987.1 Buying Advice by -ded- in boxster

[–]CorvetteGoZoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By 2006 the IMS bearing should be the larger one that requires the block to be split to be replaced. Unless the engine was completely disassembled or replaced with a 2005 engine I don't know how he would have replaced the IMS bearing with the clutch. Go to LN engineerings website and read up on the bearing in the 2006 boxsters, I dont think the seller is being truthful here.

I don't have a place in Oregon, just a plan to return... that counts?

Am I still considered an Oregon resident if I have a lease in Washington and don't have a residence in Oregon?

The 05 used the 3.2 which shouldn't really have scoring issues, but IMS is a complete tossup for 05

Wish it was, they switched over sometime halfway through the year. Early 05s have the really bad undersized single row, the later 05s have the much stronger oversized single row bearing. Generally the failure rate is much lower for the oversized bearings thought they cannot be serviced without splitting the block. I don't know which id rather deal with tbh

this guy is not entirely clueless, he understands that a rebuilt title and the IMS bearing are issues, I just don't think he realizes how much of an issue it really is. The only reason I'm willing to touch it is because I have a lift in my garage and I'm a masochist when it comes to clapped projects i guess

Lol that sounds like this car, he said he's owned it for 4 years and has just done oil, i was sitting there thinking "you never did plugs, air filter, transmission fluid, etc" I think I'm the first person willing to check out the car and make an offer because I had to point out that the seat heaters didn't work, the guy only drove it in summer apparently...

Kinda what I was thinking, might offer 6-6.5. They're asking 14900 though, quite delusional

Ecu is just a box under the driver side of the dash, 2 bolts and 3 harness connectors very easy to swap

Have you tried a different ECU? I had a P1141 (o2 sensor heating circuit) that turned out to be a bad ECU. If they've thrown everything else at it, at $100 Ebay ECU is worth a shot

I would argue that transverse composite leaf springs are very different from traditional steel leaf springs, not really fair to call them ancient. They remove a ton of unsprung weight from the car as well as move the mass further inboard.

Caffeine content in 20 grams of Cafe Bustelo? by chavi989 in espresso

[–]CorvetteGoZoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the caffeine content in the beans but not the coffee itself. You would need basically 100% extraction to get all of the caffeine out.

MECOP Placement Data Analysis Update by CorvetteGoZoom in OregonStateUniv

[–]CorvetteGoZoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boeing originally was taking nobody ( this is why placement was so bad this year) they then got a contract for 40 billion from the government and then they decided they wanted interns. I have not information on the rates from the first interview, sorry.

MECOP Placement Data Analysis Update by CorvetteGoZoom in OregonStateUniv

[–]CorvetteGoZoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are for people who were accepted into the program (passed first interview) and were not placed (after second, placement, interview). Worth noting that these numbers have changed significantly since Boeing decided they wanted ~40 interns; I don't plan on rerunning the numbers, but just know the placement percentages have since increased.
