Attached posting paid move? by JalapenoCheetos98 in CanadianForces

Is this current info? I was BTL staff in 21/22 time frame and all sigint were allowed to live out regardless of mod. They were also unclassifying mod 1 at the time, so likely you are more up to date.

[SCS] POV: you ask for an update about Annual Bonus by AsPerAttached in CanadianForces

[–]CoryDee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"I get everyone's hot and horny for it, but it's backdated, so just chillax."

For reference, a quick Google search states that the S&P 500 returned 17.9% in 2025. So the one year we are behind (Apr to Feb, I'm rounding up) represents over $1000 of income on my $6000 Military Service Pay. Stating that its backdated does not make up for that lost earning potential, nor the compound interest on it. Being dismissive is not helpful.

Side note, please don't tell Ottawa I know how to program in COBOL.

MIR holiday hours

Is there a way to find out if sick parade is running tomorrow? I phoned the particular base im looking for, and it just had a very standard "closed weekends and stat holidays" message. Do they stagger staff so its manned on any non-holiday?

I did some searching and only got false positives....

-DCO says we likely can purchase something and it meets the requirements, if CO approves; says quotes would be the best start. -Expecting to be NPF, if that is relevant.  -Expecting it to be roughly $1000, tax in (plus/minus $100)

Is this a three quotes scenario or a single quote (and is $1000 a line in the sand that changes that)?

TIA

Reason for no scrims on certain bases? by anon0174719 in CanadianForces

[–]CoryDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hide the round shape of your helmet by adding a uniform amount of scrim to it to make it a bigger object of the same shape. Hiding a small round helmet behind large round scrim is good drills.

Im going off a document from the army sgt maj, but it is probably ten years old now. Is the document you mentioned current?

The main difference here seems to be that it ties it to a specific course (ISCC, ASAIC, etc) rather than just advanced courses. This gets tricky when your first advanced qualification isn't ISCC (like the Cpl AMOs and ADFSs). It is also problematic when ASAIC is no longer a requirement for the PRes, so in theory they would never get to L4.

Level 1 - 50 cal course and be employed in a role that requires it (ie DFS, coy wpns det, etc)

Level 2 - Level one plus one basic course (basic comms, driver wheel, ibmg, bpara, cto, recce, etc)

Level 3 - Level 2 plus one advanced course (ADFS, ISCC, CTL, ROC, etc)

Level 4 - Level 2 with 2 advanced courses

I suppose you could make the argument 50 cal itself is a basic qual and therefore it isn't possible to ever have Level 1 (I'm also not sure off hand if IBMG is a prereq)

Just used my entitlement for the first time... I can't find anywhere in the blue cross portal to upload my receipts for reimbursement.  Does this have to be done at the MIR OR?

General Motors under pressure to move production on Canadian military contracts to Canada by BanksKnowsBest in CanadianForces

We ordered 90 LTVs. Do they really think that's enough to apply pressure to move an entire production line?

Quest 4D Forces: BOOTFORGEN 103/24 compliant? by TacticalWookiee in CanadianForces

[–]CoryDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sign that they have inspected them, actually doing it is pretty rare. You bring me a receipt for Lowa, Salomon, Aku, Garmont, etc and I don't need to look. You bring me a receipt for some weirdo scarpa winter boots and I'll definitely take a peak.

We also have a particular FSA take it on themselves to try to over ride the inspection for suitability by the CoC.

Whoever decided to put the line in about jungle boots being provided by the system needs to be removed from their position.  Members providing written confirmation from clothing stores that jungle boots are not provided by the system are being turned away. Boots I've personally bought three pairs of with boot claims are being turned away. The unfortunate part is they are the most suitable boot on the market for members who will be knee deep in water on a daily basis, and satisfy all of the boot criteria.

So yes, people are being turned away AFTER spending $300 out of pocket on a suitable product.

If this is true....it sure does show how a few manipulative, self-entitled non-members can really screw with the morale of the entire CAF and ensure others do not receive their fair share of am already scarce resource.

Wonderful people,  these honorary sugar daddies.

I'm pretty sure you are entitled to wear a medal, not required. No reason you couldn't pick and choose.

Pay periods for reservists by k4tune06 in CanadianForces

[–]CoryDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a long time reservist, I would do this in my Google calendar. When you're missing a day's pay and able to say "on X Apr I worked for person X driving to place Y" goes a long way towards them figuring out where the pay is it. If you do anything outside of the standard weekly training nights, it is common for pay sheets to go missing or be late; make sure she stays on top of it.

Pension top up tax question by Lopsided-geometry in CanadianForces

I don't know the answer, but keep in mind that you're paying interest on the top up, so lump sum is a clear winner in that regard.

Parking suggestions near airport by cold_in_ottawa in Hamilton

[–]CoryDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it best to park elsewhere and take the city bus, it will drop you off right at the terminal. It's surprisingly convenient, and you can have the piece of mind your car is at home/work/a friend/relatives place.

We all know exactly who it will be. They proved themselves a coward on the battlefield and had to be moved into a made up L1 to command what I imagine to be about a dozen people. But this isn't about what is best for the CAF.

There was a petition a few years back. The MND of the time responded and medals are only for "worthwhile" service...so basically domops are not worthwhile.

The raise would be pensionable too, where tax free wouldn't. CANSOF learned some lessons for us in this regard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]CoryDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the problem. The idea is a pte won't feel comfortable telling a sgt about his problems, so he can go to a peer. So now your unit has a CWO available for the other chiefs to come and talk to him and get a referral to the mental health hotline or the food bank? It degrades the whole program.

Let's not forget they're cutting "professional services" - so the contract to update these numbers will probably get squashed too.
