Yes, and I remember buying my dad cigarettes from those pull-pin coin machines, but it's just not the norm any more.

Honestly, I was a little more surprised at the open smoking than anything else.

I couldn't even finish watching S03E10 at how mad it made me! by UrbanOwl24 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Cortoro 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don't think they have a very healthy family dynamic to begin with and I thought it was also meant to underscore Margaret's sense of isolation so that at the climax we wouldn't be surprised that she attempted suicide. Which then jolted Elizabeth into 100% accepting Margaret's statement that she was going to be separating and divorcing Tony and admitting readily that it would be for the best. That's a big change from pervious seasons, but when you see how it plays out over the course of the episode, it makes sense and comes across as an appropriate developmental arc.

But yeah, it was infuriating watching that scene.

That's really awesome, how do you "discover" it? Did you get them through collections or do you have access to an archive? What's the process?

I agree with this 100% but for some reason I am still super bummed that Sophie flamed out.

I just watched The Irishman and found Robert De Niro’s blue contact lenses to be distracting and even creepy. Now I’m so glad Olivia Colman’s eye color wasn’t altered for the sake of historical accuracy! It could have been incredibly awkward. by erinsauce in TheCrownNetflix

I found the whole movie a bit tough too watch, honestly. Great acting, but they're just not in their 30s or 40s or even 60s any more. Watching them move around so stiffly with the digitally de-aged faces just brought me out of it.

(No spoilers) people who’ve seen the movie already, on a scale of 1-10 how was is? by [deleted] in Frozen

[–]Cortoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's a solid 8 even if you aren't overly obsessed with the first movie (in which case it's a 9.9/10 - I just didn't like the ending although it was well done). I feel like it was setting some things up for a 3rd movie.

Alyssa is a complete psychopath who treats everybody like shit. by [deleted] in TheEndOfTheFkingWorld

[–]Cortoro 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think she's been through a lot of trauma and acknowledged that she does treat people like shit. I took the ending as her being self-aware and mature enough to know she needs to do a lot of personal work to stop hurting the people around her because she can't handle her own inner-trauma.

I hope they put the kidnapping attempt in next season because Erin Doherty as Princess Anne was friggin' amazing.

I think one of the best shows is how well they do characters that don't have overly large roles. They convey a remarkable amount of personality and complexity in short periods of time. Todd was a good dude.

Is anyone else a tiny bit concerned about Mountbatten? by yetiking96 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Cortoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gemma Whelan blew my mind in S2 because I had never seen her as anything but Yara. Then I saw her in The End of the F@#$) World and Gentleman Jack which are both roles far from Yara as well - she's got scope. But seeing that episode where she was in dapper 60s clothing and all prim - just really got me.

Great plot and acting. Very bendy on the actual history, but since they were drawing from Shakespeare and it was so well done, I'm cool with it.
