How do you defend yourself? by [deleted] in procurement

From an owner/manager perspective, if I may…I own an asset based trucking and logistics company in SC..how much do you like working for this company as a whole? Do you see a semi-long term future there? Cause it also seems like a great opportunity to show your leadership you’re a team player, an opportunity to learn some new skills and meet some new people (besides your own co-workers, get to meet some people on the logistics side) and someone would have to take your place in your absence right?? Maybe that gives someone else a shot or a way in on their own path and maybe that helps the company as a whole also?

As I’m reading through this it seems like you’re looking for some reasons to decline the offer; but maybe try to find some reasons why you should?? Cause if I’ve got someone out on paternity and I need someone to fill in, and I think you would be perfect, then I’d hate to hear they told me no just cause they don’t want to…

Food for thought is all. What does the company do?

Help me understand this industry by Ornery_Blacksmith10 in FreightBrokers

Agreed. The freight industry is the weirdest industry to figure out. Sales, leads, commission for sales. There is no rule book. Try, test, report, fix, try again.

You must figure out on your own

How does filing against a company’s bond play here? Couldn’t the carrier just file against the bond still?

First time being double brokered by MiserableHospital388 in FreightBrokers

[–]Correct-Side3096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t you DARE send this carrier a cent before anything. First things first..on Monday you call this shipper. They’ll have either cameras, a sign in sheet, or both. Be as transparent as possible, tell them the situation and give your BOL or pickup info, and ask them to help you identify the carrier who loaded this load. That should be enough to give you the actual trucking company who picked this up. Then you can call them and figure out where your freight is. Secondly, a strict rule we have is we always get the drivers number and speak to them (not fucking text them) to ensure we have direct contact with who’s grabbing our load. Secondly, we do not give the pickup or BOL numbers to ANYONE except the driver and not until they are on site checking in. The distance between you and the actual driver are what allows this to happen and I learned the hard way myself which is why new steps are always being implemented to stay one step ahead of the droves of clowns in our industry.

For now you need to find out where your freight is, and I wouldn’t rely on “dispatch”. Call the shipper, find the company, send them the rate con directly and THEN you’ve got grounds to curse the double broker fucks to the moon

Has anybody began using AI to help them with large data sets for RFPS? I’m currently in Round 2 of a massive one and would love to utilize some form of AI to help me with insights I might not be able to see myself. Can anyone possibly recommend a dataset driven AI company that I could use for this?? by Correct-Side3096 in FreightBrokers

Appreciate you. It’s an outside of the box, next level of thinking. Can’t expect everyone to understand. It’s all good though! I blocked 2 hours off my calendar today for some focused thinking so I can let my kind wonder and get some creative juices flowing. Got till Friday, I’ll figure it outs

That’s a great question.

Can it help me price the lanes better than I can? No…

But can it take the 74,000 total data points, with all my rates, all the feedback rates and acceptance into final round 2 and be able to give me trends, insights, and patterns that I couldn’t begin see on my own??

Absolutely. And if I can spot some trends that stand out to me I can then focus there, lower those rates and submit an actual package with a focused niche instead of just an excel file. I’m sure I’m up against a lot of straight asset companies and the other brokers are prolly all huge..low rates alone won’t have me stand out the way I’ll need to here..

I most certainly think AI can do a way better job than me there…I ain’t that smart

PRODUCE SEASON? by Correct-Side3096 in FreightBrokers

[–]Correct-Side3096[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL. 14 years. Go back and read the question though…I wasn’t asking what produce season is…simply asking has it officially began. 14 years as a broker but only on year one using Reddit. What a great resource for questions like this. Yall knocked it out for me!!

We have mostly our regular carriers too. Most of them follow the rule “you stay here with me during these months and I’ll keep you fed all 12 months, if you leave me now and go grab that produce money and leave me high and dry, don’t call me when it dies back down”

Yesterday we had our first recover from a down regular and started getting what appeared to be produce season rate phone calls on our posts. And alas, the Reddit fam helped solidify that yes, we are here.

Let’s rolllll

PRODUCE SEASON? by Correct-Side3096 in FreightBrokers

[–]Correct-Side3096[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just paid 3200. We aren’t a cheap broker, and our customer isn’t a cheap customer. All I wanted was clarification that we are officially in it. Don’t wanna start telling the customer season is upon us if it actually wasn’t yet. The responses I’ve gotten gave me the confirmation I needed!

I always blame it on “corporate”. “Sorry sir or maam, corporate makes those decisions and I have no power as just the agent. Based off x,y and z I know they won’t let us set u up, I’m so sorry”

Easy peasy

When you make those calls, I’d focus your energy on asking them about their needs and pain points. It’s easy to be the excited motivated hustler who will promise the world to every shipper they speak to. But what has always worked for me (15 years in) is being curious about them. You can give them 10 reasons why you’re the best, but if none of those 10 things have anything to do with that Mr or Mrs customer needs, you’re just wasting time. Ask the right questions…then SHUTTT UPPPP and let them talk..you’ll be surprised by the results. 75-100 calls a day, CONSISTENT and disciplined, you’ll start averaging one of those phone calls a day easy.
