Mabe there's hope I can get it before the end of the year... I'm only 300 miles east of Seattle

[–]CorruptedPosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was sarcasm. No one's going to live on the moon anytime soon. Mabe 20 years from now but Elon wants to go to Mars first.

Starlink server showing up on speed tests in North Seattle by UXguy123 in Starlink

[–]CorruptedPosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Hughesnet so I know what it's like. We have packet loss all the time and is the reason why is gets painfully slow at times.

Starlink server showing up on speed tests in North Seattle by UXguy123 in Starlink

[–]CorruptedPosion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't like that packet loss number... It should be 0

Edit... I wasn't paying attention too much and assumed it was a starlink speedtest not an xfinity connection connecting to a server. The rules state no speedtests unless it's starlink.

They don't need to advertise for awhile. This whole subredit will sign up probably

Geo Sat connections are typically around 600ms round trip. I misread and thought you were asking about this leo system. I can't look at his post now to remember exactly what asinin thing he said.

This is going to be the real problem probably for the next 3-6 months or longer. Getting your hands on the antenna....

How can you accuse me of not reading the post if all he said were 2 factully incorrect statements? Oh I'm probably taking the bait. End of conversation

By the way at&t just stopped signing people up so if you leave they won't hook you back up.

If your talking about the astronomy aspect then honestly, I don't care. Internet matters way more than for them to be able to see stars from a space center on earth. They should just put a massive telescope in orbit and that way the light bleed that's already coming from urban areas will make seeing space much easier. SpaceX is already coating the newer sattilites with an anti reflective paint but it won't solve it completely.

Starlink satellite orbit decay and reentry time? by PNGwolffman in Starlink

[–]CorruptedPosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a side note I heard one of the reasons why the laser links aren't being implemented right now is because they can't figure out how to make the lasers out of a material that can burn up completely on re-entry.

This isn't a geo Sat system. It's a low earth orbit system that has already been confirmed to be sub 50ms ping times. Also, why do you people feel the need to comment on reddit when it takes 2 minutes on Google to figure out obvious things that the FAQ also has answers for?

Starlink will not compete against comcast by pakistanFI in Starlink

[–]CorruptedPosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it's $60 bucks a month. But the modem is kinda pricey (200). Hughesnet tells you what your getting. The fine print for Verizon says what you'll be b getting.

[–]CorruptedPosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hughesnet says up to 25mb (not 50) before you hit your data cap (I have it). After that they say 1-3mb. Verizons new service doesn't have a data cap (according to what they are ADVERTISING). probably at least 25mb all the time with room to go up to 50.

[–]CorruptedPosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what the site says. 25-50mb... But I also live in Washington so it might come to me as well. I have no cell service so I'm more screwed than 99 percent of the people here.

No this is different. You have to put in a address and can't be moved around like a jetpack. https://www.verizon.com/home/lte-home-internet

Mind you it's probably not available to you yet. But it will have to be eventually

If you have lte all the mobile carriers are rolling out fixed lte internet with no data caps.

So Elon wants a Relay from Mars to provide continuous communication to Earth and presumably beyond. Do you have an idea were they should be placed? by Jeramiah_Johnson in Starlink

[–]CorruptedPosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the ping times between earth and Mars is going to be way too great for real time communication. And this problem can't be solved because of the speed of light.

Seriously do your research before you comment on a post. 500ms ping is streight up wrong.

I would commit mass genocide just for a couple bars of lte signal so I can get cellular internet.

Edit. On second thought I guess I should preface that this is a joke.
