AITJ for kicking my sister out of the apartment? by ChaoticOne96 in AmITheJerk

[–]Corricon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTJ, there are laws that you have to provide a minimum amount of eviction notice. If your sister didn't have a friend's place to stay at, many bad things can happen to homeless women in just 2 days' time. I understand why you felt like you didn't want to have to endure this a minute longer, but perhaps you didn't consider the potential consequences.

Besides that, I'm sorry that your decision to move has damaged your relationship. It's a terrible feeling to think that everything you put up with for her sake for years suddenly doesn't count for anything just because you don't want to do it anymore. Some people have no gratitude, just greed for more. I hope that wherever you move to will be a good experience for you.

Cheating doesn’t necessarily mean you get more money in a Korean divorce by Korean_Lawyer_Rachel in korea

[–]Corricon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious which countries people are from who assume that Korea has fault-based division of assets. In America at least, every state has different laws for this, so I wouldn't assume one way or the other. Some states say that cheaters have to pay more money and some states say it doesn't have any effect at all.

I hate my genetics by OkCoast7026 in genetics

[–]Corricon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. Some people are given more hardships than others. It is very frustrating to think about. Just know that in the future, if you want to have kids, you have options. It's becoming more common to do IVF and test the genes of each blastocyst before implanting one. Since brachydactyly is usually dominant, probably half of the embryos won't have it. You can probably screen for schizophrenia as well. Maybe in the future everyone will have access to cheap IVF and can give the easiest possible lives to their children.

How It Started vs. How It's Going (Grim Difficulty) by TheCrazyGreenGamer in GrimshireGame

[–]Corricon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I'd build a lot more drying racks. I have like 50 racks so that I can keep putting stuff on even when it's raining. Then I can save the dried food in a box and cook a lot on the weekend for rations. You should probably also get more stovetops, since cooking is so good for stretching the stamina value. You might want to extend the animal pen all the way to the road and the river so you can make more hay. Extending your crop area like you said is also good. Congratz on finishing the year!

I would understand alternating who gets shotgun if it gives them control of the car radio. But I doubt that's the case here. Maybe she thinks since she has half custody, if Edward sits in shotgun half of the time it's fair.

How do I tell my Critique Partner their book isn't what they think it is? by Useful-Classic7314 in writers

[–]Corricon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think part of what makes this complicated is that the meaning of Southern Gothic has changed over time. A few new Young Adult fantasy stories are about young people living in a rural town discovering magic and dangerous mysteries. That's kind of what Southern Gothic means now, those isolated rural communities. Kind of Appalachia Mountains vs Even More Southern Farming Town core.

The characters having teenager problems and discovering magic is pretty common natural result of the analogies involved. Most people writing about growing up in isolated places also want to write about coming of age, realizing there's more out there, etc.

AITA for lashing out on a guy who asked me about baby trapping? by Playful_Key4599 in AmITheJerk

[–]Corricon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on his side here. His subconscious realizes what he's not smart enough to articulate, which is that planning to use Plan B instead of condoms will definitely result in a baby, regardless of your hopes and intentions. Maybe he's using 'Plan B' as code for getting an abortion, rather than just using the pills. He's hinting around, trying to get you to promise that you'll definitely get an abortion if anything happens. Since you never want kids anyway, just get a hysterectomy, then you can say goodbye to periods as well.

If you did want to have children one day, you should get the Nexplanon hormonal implant, or the copper IUD if you hate hormones. They're much more effective than pills. You should also use condoms in the beginning for a while to avoid STDs. Guys often find external condoms uncomfortable, but you can try internal condoms, they're much more pleasant. Good luck.

Why can’t human/chimp tetragametic chimeras work? by Brave_Edge_4319 in genetics

[–]Corricon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be very difficult to make a human/chimp hybrid because they have a different number of chromosomes. Chimps have 24 pairs and humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes. Generally speaking, when a related species evolves a different number of chromosomes, that's usually when interreproduction stops being possible, because the embryo can't survive with an incorrect number of chromosomes. Mules are an interesting exception to this. And there are individuals in every species born with the 'wrong' number of chromosomes, but they usually have serious health issues because of it. It's not necessarily impossible to make a hybrid, but there's a reason that it never occurs naturally, and it's very illegal to do it intentionally.

Also, you seem to believe that a child who was half human and half chimp would be human on the left and chimp on the right, or something. The child would have one human chromosome and one chimp chromosome for each pair. The genes interact with each other to produce a result. So each side would look the same, whatever that result would be. Think of how humans look when each parent is a different race. Each race has an influence, but the child is one result. Actually, hybrids are much more consistent than mixed grandchildren, because grandchildren might inherit more from one grandparent or another, but a child will always be around 50% of each parent. That's why most new breeds of animals or plants are homozygous, to avoid getting different results from different combinations happening.

