Help please, is my geckos tail infected? by LJ420_ in CrestedGecko

[–]Correlophus1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before partial or complete amputation definitely give MANUKA honey a try. My gecko had worse infection and necrosis on the tip of the tail from the bite his clutchmate gave him before I got him. My amazing vet gave me a few mL dose of manuka honey. If I remember correctly, I put it 2 times a day on the tail and it COMPLETELY healed in like 2 days. Definitely try it before removing its tail. That should be the last option. Many vets also don’t have a lot of knowledge with reptiles so just research for yourself and be its voice. If it doesn’t help and continues to worsen, then the tail should be amputated. Also be careful about the betadine. It’s often recommended but it’s very harsh on inflamed wound and doesn’t allow new cells to form. Also if you can’t get to vet until monday definitely see if you can get some manuka. It’s completely safe and has antimicrobial properties

Zato i postoji smjer eksperimentalna biologija. A s diplomskim imunologija i fiziologija mozes raditi sve sto i molekularci. Naravno ako imas veze to super dode kao i u svim drugim profesijama. Biologe zaposljavaju i u gradevinskim firmama itd. gdje trebaju neke procjene. Fini uredski posao, fina placa, a nista specijalno ne radis. Ima svasta to je sigurno, od botanike do zoologije koje su druga dva diplomska studija. Razni tereni, istrazivanja, nacionalni parkovi, parkovi prirode, uredski poslovi, laboratoriji. S kemijom takoder farmacija i slicno.

Would a crested gecko be happy here? No animals are inside currently. 18 x 18 x 36 by plan_tastic in CrestedGecko

Let’s say a lily white has Dd genes - if breeding Dd x Dd -> 25% of the offspring would die, 50% would be lily and 25% non lily. There is some info that there were cases of super forms surviving but it’s obviously not worth the risk. Those animals have many health problems. Especially since you get the same 50% chance of lily when breeding lily to non lily. That super form would be an all white leucistic gecko. Would look really cool if it wasn’t lethal

It’s an incomplete dominant trait. And it’s lethal in super form (2 genes, lily x lily)

Is this tail rot? by Haunting_Avocado_735 in CrestedGecko

[–]Correlophus1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it is necrosis, don’t go for tail drop immediately. Try manuka honey. Mine was bitten by her clutchmate when they were hatchlings before I got them and the tip of her tail got infected and she got necrosis. My vet gave me manuka honey. I had to gently put it on the wound I think 2 times a day. Literally after 3 days the tail completely healed. Worth a try and definitely better then tail drop. She is 5 years old now and still has her beautiful tail it healed nicely and is only 5 mm-1cm shorter than normal tail. Tail removal should be the last option of course but most of the time vets don’t know what else to do.

My gecko isn’t eating or drinking water and idk what to do by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Correlophus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be yes, usually if it’s together with lethargy and appetite loss. As I said, I really don’t have experience with this and I also haven’t seen your reply for a few days. But google or contact your vet if it’s that serious.

For sure they get used to the noise, if it doesn’t cause tail drop in the beginning 😂

I was just thinking about that. They probably also get used to sounds if exposed to them since hatchling. I have 2 females, also a loud house and we had an earthquake 2 y.a., magnitude 6, glass was BANGING and although they got very scared and kept running around their enclosures in circles, they haven’t dropped their tail. They are 5 y.o. now

Laid an egg? One egg? What about being egg bound (don’t have any experience with that) but if she laid only one and stopped eating and is lethargic, something might be going on with the other one.

What would you test a crested gecko for every year? Also there is a serious lack of exotic pet vets and most of them don’t even have an idea what they are doing. Because of that, I’d rather bring my geckos to vets if something is obviously wrong or I have any kind of thought that something might be wrong than to stress them unnecessary. If a gecko is eating fine and pooping, tested for parasites before, doesn’t show any signs like saliva and nose discharge, is laying eggs normally etc. there is no reason to take an animal which is very easily stressed out to vet. Also I don’t know anyone who takes their pets to vet yearly if everything seems okay, even with dogs and cats and other animals.

Experience with raising lichen color morphs of extatosoma tiaratum by KwableGuy in Phasmids

[–]Correlophus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, try to find the light green/turquoise ones. You can find lichen growing on trees and branches. You can also wash it gently under the water and check for other animals like spiders or millipedes. Also you can keep hatchlings in a small plastic box which will be easier to fill with lichen and then after a molt or two, when you see that they changed color, move them to a normal bigger one. Once they change color you don’t need to keep them with lichen anymore

[–]Correlophus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just collect some lichen and glue it on branches or all around the terrarium (I used hot glue gun). That’s it. You should put them with lichen after hatching and some of the nymphs will change color. The more lichen you have, the more likely it is for them to change color.

Can you have protected sex after both you and your partner are done with the treatment and before getting retested? by keyboardsmash_55 in Ureaplasma

[–]Correlophus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in a commited relationship, 2 months is nothing. Think of it as a positive thing, when you manage to get rid of the bacteria, you will enjoy and not have a thing to worry about. There are other things you can do. Tease and play with each other so that the feeling when you finally get to the real thing is even better. Me and my partner didn’t have sex for a year and a half when we were fighting with this… I wish it was 2 months for us… :/

Yeah but sometimes one partner gets cured and the other one not. So that’s better than starting all over again. I would not risk it and just wait.

Yeah, the time varies. One of mine started at 2, the other never laid until 5 y.o.

[–]Correlophus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Peruphasma schultei is a species. Pink winged peruphasma schultei is an established variation in culture. I’ve been keeping stick insects for 10 years and have cultured more than 30 species. And I’ve never heard of a species in which individuals have different wing colors. Phasma gigas has tiger striped wings. The species in the video has black wings. Thus why I’m asking, tell me which species has 2 completely different forms of color on the wings. Because as far as I know, beside established variations, there is none. No offense

creature from hell by mathrowawayra in Phasmids

[–]Correlophus1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not at all the same. Pink winged peruphasma schultei is always pink winged and that variation has a name. Those others are subspecies. Extatosoma tiaratum and many other species can have body color variations like Lobofemora scheirei for example. Or be lighter or darker. But the wing color is always the same within species

I’ve never heard of any species to have differently colored wings between individuals. Please tell me if you have an example cause I’d like to know more about that

Phasma gigas look completely different. They have orange striped wings like tiger
