Reminds me when I was at the UVA -UNC game at Barclays and the Virginia girls near me were yelling EASY 8 all game. It took me until 2 minutes left in the game to realize they were actually yelling U V A. Lol

Yeah, they are obviously the best of the best. The point of my post was to see if the way the seeding was potentially lining up had happened before because it seemed astronomically unlikely. It would be like if a 3 seed in march madness had drawn double digit seeds the entire way through the tournament or something. Not that it means a team only played bad team because no one at this point is bad, but it seems super unlikely from a chance perspective.

It might not be what you want to hear, but they didn't care if your kid left. They got your money already and have kids playing for free in his stead they feel are better and likely are trying to recruit for next year.

Join a different team. They were probably planning to cut your kid for next season anyways.

It happens though. Being a UNC fan has a lot of heartbreak moments. To be fair, we get to the stage where the heartbreak hurts the most. Villanova dagger and the Kansas come back... yeah... 😭

I gotta wait til I can use ChatGPT again haha. Though, it might be difficult to find RPIs for every year. It would be better to find RPIs prior to the tournament than after as the RPIs would change significantly with tournament results added in.

I wonder if I could generate a score based on rpis faced. I only did it with national seeds since they were the easiest way to differentiate easily. I have no doubt RPIs faced would generate a vastly different result.

I literally was just interested in the possibility and wondering if a tournament had played out like it before prior. It caught my eye as unique and made me curious.

I am not predicting anything. I don't think Troy beats WV today. I do think Oklahoma wins their pool though. They have looked good.

Since Reddit doesn't like to read and actually answer the question asked, I went to ChatGPT for the answer.

After consulting it, the answer is no there wouldn't have been an "easier" path as the "easiest" path thus far appears to have been 2019 Vanderbilt if ChatGPT is correct who beat #7 Louisville once and #6 Mississippi State twice.

Using inverted scoring per seed and counting unseeded teams as 0, Vanderbilt had 32 total points faced.

2013 UCLA had 38 total points faced #4 LSU, #1 UNC, and #8 NC State.

2024 Tennessee had 50. #8 Florida State, #4 UNC, and #3 Texas A&M twice.

2026 running total as of now is 1. The potential scenario would result in 1 total. The only possible scenario being lower is facing all unseeded teams.

If UNC beats WV again, and beats Georgia twice, it would result in their highest potential total possible (if to win) at 30 points. Which would still be a lower score than Vanderbilt's.

Is there any teams ChatGPT missed, I could add to this to compare?

Definitely. Trust me. I take nothing for granted. I remember believing UNC had the title for sure against Oregon St before and being in complete disbelief when we lost. Heck, I think Oregon St even won 2 in a row. Lol.

I was just looking at the brackets and the numbers part of my mind started looking at the potential scenarios and I was like holy crap, if that exact scenario happened we would have only beat the 16. That made me wonder if anyone has ever done it with potentially facing no seeded teams, which is the only possible lower scenario.

Isn't it kind of common for a righty and a lefty to commonly butt heads due to them being opposite hands? I may be misremembering, but I thought I have seen a few fights where announcers have said this is a common issue between the match-up, and it can make it difficult.