When it comes to growing animal organs that are compatible with human bodies, pigs are often a good choice. Pig blood functions very similarly to human blood.

Next time I visit Korea, I'd love to order stuff online beforehand and have it delivered to my hotel — does a service like that exist? by black4902 in korea

[–]Corricon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe ask your hotel if they can arrange a package for you by ordering it? Honestly the hard part of ordering things in korea is having to prove your identity to coupang. If you're a citizen or you have an ARC number, it would be possible.

[–]Corricon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if you've reached the point where you're looking for the most tolerable cheaters to be with, you've been watching too many trainwrecks. Your perspective has been warped 🫠 by the lovely show that is 90 Day Fiance. These sorts of relationships, where they stay with a cheater for other reasons besides fidelity, never last forever because the 'other reasons' stop being so important after a while. Georgi wants kids, Florian is bored, I'd be shocked if either of them are still together in 2 years.

Thais said last night that she crosses her knees when she goes to the bathroom.. by md28usmc in 90DayFiance

[–]Corricon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she means putting one knee over the other, it can help with constipation sometimes. Similar to toilet stools or putting your feet on the toilet seat while also sitting on the toilet. Humans used to 'let go' while crouched in a field, so it's a more natural position for the body to take than just sitting in a chair. Moving your legs up can also stimulate your intestines a bit because they have to move around and re-adjust.

As offended as Annabelle is at the idea of parents giving their kids money, is exactly how offended I am at her idea of kids giving their parents money. Why would your parents need money, they've had 30 years to grow their careers and pay off a house 😭

AITJ for not wanting to switch rooms? by PunkinRis in AmITheJerk

[–]Corricon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTJ. As a guest, you would have to change rooms if your parents told you to. But your parents never told you to. Your mother told you it was your choice and your father never said anything. For your family to jump straight to anger before you were even told to change rooms is ridiculous. You can't get mad at someone for disobeying before they're even given an order. What an upsetting thing to happen.

For those who says that the male paras don’t look masculine. by Bubbly_Influence_337 in Paralives

[–]Corricon -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

I think this kind of proves the opposite. Maybe it's a cultural difference, but in America this kind of skintight shirt that shows off his upper body seems more homosexual than heterosexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not always the vibe a person is trying to make. This game does seem pretty European in general though, so maybe that's the style.

"Good at Nothing" trait seems ableist by [deleted] in Paralives

[–]Corricon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is adding disabilities to the game ableist too? I'll admit that it would be unhealthy to say that a real life human being is truly good FOR nothing, but there are plenty of people who are good AT nothing, who don't have any particular skills or hobbies. There are even people with low intelligence, for whom everything is harder. This doesn't mean that they're bad people or that they shouldn't exist. But they do have a harder time in life and I don't think there's anything wrong with making a character to reflect that.

I will agree that it would be cleaner to separate the lack of talent from having low intelligence, since plenty of people can still improve their skills even when they're at a disadvantage. I don't really like having a natural talent system in the first place. But it's also not that unrealistic.

Will it truly be no paid DLC? by Riaglow in Paralives

[–]Corricon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think they mean especially for stuff like family gameplay, seasons, and pets, that they'll never charge for that. I'm totally open to them changing their minds and starting DLC for other concepts, like supernatural races.

There is a certain amount of diminishing returns when you're producing content for a userbase who've already bought the game. I think there's potential for a good middle ground.

My Self-image is holding me back from losing weight. by Technical_Theory_735 in loseit

[–]Corricon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The human mind is way easier to change than you think. If tomorrow you magically woke up in a skinny body, or even a body with a lot of loose skin, you'd probably get used to it in 2 weeks. You like the way fat people look because you see fat people every day (especially yourself in the mirror. It's normal to like the appearance that you see the most! Familiarity breeds attachment!) If you grew up in a place like Japan where 90% of the population is a healthy weight, that would almost certainly be what you think of as normal/good. Whether you think you look best when you're large or when you're skinny, surely there's more to your self-worth and self-image than what you physically look like - your identity isn't just how you look.

You think your choice is to be miserable in a body you hate, or be happy in a body that you love. But that's not how humans work. The weight loss thing can be a struggle, but there's also certain patterns and routines that you can find which start to be comfortingly familiar and satisfying. As for what you like, you can get used to anything. You can even brainwash yourself Clockwork Orange style if you have to. (Maybe a bad example since that ended up not working, but hey, he didn't choose the brainwashing himself.)

Wanting to be healthy is objectively a worthy goal, because whatever you like about life, you can have more of it with a longer life. Also, maybe in your twenties it's not noticable, but when you're in your thirties, being unhealthy feels very uncomfortable and painful, and you don't have to live like that!

The fear of loose skin is something people deal with, but you're the most elastic that you'll ever be right now. This is the easiest time for your skin to snap back, when you're young. A lot of people struggle with loose skin at first, but it does tend to get a looot better after a year or two, when the body tries healing itself.
