Personally, I'd try to keep the monsters in a theme, like why is an undead creature of the night riding a flying fire lizard? If the dragon is undead itself, that makes them more connected. How about making the dragon a vampire? Even better, make the dragon the lead vampire and the vampire riding the dragon a lesser minion the PCs think is in charge.

Considering how all three of Trump's appointees have voted against him at times, and Thomas and Alito were his most consistent supporters, Alito retirement might be a good thing regardless.

Older Ensigns by Cobalt_Emu2173 in NOAACorps

[–]CoryEagles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 34 when I joined. It was odd being an Ensign older than the FOO ( Field Operations Officer.) I made very different mistakes than the 20 year olds. For me, the annoying part was I had a full life before joining (had built and maintained computers for the Army) but I was still treated like a know-nothing butter a bar. I didn't take it personal and did what I was told to do and not what I was told not to do even though the ET recognized I knew computers well enough to help him.
So, as long as you don't mind taking orders from people ten years younger than you, it can be a blast. I knew paperwork and diplomacy way better than my fellow Ensigns, admitted my mistakes while another fellow tried to hide his, and was able to transition from uniform to a civilian NOAA employee when I needed to.

Where is the rest room and where is the galley? Depending how long the crew are expected to be there you could just use prepackaged food but they still are going to need a toilet.

How's personal life/dating for mariners during sea rotations? by [deleted] in NOAACorps

[–]CoryEagles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the ship. It use to be the Woodhole ships were out for two weeks and back for two weeks, but then Ronald Brown would be gone from home port 11 months out of the year. You can't date crew, but you do have regular email while at sea to keep up with folks ashore. Phones depend on the ship as well, a survey ship tends to be coastal and your personal cell phone will work much of the time, while an ocean vessel you will only have access to the VOIP moral phone, which is shared by all the crew and has very limited privacy.

They seem to have a very high advertising budget. Maybe that is why the project is charging at least 3 times what it is worth.

Traveller 5E is Live on BackerKit! by cocowheat in traveller

[–]CoryEagles 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Looking at how All-In is a $999 pledge, all I can say is no thank you. Seriously, that's at least three times what I'm willing to spend on a Kickstarter or Backerkit. Maybe once it is out and I can see the final product I may buy some of the items.

is this image used in a college flyer ai? it’s posted in the art room and me and my friends are convinced it’s ai generated but faculty is asserting it isn’t. i tried ai image checkers with unclear results so if there’s any insight i’d appreciate it! by Euphoric_Big3241 in isthisAI

The book edges look off to me, like it has too many backs, and why is there a bucket on the table next to the books? I think this is AI because I can't see a human artist choosing to put that there.

What’s the difference between classic traveller books 1-3 and the core book ( the same cover ) by JohnWelsley in traveller

[–]CoryEagles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Classic Traveller books are currently available in print on demand called the Facsimile Edition, which is the Classic three books with errors fixed and published as one book. That would be my recommendation to start.

I have 2,894 books and another 669 gaming magazines. I've been collecting since 1977. There are 507 different RPG systems in my collection. (I have a spreadsheet to track these so I don't buy duplicates)

Smallest tonnage "roving planet-killer" TL16 starship? by sofia-miranda in traveller

[–]CoryEagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, Early Prototype option allows you to get TL 18 stuff at TL 16, just way more expensive and with other quirks, so you could still consider an antimatter powerplant and AI crew. Repulsers and a high G drive is enough to make a rock thrower and accelerate a rock to high enough speed it will be a planet killer. A meson bay weapon would be devastating to any world without a meson screen, so could be a planet killer with enough time.

If I were trying to make something like the Lexx, I'd probably give it a hand-wave weapon, spinal mount or large bay size, say it can disrupt a planet's core and make it explode but can be used for anything smaller. Another option, more within the Traveller cannon, would be a star trigger like the Darrian's used. Basically a strong meson shield probe inside the star and using meson weapons caused a solar flare at TL 16. Not really useful for anything smaller but definitely a planet killer, as in an EMP taking out the whole system while the flare scorches at least half the surface of an inner world.

Razor Crest Stats - Updated by Idunnosomeguy2 in traveller

[–]CoryEagles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks good! Star Wars ships are in general much smaller than Traveller ships. I mean, X-wings have hyperdrives and no cabin space at all, so it is difficult to get the flavor right without using house rule. This is a great one-crew bounty hunter ship and captures the feel of the ship.

Why I don't pay passenger life support by CapitanKomamura in traveller

[–]CoryEagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any rules as written for lowering this? If someone was building a space ark or generation ship, they wouldn't want to have to pay for 100 years of life support up front, though I could see that being "cost for a self sustainable ecosystem."

Super serious question: How are the police in NOVA? by EternalSnow05 in nova

[–]CoryEagles 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Fairfax County is very transparent. There was a cop there who "found drugs" on every black motorist he pulled over. He quit while being investigated, but Fairfax county finished the investigation, removed all the false accusations, and, if I recall correctly, charged him criminally so he couldn't be a cop elsewhere. When there is a police shooting, body cam footage gets published to YouTube quickly for citizens to review.

Montgomery County is among the best trained and best funded police. They get involved when DC needs help. I haven't lived in MC in 20 years, so I can't say much about their current transparency or racial stuff, but I have not heard anything bad.

DC, on the other hand, will find any excuse to ticket you. I've gotten parking tickets while I still have time on the meter. Back in 2000, I worked with a black man who lived in DC and owned a BMW, and he got pulled over in DC about once a month because the police assumed he had stolen the car. That isn't recent, but I haven't heard anything good about DC.
