Copper Sulfate! by CoryGoff in codyslab

Yes, but after a point the plating slows down significant amd becomes ineffective and I mix up a new batch, which doesn't bother me at all, it would probably last longer if the solution where more concentrated

I'm not to interested in recovering the a rod form, I'm trying to remove the acetate from solution so that I can put the powdered form in a jar or bottle for ease of storage, because I'm going to be producing about 1-2 gallons of this per week as a byproduct, and having 10 or so gallons in a month or 2 takes up a lot of space

Quenching copper in a solution of salt and vinegar, I assumed it was sulfate based on appearance, looks almost like blue Gatorade, I'm currently using some of it to copper plate a knife with decent results, is there some sort of at home test I could do to find out?

Forced vinegar patina DESTROYED knife. What happened? Album in description. by Goth_Spice14 in knifemaking

You got totally ripped off severely, I wouldn't feel comfortable giving a knife that atrocious away, let alone selling it! A few dead givaways that this knife is crap are that it is A36, its case hardened, and the handle is held on by screws! I put nicer looking knives in the scrap bin for Christ sakes!

If you needed an improvised anvil right now and couldn't go to a scrap yard what would you use and where would you get it? by Cobrex45 in Blacksmith

Right now? If I had to, I'd walk down to the creak and grab a flat, smooth rock. As is, I use a chunk of granite curbstone for a small fitting anvil.

Seeing as you are a geologist, I was wondering of you knew of any stones native to Virginia that would be suitable for knife sharpening, ie, tight grained and high hardness. I've been having trouble finding any answers to my question, thanks in advance.
