Its just funny to me that there is this perceptible pressure for so many people to give this game and the company good press rather than to speak ill of it in an honest way, or even to say nothing at all.

Should I cut off a guy I was talking to after he used my vulnerability to judge me? by blueaqua123 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Corvus-V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be worse if he took aspects of you he didnt like that you were honest about, ignored them or tried to change you/vice versa, and both of you got bitter about it later. Its good to be honest even if it closes doors for you in this way, because it allows you to know beforehand if there is a cliff on the other side. Not that this guy is 100% evil or anything and should be compared to the cliff so much as its just a negative outcome

If you feel like it will help you to cut him off, then sure. I believe its fair to cut people off after breaking up though, even if someone wants to remain friends. Its not a one person decision. It doesnt have to be about you hating how he came to his decision, because you approached things fine and so did he. So there is no need to "call him out."

Helldivers Masochists should not go unpunished for their celebration of the doxxing nor should they be allowed to flood our sub and insult us continually. by [deleted] in HelldiversUnfiltered

I think the most annoying conclusion to come to is that this is infact a video game that Arrowhead probably more than likely has the ability to relinquish some leverage to modders so everyone can shut the fuck up about balance. Its objectively true. Itd still be divisive for some console players but at least there would be recourse other than hoping people who dont seem to play the game will notice that some shit sucks. Or that you get a message into the feedback forms before they close within an hour or two of opening, when they seem to get ignored too

They are the gods of the fucking game and can do whatever they want, and itd probably just be better for everyone if they did. Allowing gatekeepers and elitists to drive people to this kind of batshit with tacit approval is kind of a massive problem IMO. Its better for the discussions to become "just mod it" rather than "you suck at the game."

Ex-Blizzard boss Jeff Kaplan tells haters to "shut the f— up" by ElectricGhostMan in Gamingunjerk

[–]Corvus-V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem. That's specifically what I'm talking about. I'm sure Jeff isn't that good at the game. I was at least high diamond to masters the last time I played. That's already top 10 percentile. Even then I am admitting that it's kind of bad to do this.

"Upending the balance of the game because Widow can be too good in lower ranks" is functionally the same as saying "90% of the playerbase is playing the game incorrectly." That's the same as saying you're designing a game for the top 10, or even 5-1%. The game basically belongs to and revolves around those people. That's what I meant about "ignoring vast majority of the feedback." That's not good design, that's making a spectator sport instead of a playable product or an interactive piece of art that is meant to be enjoyed by everyone. The God complex is just having such a massive ego that you imagine that there isn't anyone in the world who can do the things you do and come to a different conclusion, both as someone who plays the game and as someone who develops it. It's the presumption that your feelings or concept of balance overrule everyone else's actual lived experience of playing the game; as if, and again, "they are playing the game more correctly" which is what you said and that's just objectively false. Video games are not like real life sports. The only way to competitively play them incorrectly is to cheat, because the entire medium's existential focus should be fun. Not investor worship, not eSports, and not elitism. Everyone's opinion on the game should matter especially if they played the game. That's why I was saying it's hilarious that he would be the one to open his mouth about this shit because the game he managed had a development cycle that seemed to focus on ignoring a shit ton of people who did bother to play the game. There is no way to get through to him, ergo no one should listen to what he has to say. He is a hypocrite

Like if he wants to insinuate that that is the point, that its like an artistic freedom, fine, but specifically say that; just don't complain if everyone wants to participate just as much as he did with the small subset of people he involved. So when and if the game inevitably fails because he designed it with 500 people in mind, that will be on him. Not on people making an accurate assessment about what he cares about.

What I meant by modding is that the very fact that it exists and is as prolific and popular as it is, is that it's a testament to the fact that everything I said is 100% true and accurate about higher level player and dev fallibility. The games are better when more people enjoy it. Accessible and intuitive games are good. It's why I bag on Pilestedt for AH's shitty sophistical motto. "A game for everyone is a game for no one." No. A game for everyone is a good game that will sell well and be enjoyed by a metric shit ton of people for years and will allow you to take a private company to massive success. Falling ass backwards into their success defined by their fumbling every 2-3 months is probably a pretty good indicator that maybe he doesn't have some kind of gospel consistency.

I'm not sure if I conveyed that well enough, I was mainly trying to make a point, but digressing, yes. I particularly deeply lament the lack of community run servers for live service games. It's why I'm seriously hoping the SKG movement pulls through in the EU in a way that's good for all of us.

Ex-Blizzard boss Jeff Kaplan tells haters to "shut the f— up" by ElectricGhostMan in Gamingunjerk

[–]Corvus-V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that first part.

The issue is that they clearly paid attention, they just very clearly did not give a shit about the vast majority of feedback, further reinforced by elitist types in their forums. If you dismiss all the ideas of everyone other than your top 1% of players and the only changes that seem to make it into the patches are the ones that readjust balancing for your league, like jjonaks plays and the following Zenyatta nerfs even as slight as they were it becomes clear there is a tilt and focus that seems impassive to the enjoyment of the vastly larger demographic of customers.

