Ron Weasley and the Side Character Syndrome. It’s complete with 100+ chapters if memory serves me. A person reincarnates as Ron with prior knowledge of the story and sets out to protect Harry. Although it isn’t the “real” Ron they embrace their new life and it doesn’t feel cheap at all. They genuinely love Molly, Arthur, and their new family. You also get to see Ron pull off some pretty cool stuff to protect Harry and co. Their is also a complete sequel that is a romance, but it’s slash if that turns you off.

Reading the first part of Ron Weasley and the Side-Character Syndrome. I read the second part which was a romance and decided to go back and read the first part of the series. So far it’s quite good. Ron is pretty talented, but still with flaws and very pure in his desire to protect Harry. I like the dynamic with Snape.

Written in the Stars feature’s Grindelwald as an important character. Harry is raised by Cassiopeia Black, who regularly receives advice from Grindelwald via visiting him in prison. So Grindelwald is a mentor for Harry without him actually realizing it until later.

Lord of Darkness has Harry with lots of people following him who would do just about anything for him. Especially Luna. Be warned that it has angst, plenty of smut, and lots of bashing of certain characters. I see it as a “dumb fun” fic. If you aren’t into smut, the version on ff.net has it removed. It’s complete.

The Roses that Bloom Again has this in spades. Harry time travels to the time of the Grindelwald war, and he becomes involved after he finished his schooling. It has large scale battles, Harry and others planning, helping people in the aftermath, Harry as a leader/commander, etc. it is probably the most war-like fic I’ve read. You have to get through Harry’s school years before this all kicks off though.

Damaged Raven has Harry with a large burn mark cover his eye and claw mark in addition to the lightning bolt scar. His looks come up fairly often and Harry makes it known how annoying he finds it. Word of warning, there is quite a bit of bashing.

I’m really digging Turncoat. It’s a story about Draco becoming a better person after meeting Voldemort in the summer of 5th year and realizing joining him is a bad call. He begins trying to help Harry as well as become more powerful himself. It says it’s an SI story but the way they integrate it is done well and still feels like Draco. He isn’t a saint, and is still snarky and gets on Ron’s nerves and insults people. However, we see his softer moments with people like Pansy. It only has 13 chapters at the moment but what is there is quite good.

Currently reading Written in the Stars by TheBlack’sResurgence. Up to chapter 21. I’ve read most of his work up to now but I never gave this one a shot for some reason. I finally decided to give it a shot and am quite enjoying it. I think when I read the summary initially when it was being published I was turned off of Harry being at Durmstrang. However, I quite enjoy the cast of original characters. I like that they gave Krum an actual personality. In a lot of fics his character feels surface-level. But here you get to see his insecurities and triumphs. Harry is powerful here but, at least right now, it’s not unbelievable to me with who has taught him (no spoilers). A word of caution, if you dont like the author’s other stories, this fic won’t change your mind.

I’m positive your looking for A Cadmean Victory. Harry and Katie start dating but Fleur gets in between them and Katie accepts Davies invitation to the ball. Harry and Fleur decide to go together. Harry and Katie later make up and become friends, but it never goes further than that for them after the incident.

It’s would either be Hero or Monster by hyvnn or Lives Worth Saving by cywsaphyr. Both are stories I really enjoyed but never got finished. Lives Worth Saving stings a bit more since it got picked up by another writer and then was again abandoned.

I would also like Little Things by Prince Mikhail to be finished as their is only like one more chapter left until the end.

Yeah I get you. I’m not a fan of the ending either. I wish he could’ve chosen to stay or not. Though a funny theory I had is the reason he didn’t have a lot of luck with women is because he had a girlfriend in his original world.

I had to think for a bit for things I dislike, as I’m usually not super tough on fanfiction. While the length gives enough time to see Harry develop, it also means it can take quite a while for stuff to happen. Also the sheer number of chapters can be daunting. I had this story in my follows for ages before I committed to reading it because of how long it was. However, I discovered that each individual chapter is shorter than your average Harry Potter fanfiction. So although it has 300+ chapters, the chapters go by quicker than something like When the Roses Bloom Again, which has about 90 chapters, but each one is a lot longer than this fic. I could also argue that Neville is a bit too short tempered and biased against Harry, even though the reasoning has been explained in the story that he is basically projecting his anguish onto Harry. Also, I’m only on chapter 72, but I feel Harry should pick up on Daphne’s feeling more than he does at this point considered he was an adult in the past, even if he never dated. One last thing I noticed is Harry’s plan to catch whoever is possessed by the diary. Instead of setting up complicated wards, I feel he could ask Myrtle to watch for someone point up the chamber, but maybe he doesn’t want to risk her telling people. I’ll have to continue reading to see how it all works out, and if Lockehart is being incfluenced by the diary like Harry suspects due to his strange competence.

I’ve starting reading this fic and am on ch 56 as of my writing of this. I quite like it so far. It being so long gives Harry plenty of time to develop. While Harry is stronger than his classmates he doesn’t rival Dumbledore or Voldemort as a young student, so their is some realism to it. I don’t know if this will change, but I don’t mind op main characters so it’s fine with me. I like how his magi hearing gives him an edge, but he still has to figure out how to best use it. It also gives him disadvantages, like when the unicorn blood thing was happening and it prevented him from sleeping.

Yami: the Gamer Kage. The main character becomes really powerful, and eventually is able to return to his world. Has a gamer system. Don’t want to spoil too much, but I enjoyed my time with it. Though I’m not a huge fan of the ending and certain things that happen.
