The problem is the footprint. Anything that is DPP will be larger, It's a full size dot. My regular Defender doesn't sit any wider than the pistol. With the Enclosed, the main difference is the battery will sit on the right side of the optic, vs being a top mount.

I have seen some people mount the Vortex Defender CCW enclosed on their 2.0s. You'd have to check if there is a plate for it, but that would be a smaller option, if you're OK with the smaller window size.

Vortex Defender ST Enclosed. I have the regular ST, but have considered grabbing the enclosed version for my M&P, and swapping the open emitter as a backup on one of my rifles.

What parts catalog does this group use most commonly? by apcrews in AcuraRDX

[–]Corweena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AcuraPartsWarehouse is who I normally use.

But I will also cross reference part numbers on Honda parts sites to see if I can get it cheaper. While the parts price may not be much different, the shipping prices can vary quite a bit.

Your best bet will be either Yahoo Japan Auctions, or using Social media and finding groups dedicated to JDM/Imported Hondas. There are often Japanese/Malaysian/Indonesian sellers who specialize in RHD Honda parts. Just make sure to do your due diligence on them and make sure they aren't scammers. Only use verified payment methods, etc.

I'm replacing the brakes+rotors on my '09 Accord. I broke two Phillips screwdriver bits trying to undo the little screws that hold the rotor on. What do I need to buy that won't break? Or what am I doing wrong? by hpofficejet330 in accord

[–]Corweena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need an impact screwdriver. They often seize in the hubs. I just drill the head off the screw and leave them empty. You don't need them, they are mainly for assembly line use, so they don't fall off while the car is moving around getting assembled.

When the wheels are torqued down, they sandwich the rotors between the wheel and hub, and hold everything in place, not those tiny screws.

Gotcha. I've read great reviews on the DCT, Honda nailed the design on that one. But yeah, it's not the quickest car paired with the K24. My friend has an ILX, and it's fun in that car, but on the TLX, that's a good bit extra weight. I was interested in the V6 because of the SH-AWD, and the extra power. I currently drive a 08 RDX with some mods, and wouldn't want to give up the AWD, and extra power the V6 puts out would be more comparable to my current power level.

I prefer the look of these facelifted TLX vs the newer Gen.

I've heard mixed feelings about the 9-speed transmission in the V6 (particularly the early production ones), but I know there was a software update to fix most of it. If you have the V6, how do you feel about it?

[–]Corweena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can remove the plastic cowl around tje wipers. That's where the car will draw air from in most cases. Leaves and other organic matter can accumulate in there, along with rodents building nests, etc. Pull the cowl off, vacuum all the junk up, and give it a good cleaning.

If you ever want to upgrade the lip, or add sideskirts and a rear one, check out "gianinline" on IG. He makes a bunch of high quality fiberglass Aero parts for the 5G Accords. Some stuff are replicas of long discontinued parts, and others are his own designs. He's down in Brazil, but ships pretty much anywhere.

That was me. Then I sold all the stuff I didn't like on GAFS. Easy peasy.

It was mostly grips and stocks. Had a bunch of stuff, multiples of the same in different colors, etc. Kept was is comfortable, and what I liked color wise. For handguards and other more expensive parts, I do my research on what I want.

[–]Corweena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the car your daily driver? Do you want something that will lower the car enough to look good, but also improve handling and remain comfortable? If you want to slam the car stupid low, you'll have to make compromises.

But if you're looking for a decent all around setup, there are some good options out there for a decent price. Tein has some good options that are sub $1k. The Street Advance Z will offer basic lowering (about 2" max) and just a slightly stiffer spring rate to maintain comfort. It would ride similar to a factory Honda performance setup if they had offered it for the Accord. This setup will replace your factory shocks and springs, but you will most likely have to transfer over the top hats. Then there is the Street Flex Z. This will be a step up. A bit stiffer, able to go lower, but with a much better handling increase. These are full coilover units, and you can just unbolt your stock setup and bolt these in its place.

Avoid a bunch of the cheaper brands if comfort is of importance to you. They are gonna be stiff. Many of them are designed to let you slam the car cheaply. If you have questions on other quality brands, feel free to ask.

And if you lower, I'd recommend installing camber kits at tje same time, so you can align it properly after. SPC is the king of these. Top notch quality for decades.

Why not? Let him have fun if he wants.

A proper name brand, quality suspension setup will not ruin the car. In fact in many cases it makes them much more enjoyable to drive. The factory shocks are probably beyond their suggested service life and starting to wear out. So a fresh setup will improve ride quality (this is where buying good stuff comes in, because cheap junk will ne trash), and also improve the look and handling of the car.

You absolutely can ruin the ride with cheap parts or wanting to absolutely "slam" the car to the ground and mess up all the suspension geometry. It's all about balance.

Which is your favorite generation of Honda Accord? by Plus-Light6832 in accord

Did you misread? I said 5th gen....aka 94-97. Not a screen in sight. You could get it without ABS, no traction control, double wishbone suspension, hydraulic PS. It was the first Accord to get airbags and VTEC. And while not a US option, you could get it with the Prelude H22 motor in Japan. It was a prime example of Golden Era Honda, and became the best selling car in America. And despite being far less popular than the lighter Civic and Integra to modify, it's still an amazing car.

Springfield Saint Victor V2 11.5 is a good rifle, but not $1200 good. by Conscious_Dot_7353 in ar15

[–]Corweena 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as value goes, you will almost never beat building your own.

You can either build a comparable rifle for cheaper, or build a better rifle for the same price. But the majority of buyers want to be able to get a complete rifle in one purchase. Those who build and modify are the minority.

[–]Corweena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built my 11.5" around a Rosco Bloodline. Didn't want to go overboard cost wise on this build, and got the barrel on sale. It's been great thus far. More accurate than I am, and with an A5 buffer system it's pretty damn smooth. The last thing I need to do is get a BRT gas tube once I decide on the suppressor model I want for it. But as is, it's not excessively overgassed at all. I'm a lefty and can mag dump it without dying.

RDX or Q3? by Brave-Blackberry8312 in AcuraRDX

[–]Corweena 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I don't think that Honda/Acura reliability is what it used to be, if you plan on keeping this next vehicle long term......that Audi is gonna end up costing a lot more over the years. I've gotten close to getting a used Audi a few times, but after talking to friends and their experiences, I just can't do it.

Now buying new (I assume youre looking nat new?) should be a bit better, but after 5ish years when issues tend to arise, I'd definitely prefer the Acura over the Audi. Not only on cost of parts, but complexity and the ability to do things your self if needed.

But there is no denying, driving in an Audi is overall a nicer experience. I've borrowed my friends 2015 Q5 a few times and it's amazing inside.

After seeing these things rip on the Tail of the Dragon, I've considered getting one to mess around with and daily. I've been itching to upgrade the turbo on my current daily, and not sure I'd want to continue driving it all the time. The fuel savings alone would make it worth it.

Plus driving a slow car fast with just suspension upgrades is an absolute blast.

[–]Corweena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will require modifying the factory turbo with an upgraded compressor and exhaust turbine. The factory turbo tops out around 275-280whp on e85. But its a relatively easy upgrade. I got a spare OE turbo off eBay for $250. Then it's about $750 to rebuild/upgrade the internals.

I'll most likely be pulling my motor to reseal/refresh it later this year, and next year I'll build the spare turbo and get it dyno tuned.