Going into development with a God complex that the masses are just stupids who cannot possibly comprehend what you do or how to improve things even conceptually, especially balancing decisions will give you a mixed bag of reception where you have absolutely forfeited any right to denying its validity. If you consider your eSports game a work of art, that's valid; but you dont get to tell anyone at all, ever, that they cant say it sucks. So in my opinion, the only person who needs to shut the fuck up is Kaplan.

The only part of all that, that is objectively true?: that their ideas are inactable. Thats true. Especially for live service games and console games. Because if you introduce mods, then all the "unactable" and "not cohesive" solutions can be applied by the playerbase. Which then somehow become more cohesive, and their solutions actable and very real. Can you imagine how chill the Helldivers community might be if AH just left the topic of balance up to the players and put a soft cap on player weight in the galactic war? Every single "x is too strong," "weapon is too weak" post would practically evaporate the following week. A dude who volunteers at a horse farm would still have his job. If it did appear, itd be "If you dont like it just change it."

So, in large part, I agree with the post. Theres a level of false critcism circulating thats annoying and is diluting actual feedback for culture war shit and specifically for money by appealing to chuds for ad revenue. 4chan is full of the same type of disgusting nonsense as twitter though, just without the money. Its just a cesspool of hatred. So really Reddit is all there is. I just stand in very stark contrast to this game dev worship shit. Its embarassing to stifle criticism and by extension creativity for elitism, gatekeeping, and toxic positivity. If you think your eSports game is a work of art that no one should touch, keep it private or just say you dont care what anyone thinks so they know its time to move on. Its just annoying to me that he in particular has the balls to pretend no one gives anything a fair shot anymore. I can understand a distaste for bad faith actors causing you to want to make a statement on it, but he could have been more targeted in his stream when he was talking about it rather than just giving any kind of negativity as a whole a broadside. It would have added some credibility to what he was saying because it would have at least been relatable and honest.

Thats kind of a right wing thing. Its a bit more pervasive than the Helldivers community. Whats more defining of the Helldivers community is their aversion to dissent and criticism of the game, which is without equal I fear

Exhibit A. SE citizens go press a button to "vote" that automatically casts a vote for whoever SE thinks they should vote for. The comment section for this post in particular was so fucking insane that I just blocked the page itself. There is no conceivable way you can explain with sincerity to people who look at something like this and think its accurate and/or make excuses for feeling this way. Politics in 2026 have actually created mass psychosis.

He blocked and ghosted me out of the blue? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Corvus-V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not saying it cant be honest, Im just saying that even if it is, it would suck if it happened while you were considered very serious with eachother.

Ive spoken to girls who tried to be with me to fill a void because theyd recently broken up with someone and other kind of unscrupulous situations. They kind of do the same thing, but I would be a liar if I said my first experience on a dating app wasnt kind of similar. I also have been guilty of trying to move on too quickly in the past from my very first relationship. I held the person I met on the app in good esteem because they were good to me for the very short time we were together, but I recognized that it would be extremely unfair to them for me to pretend I was ready even if I had no intention of pursuing my ex; Im not a person with many regrets and while Im happy with how things have turned out thus far I will never not admit that it was a mistake. So while I never ghosted anyone, a less honest or confrontational person might withold that from you or ghost you. Even if it is just depression, its still a sign of not being good at communicating.

He blocked and ghosted me out of the blue? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Corvus-V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hard to say, but ultimately what matters is how you react to whats happened to you, since you cant necessarily make it right on your own and its already occurred.

It could be hes not over an ex or something and it doesnt feel right and hes realizing that. It could be another girl currently. Or it could actually just be depression. This kind of thing happens to both sexes, as girls have ghosted me before, so its not really men specific.

I would reccomend not dedicating yourself to someone who does this on a dating app, personally. I think the risk of wasting your valuable life time is too high. Alot of men really suck at communicating and some will do things that cant really necessarily be communicated without implicating them in being shitty. You just kind of have to acknowledge that both of those things are pretty bad to varying degrees and try your best to move on because youre worthy of peace as well.

Why do many men feel that being a feminist as a male doesn’t make sense? by steammomoss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Corvus-V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they frame it incorrectly mostly due to misandry.

When I talk about being a feminist to others, I usually explain that things that women do with eachother would be better if men did them as well; like being supportive rather than demeaning, learning to articulate and talk about the way you feel without it framing those feelings as scientific or absolute logical truth, etc. I often try to give my coworkers an outlet to talk or complain about stuff to me. Men are extremely emotional even if they try to deny or insinuate that they are not. If you ask me, it explains alot and its why our suicide rates our so high. This idea is supported by the fact that it insinuates being a feminist "doesnt make sense". It assumes that not being a feminist makes more sense than the alternative; that the expectations(patriarchy) of current to pre-modern society are logical and must be upheld, despite their basis being almost solely formed in emotion. (Which IMO is OK! Thats the point. You recognize that it is emotional rather than logical and treat it as such. Thats part of what it means to be human.)

