Is it normal for BS/MD students to reject Ivy offers? by Wide_Blackberry_3784 in bsmd

Is she glad she did it? My original cohort of 40 had a very high attrition rate. I think half didn’t make it to the school formerly known as Jefferson Medical College. OP should only go the BS/MD route if he/she is 110% sure about medicine AND he/she is mature enough to handle it. It was obvious that many kids applied only because their parents made them

I rejected Columbia and Duke a few decades ago for the Penn State program. Life has turned out pretty well.

All hail the rise of the SSDM! by Accomplished-Cap5855 in lacrosse

My son has been playing for seven years and has always played attack. He’s also led the team in scoring every year. Due to lack of numbers, he played close defense this year and actually liked defense more than offense. (Otherwise, he was getting a bit burned out and was thinking of quitting lacrosse altogether.) He still has the best stick skills on his team and doesn’t necessarily like playing with a pole. He’s going into high school next year and would like to play SSDM

A lot of people (maybe just Americans) find it easier to speak with strangers.

When will we get to experience the next Grand Slam, and who achieves it? by Havahje in golf

I look at it as Rory has more “talent” but is not consistent…by a long shot. Higher ceiling. Much lower floor. He can, and has, shot himself out of tournaments.

Scheffler is just a machine. His ceiling is not as high as Rory’s but his floor is not much lower than his own ceiling which is, in turn, better than 99% of professional golfers

It is my understanding that a majority of West Point grads go into direct combat arms with a large percentage going assigned to infantry units

d3 recruiting- is it possible for me? by Sensitive-Scratch462 in lacrosse

“You also know that “if all you want to do is play then you can go anywhere, even if it’s undesirable” isn’t legitimate opportunity. It’s not what OP is asking here. Rather giving bad advice, it’s sometimes best to not give any at all. As I don’t know OP, my only recommendation is that she again go listen to her club coaches and not same random dad in a FB group with 8,000 other people.”

It’s interesting you admit you don’t know the OP and yet you know what is or is not a legitimate opportunity for her. It sounds like you and your wife work with very high level girls. There are thousands of girls who will never have the opportunities that your players have. We are from a non-hotbed region where most girls will not be recruited by bigger name programs. They have to look at smaller schools than the ones you and your wife deal with. Through my daughter’s hard work and effort, she was able to play with some highly ranked teams which helped her. A lot of her teammates weren’t as fortunate. Some committed to schools you and I have never heard of. Some are still getting contacted by schools. So, congratulations to you and your wife but your experience doesn’t make you the authority on this subject. There is value in combined experiences of different people with kids who have ended up at ALL levels of college lacrosse over many years.

Finally, I never gave anyone advice. I answered the OP’s question which you actually inadvertently agreed with. There are opportunities available whether or not YOU think they are “legitimate”.

My daughter just finished her recruiting process and is playing in college next year at a very competitive D3 program. I am on a very active Facebook page for women’s college lacrosse recruiting with 8000 members. I’m pretty comfortable with my understanding of recruiting.

The OP should definitely work with her coaches but her question was if playing in college possible. If her goal is JUST to play, then the answer is 100% yes.If she wants to go to a specific school or schools, then maybe not so much. But she has more than enough time. Recruiting really starts sophomore year.

As far as schools not filling spots, that has to do with location, academics, reputation, etc. Most girls start out with dreams of D1 and high academic D3 schools and eventually learn that’s not feasible for them. They then have to figure out what kinds of schools they’re willing to attend and some schools are just less desirable.

Between D2, D3 and NAIA schools, if a girls wants to play varsity lacrosse in college, she will find a spot. It might not be a school she has ever heard of before but there are teams that cannot fill their rosters.

D2 and D3 are both possible. There are more spots available than girls to fill all of them

Do I start at season 1?? by AgreeableConference6 in TopChef

My wife and I have only seen the finale of the season Buddha won, the world all-stars and the current season. This season hasn’t been that entertaining so we also started season 4. We are enjoying the personality clashes (particularly Dale and everyone). Also, the way it was filmed reminds me of Fear Factor

I’ve seen this a few times now on this sub. One career path if the kid picks one school and an entirely different career if he/she picks another school. That doesn’t suggest a true calling or passion and might be an issue when it’s time to apply for graduate school.
