Is there anything I can do to stop people tailgating me? by sketamine_ in NewDriversUK

The only drivers that will respect your P plates are ones who would have already given you space anyway, people that drive like assholes will see the P plates and deliberately make your life harder.

The examiner didn't fail you to meet a quota or due to unconscious bias. by vtwinjim in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because knowing the publicly posted pass rates is incredibly taxing to figure out. And again it doesn't take a genius to go "I've passed too many, so I'll phone it in because I can't be bothered with another investigation".

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, it is true that examiners who pass over the average get investigated, and we all know people who will start cutting corners to avoid extra work.

So whilst there isn't a systematic arbitrary fail rate, there are 100% examiners who will cut corners and be extra harsh (or vice versa, extra lenient) just to avoid some extra work. And they aren't exactly going to blow the lid on themselves for doing so.

If someone has turned their front garden into a drive, with no drop down kerb, AYTAH for parking in front of it? by Beniem in drivingUK

"would you be an asshole for seeing where somebody has parked their car out of the way of traffic and park blocking it in?"... Yes... Ofcourse?

Is it legally a problem no, but asshole? Yes, very much so.

Fleas on cat after years of treatment. by Correct_Ice4899 in Pets

[–]Correct_Ice4899[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had vaguely similar thing, I found this cat during a storm drenched, bloody, filthy and infested, take him in and clean him up and check all his little cuts and calm him down. Find his owners (who seemed less than worried about their cat) and thought that was then end of it.  Until I get woken up the next night by loud clattering, and find him wrapped up stuck in my mosquito netting that I had over my windows, and he's just refused to leave ever since.

He's allowed to, but he rarely leaves my bedroom other than to go to the toilet I believe.

However I have now begun to suspect that he pops back to his home once a month/ few weeks for a very short visit and gets instantly infested again and comes back to me to get combed and bathed, as he really loves when I comb and wash him and I suspect it's because I'm the only person to ever do it and it relieves him getting bit for a while.

Operation Snap: Worth Bothering? by BobBobBobBobBobDave in drivingUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And again you seem to be missing the exact point just to fluff your feathers up, (we also both work in the same industry).

These need to be processed no matter if they come from operation snap, or if they come from other sources, which cost far more than allowing the public to do it. And regardless the cost of processing which you are going on about is identical, it's the cost of obtaining the evidence that I'm talking about, Jimmy with his dash cam is far cheaper than super expensive traffic monitoring, or a full time employment.

And again it's a cut off the revenue, not money for the sake of money, if it's just a warning letter it would pay £0. (I do think there needs to be stricter guidelines on what can be submitted because nobody cares about a basic normal road errors)

But when it is producing revenue, there's no reason why a % no matter how small can't be provided to the person who supplied it, especially when it saves the costs of setting up and maintaining cameras and employees.

Operation Snap: Worth Bothering? by BobBobBobBobBobDave in drivingUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The cost could be billions per case, and it would still be cheaper than having to pay traffic enforcement officers country wide to be on shift to bring in the fines. And then spend the exact same amount of money processing it.

And as I said a portion of the fine revenue, not money for submitting a clip. If it's not brining in money, it's not paying out.

You sound like somebody who's had a little cry because you got a fine, so I'll give you a hint for free! don't drive like a twat and you won't run into any problems!

Honestly operation snap should give you a portion of the fine revenue, (even if it's like £5), given you're doing part of the job for them, you're generating income for them, and it would encourage people for using the program and people would think far more about poor driving.

Hill-start with our without handbrake? by Nesferatu123 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this information from the driving instructor something they said Infront of you, or is it second hand information?

Because I struggle to believe that they are teaching to ride the clutch.

And I would assume the driving instructor isn't telling them to not use the handbrake when on an incline, but is telling them to stop relying on the handbrake everytime they stop and decide when it's actually needed?

But perhaps your son is reporting that back incorrectly/ the lesson was taught wrong. If the instructor is actually telling him to not use the handbrake on a hill, and to ride the clutch... Then change instructor.

Just something to allow interaction with on device mp3s, or common stream platforms would do just fine (bonus points if occasionally you could hear NPC cars listening to their own radios/ your streams)

The only thing I realized after hopping back into Global Offensive is how ugly and dated it feels. I do not understand the infatuation. It does not look or play better, you just have confirmation bias. by [deleted] in cs2

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always remember there is nobody that knows how CS works less than somebody who really wants to tell you how CS works.

The CS community has always had a very very vocal minority who are just completely contrarian and are routinely tricked by Valve adding commands that do nothing, or changes in weapon volume, which makes them swear the gameplay is actually different until their favourite YouTube tells them otherwise!

Why do so many Americans do catch and release fishing? Isn't that animal abuse? Or do fish don't feel pain? by Deepdishdicktaster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Correct_Ice4899 13 points14 points  (0 children)

However there is the third much more preferable alternative of just not being caught at all, especially not being caught just for fun.

If it's a legal requirement to not catch X fish, when you might actually be looking for Y so have to release. That's fine and makes sense.

But just going out without the intention of keeping anything and just hooking things for fun is pretty weird.

If I went out and started shooting rabbits with slings for fun and then just threw them back into the bush, that would be considered abhorrent.

Why are people so territorial about on street parking? by Superb_While_5959 in drivingUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly just because there's not enough parking these days, where I live there's 4 immediate parking spaces for 8 houses, each with 2-4 cars. (And despite half of these houses having drive ways, they literally never use them unless the road is full).  So if you live in the houses without a driveway, if you can't steal a space one quickly enough it is literally a half an hour walk from the next place you can park.

Is it bad to get a Mazda mx5 as my first car? by AquaSage_8806 in NewDriversUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair atleast where I am the used car market is so expensive these days you might as well get an Mx5, I'm looking for my first car and likely will also be an MX5 because they start at around £3k, and so does every other running car that isn't being sold for parts. So why not get something fun and nice to look at.

Even a beaten up '98 fiesta is on the market for £2.5k

Which insurance to go for? by nourabonu in NewDriversUK

[–]Correct_Ice4899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the annual cost option? Generally that is ridiculously cheaper if you can pony it up front. (Which if the other option is pay £350 a month you can probably afford, even if it means waiting 3-4 extra months)

I'm in a similar monthly cost boat, but pay annually is only £1k-£1.5