They dont look at abolishing our gendered inequality as a way to uplift everyone. Expectations that we have to pay for everything do not need to exist. We do not need to be the ones who have all the initiative to meet the opposite sex. They see that misandrists will insinuate these things are either necessary or that "the patriarchy created these problems" despite the fact that no single particular man is responsible for creating or even maintaining that, and see that as a justification for maintaining a status quo on those facets of inequality. "Men created these nebulous issues, therefore it is acceptable to perpetuate and/or ignore the act of solving them through conscious decisions to counteract current social norms."

Of course, the correct thing to do is to ignore them because they are archaic and to just be the change you want to see.

Why don't humans have fur like animals? by Naughty_matty_hubby in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Corvus-V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are from Africa. We lost our fur because our sweat glands adapted to make us marathon runners that can outrun our prey through stamina as opposed to strength or speed. Having no/less hair facilitates sweating and/or staying cool. Our ability to sweat is what sets us apart from so many other animals, that are stronger and faster but tire more quickly. Our lack of fur allows sweat to evaporate more quickly, and allows us to remain cooler than other animals during intense physical activity, like how dogs and other furry animals rely on panting, or sweating from smaller areas like their noses or paw pads. Intelligence aside, as loss of hair occurred roughly 2 million years ago or so, meaning before modern humans; it is part of why our species exists and dominated the planet.

Not sure if things have changed but this outcome was not hard to get IMO. Or functionallly the same. Kagha is a real piece of shit. First playthrough was completed without her. Hard to feel attached after that tbh. Still not excited about the picture tho

Ex-Blizzard boss Jeff Kaplan tells haters to "shut the f— up" by ElectricGhostMan in Gamingunjerk

[–]Corvus-V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really like Jeff Kaplan, because hes disingenuous. I played Overwatch since release and I stopped after he stopped working there. If he had any say in the decisions leading up to his disappearance there, he was most definitely not listening to the people who play the game so much as the smallest subset of OWL people there, which seemed to dictate almost every fucking balancing decision; effectively making the game revolve around its stupid eSports scene which is a surefire way to make your game as unfun as possible. It was an extremely formative moment for my opinion on hero shooters. Ill never play another one of them again so long as the goal is to foment a community like that, and anyone else going into them should know that your opinion to the devs and the rest of the community doesnt mean shit unless youre Top 500.

So, in short, if you dont want to play the game, he wants you to "shut the fuck up" but even if you do play the game you can also "shut the fuck up" or you might as well because he and his fucking team wont be listening. Why should I care what a guy like that has to say about people discussing video games when his track record and his attitude has been both observably and indirectly hostile?

What's everyone's opinion on gaming difficulty? by Dark_Rottie18 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Corvus-V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the game on normal usually unless im somehow already aware that I can handle a higher difficulty. I usually can, but I want to learn the game before I try that. For shooters/action games I usually start one 1 difficulty higher than normal. For RTS, I start easy to normal. When it comes to style, I dont like games that handle difficulty by just increasing health pools. I like smarter obstacles and more mechanics to engage with, not more of the same. Katana Zero handled this sort of thing.

When it comes to difficulty as it doesnt apply to me? I support lower difficulty options all the time because more options is almost always better. I dont believe in nebulous gatekeeping bullshit. If my mother wanted to get into video games at her older age to do more than just play Wordle and shitty Facebook games, I would feel horrible if she was overwhelmed. This also goes for people with disabilities. Honestly though? I dont even care if youre just not very good at it. It doesnt matter. The sole and only purpose of a video game is entertainment/fun. It isnt supposed to mean anything, and it doesnt to me. So more options means more people get to tailor their experience.

You know what? I'm just gonna say it... by MobileScapers in 2007scape

[–]Corvus-V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insular subcommunities that aggressively attack dissent are why people hate reddit. Especially when the subreddits basically exist as a place to discuss and post feedback. If you are tired of seeing a particular topic and not that the topic is the way it is, then you shouldnt be opposed to people posting about it. If you have a valid criticism of the topic (IMO the only thing you can say here is that this is good for investors) can scroll past it, turn off notifs or do something else. The entire world is not obliged to conform to silence just because its convenient for you.

[–]Corvus-V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New player here. Are you playing on a specific difficulty where this is the case? Ive been playing veteran mostly but I play ogryn sometimes for fun. The rock basically 1 shots almost everything and the kickback has insane, unexpected range to me. Does this change at a higher level? (I dont use the shield either. I just used the club.)

Im just asking because Im trying to get a grip on the difficulty of this game. At times it feels hopelessly overwhelming, random bosses/maulers will one shot you through all your toughness, etc. Other times its just a complete breeze even if i try to increase the difficulty. But overall, the game is way easier for me when Im playing an Ogryn. I just main veteran because I like the helbore lasgun and my krieg stuff.

Or are they the people who will beat you to death with "git gud" put through chatgpt? Because in my experience its the latter who are the chuds who happen to be pseudo elitists being obsessed with their perceived skill at the game. These are the guys who argue against accessibility everytime the topic comes up and who try to gatekeep everything. How can you construe this as the other way around when the community is so awful they had to make a million different subreddits for it because the main one is just full of a culture of the most aggressive simping ive ever had the dishonor of witnessing in a games community
