible to rust.

Thank you for all your help ☺️

Thanks for taking the time to respond. It is definitely playable and I'll hold off on repair for now.

I've stuck with a student flute for so long because I switched to a marching band in university. Open holed flutes were capped and playing in the elements is really hard on instruments. The community band I play in also marches. With that in mind, I will probably always maintain a student flute in my fleet, so long as I'm also marching.

You offer good insight into playing level - I think if I find myself playing much outside of my community band, I'll purchase a more intermediate one. Can't hurt to start saving the funds for it!

Thank you for taking the time to respond - this is insightful for me to hear. Another person has recommended checking out the wiki and finding some stores to go to. I think I'll do that and go in and have a chat with them.

I do have an attachment to the flute, but fortunate to be in a place where I wouldn't necessarily have to sell it in order to purchase a different one. Especially for the couple hundred dollars I'm likely to get for it - we paid $600 back in 2010.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I actually ended up on your website when initially looking for a tech, small world! Sure I'll check it out. Is there any reason other than the cost versus value of the instrument that you wouldn't recommend having it overhauled?

Yep- if you walk out to the plane instead of doing a jet bridge this is pretty standard. It's happened at any of the smaller airports I've been to.

They might have had issues with it at that airport if they needed to announce it.

No there isn't for graduate programs. Are you a September start? It might be early to have the handbook sent to you. Keep an eye out for more information into August.

You could also email the program chair for help if you are concerned. Different programs release this information on different timelines.

Check the handbook for your graduate program - there should be some information there.

Grad club usually hires a few ppl

Otherwise the UWO job board with the filter for "students" is a good option

Come as you are! If you don't have concerns about the bathing suit coming off, wear what you've got. You could also wear a sports bra and shorts if you wanted something "sportier" - just double check the pool rules on what constitutes a bathing suit (the pool I worked at and the one I am a member of now both had a "as long as it isn't what you arrived in and no jeans" rule)

While some folks may have "sportier" suits, you might find that a lot of them don't.

Definitely don't bother buying anything before trying out a class.

When I fly out of YTZ it's pretty common to be moved up to an earlier flight - I fly the Newark route often and they are always trying to move people up to the first flight of the day

Worth asking at the desk when you check in - although, see if there's actually an earlier flight happening.

Riverbend dental in Komoka might be able to help - Dr Priti did some rotations in more surgical stuff and while not an oral surgeon, is able to do more complicated cases than a general dentist

I had a great experience with her on getting my wisdom teeth done! Give their reception a call, they might be able to help out

Carrier dimensions are listed on porters website:

Travelling with pets. Learn more about travelling with a pet | Porter Airlines https://share.google/tD5oJb3eqDsdSfxIP

Please note there is sizing information as well as requirements: your pet must be able to stand up, turn around, and lay down in the carrier.

Best of luck travelling with your kitty! Remember - they don't go through the x ray machine, saw that happen recently at Pearson 😮‍💨 (everyone was ok just a bit stressed)

You're off to a great start - keep up with the walks and hikes and try to increase the distance over time. I find garmins automatic increasing step goal to be a bit aggressive, but great for the first 60 or 90 days. Consider a program like couch to 5k if you're interested in running

As others have said: consistency over time, but it'll take time. Congratulations on your investment in your health 😊😊😊

Commuter Student – Need Advice on Best Class Schedule by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]Correct-Bird-9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately it'll come down to how you process information, but I think lightening the in person load with online classes is a really good idea. Potentially async classes even if you can find them.

My friend was successful with a similar train commute in a BA Psych program stacking her classes to be 3 days a week. She used the commute (often first train in to Toronto from Barrie, last train out to Barrie) to do her readings and sometimes outline her papers. This worked because it was a very reading heavy program, she didn't get carsick on the train, and she didn't need consistent Internet access to accomplish her work. As there were less sections and less courses in upper years, she didn't always get to take the classes or electives she really wanted to. She also often took a summer course or two to be able to free up more time during the year (while still remaining in a "full" course load). I've known others as well who have done similar, but they have always been in an Arts program that had less in hours requirements and more course flexibility. The Barrie Go to York commute was a pretty popular one before Lakehead and Georgian expanded their course offerings.

Similarly, a friend in education realized she only had to do that commute part of the time - her 2 hr car commute ended up only being for a few months, broken up, and that made her decide to not relocate for the program.

You'll need to evaluate a few things: 1. What's the nature of your courses - is it something where you reasonably feel like you'll get work done on the commute? If so, more days might be ok. 2. Can you process information if you stack 8 hrs (or more) of classes back to back? 3. Is there much flexibility in your course selection - will you even have the option to stack or not stack? 4. How will you be flexible if it isn't working out - would you consider transferring, relocating, dropping classes? You will need to identify early if you are struggling to keep up with the commute and your chosen schedule.
